Klaus would not openly mock Bastien for his affection. No, he indulged similar thoughts when reflecting upon Caroline and how much control a former mortal and now new vampire had over him. It bothered him, and yet he found that he would not have it any other way. While he refused to openly admit this to his son, he would not be cruel.
"Are you certain she simply isn't in a mood, Bastien?" Klaus asked, trying to seem as casual as possible in hopes that it would lighten the dour mood. "Mortals... They all get in moods from time to time and absolutely insist on being left alone." He rolled his eyes, not seeing the hypocrisy in his own statement considering the catastrophic "moods" he'd been known to embrace from time to time over the years. "It could have nothing to do with what you have or haven't done."
