Getting a car had been much easier than compared to what he was going to try and pull off today. If it worked then they would have a home to call their own. At least for a few months before someone figured that one out.
The idea made him smile though. That the two of them would have a home. Together. Like they were more than just a couple of dumb kids taking on more than they had any rights to think they could. Yeah, they were still dumb kids, him probably more so than her, but they had a dream and a need and he had a plan. Or at least part of a plan. Okay so maybe it was closer to a quarter of one but by the time they got there he should have a solid 50% of a plan. And then a house.
He'd done his best to pick out a suit and tie that would help add to the illusion of young professional with his blushing bride; his hair slicked back to aid in his lie and his shoes shined to a near mirror like reflection could be seen but Jason new it was going to be the little details that really sold this show to anyone and Shion had come up with the brilliant notion of claiming to be newly weds. She'd even produced a pair of gold bands for them to use.
Naturally he'd been surprised at first by the idea, then by the fact that she'd happened to have a pair of wedding bands but given what she was running from, it didn't seem that far fetched. Once that had all passed, naturally he'd teased her about just wanting to marrying him for his good looks and if that made her the husband since she'd asked him first.
The look on her face had been priceless but she'd quickly caught on to his joking and took it all in good stride before she'd joined in on making light of the situation. Now though, he was alone in the bath room with a feeling like a rabbit looking down into the mouth of a wolf as he struggled to make his tie set like it was suppose to and failing as his hands trembled nervously. If he was going to sell this lie, he had to believe it himself. That was how you succeeded in this game, against these kinds of odds and people.
You believed with all your heart and mind that your lie was the truth; that it was as real as the sun and solid as the earth under your feet. Oh! And you kept them small.
This was a small lie. It was nothing. Really. They were freshly married and moved to the island. He was 24 and worked in a large bank on the mainland, and she was 22 and taking a little time off of school so they could settle into their new life together. This was the core of their lie; this is what he had to believe if he was going to stand face to face with any other supernature and sell them this story...
So why was he so damn nervous and excited at the same time about this one? His heart kept skipping a beat every time he thought about being married to Shion and his pulse would race as he recognized it was in joy at the idea, which just terrified him as they were still kids; they'd only just met a handful of days ago. Being married should be the farthing thing from his mind and now here it was staring right back at him in the mirror and it made him laugh nervously.
Oh no.
"I..I can't.." Jason started to call out of the bathroom to her only to have his words cut off as his hands dropped from his tie to grip the edge of the counter as he chuckled nervously for a few moments then took a breath to try and explain to her once more, "My tie..I can't.."
God, he was getting edgier by the second as another fit broke free from him and his eyes glowed yellow before he squeezed them shut tightly as he tried to calm his nerves and pounding heart while he took in another deep breath.
