POST 1 OF 2 (sorry for the tl;dr)
If Sayuri expected horror from Kenshin for what she had done, there would be none to be found in his eyes. There would only be sadness and a flash of anger at her husband's cruelty. The Battousai within him swelled, and he sneered, wishing the vision were reality so that he might separate the wolf's head from his body in that moment.
But the Rurouni stayed, still and deeply saddened by the vision, his heart bleeding for his mistress... But no. It was more than that now, wasn't it? It was love. And it was why he opened himself to her. She would never again suffer so. He swore it, and she would feel it in his memories as they shifted.
Visions danced of Kenshin and Tomoe living together, a simple life in a small cottage with a small farm as their cover. Their marriage had been honest, the ceremony and preparation down to the letter. It was simple, but it was real and quite possibly the best cover they could've had.
They would grow many things. Fruits and vegetables and grains. Anything that would fit their small plot of land. Sayuri would see Kenshin start to smile again, talking with Tomoe and playing at his normal life. Neither of them were particularly talkative, but they didn't need to be.
But things changed. The shadows darkened the scene. Tomoe would write in her journal, pages that upon pages with a sorrowful look in her eyes. Kenshin was oblivious to it he spoke often of his happiness as they were.
"I don't need to fight always," he said once. "I have you. I have a home and land I have learned to work. I believe this is all I could want." A former assassin, ruthless murderer some would say, with a gentle smile on his face when he looked upon his wife. Tomoe's smile was true in return, but Kenshin did not know at the time that it was a sad one. That night they made love under the starlight, and he felt whole at last.
The next day came and he woke. Tomoe was gone, which was strange as he had normally been the earlier riser. Dressing himself, he checked about for his wife, distressed that he could not find her.
