The path through the trees had taken the horses into deeper snow, the shadows from the woods blocking any small rays from the sun that might melt some of the worst of it. Hunter had barely noticed, as distracted as he was with thoughts of his sister and the life they had made. He smiled at the clear joy on her face.
"As I love you all the more for making a home for us," he replied.
"I always was rubbish at being domestic. It was the one thing father didn't seem to mind."
