There were few things in Chessa's life that she loved more than shifting into a large cat form and running around, maybe even hunting a little. In her cougar form, she was able to run fast and move quietly through the trees and grass. It was growing colder on the island, but when she was in her cougar form the cold didn't both her as much as when she was in human form. Ever since that week of not being able to shift, any time she hadn't been needed she was in cat form. She hadn't realized how much she loved shifting until it had been taken away from her.
Moving slowly through the trees, Chessa kept her eyes trained below her for any animal worthy of the hunt. She was just starting to think of calling it a day and heading back into the house when a noise caught her attention. A young buck had just wandered into her line of sight and a smile tugged at her cougar lips. Shifting almost silently on the thick branch she was perched on, Chessa took in the rest of their location. When she was confident that nothing else would get in the way of a chase and fight, she leaped after her prey.
The buck took off quickly, but Chessa was far faster. Knowing it would be easier to take down if it was tired, she gave it a good chase, slowly guiding it closer to the house. Venison would be on the menu tonight for herself and Terra if all went according to plan. When she was about two hundred yards away from the house, she made her move. Leaping onto the buck's back, she wrapped her mouth and teeth around his neck and dropped her back paws to the ground to snap it. It wasn't as clean a death as she had hoped, having gotten speared in her front leg by his antlers, but his neck was broken and he laid lifeless beneath her.
Dragging the buck's body close to the house and kitchen took longer than it should have since her front leg was injured, but it was faster than had she shifted back into human form. Chessa left the buck at the back door and quickly shifted back into human form. It hurt, because of the injury, but she'd live. As she entered the kitchen, she grabbed a towel and pressed and held it hard to her wound. With blood now very slowly trickling down her arm and her mouth and neck covered in the animal's blood, she followed the sound of metal clanging. Hopefully her master would heal the wound on her arm. If not, she'd need to find Terra to help her take care of it.
Walking down the corridor to Thanatos' practice room, she stopped at the entrance and stood waiting for his acknowledgement. Chessa was sure he could smell the buck's blood as well as her own all over her. A smile pulled at her lips as she watched him move graciously through fighting positions and movements. His body in motion was a thing of wonder to her. "Master..."
