Sayuri had known that this spell would forge a strong bond between the two of them, but she had never expected him to open it so fully. Emotions and sometimes strong thoughts were what she had been expecting. Instead, the true world seemed to fade into darkness as she stood and watched as a small boy that could only be Kenshin worked endlessly to bury those that had died.
Everything, Sayuri-dono. I will let you see everything.
Kenshin's voice. He was showing her his past, what made him the man that he was now. Everything she had wanted to know about the man that she was falling in love with was being handed to her. But this connection went both ways. She needed to let him see all of her as well, even that which she was ashamed of... even the truth of her husband.
Then all of that I have hidden within myself I will show to you as well... </s>
While Kenshin's memories had been a stark black and white with bursts of vibrant colors, Sayuri's seemed to be shades of sepia like old photographs. The estate that first appeared was as large as it was beautiful. Traditional Japanese, it had been in her family for generations, spanning back even further than Kenshin could remember. Cherry blossoms bloomed, floating around in a flurry of beauty. And under the trees sat two small children. One of them was a boy, looking to be about 8, wearing a spring yukata and seated with a large ancient text in his lap. Across from him was a young girl that could only be Sayuri. Black hair pulled back in pigtails and wearing a brightly colored spring yukata, she looked the very image of innocence.
"Onii-chan, come play with me." The happy child giggled as she crouched before her elder brother, tilting her head. The boy though frowned up at her and shook his head before going back to his text book. "Please Sasuke-nii. We can play hide and seek."
"Go away baka, I am trying to study. After all, I am the heir to the family and I am old enough that I should be able to do the first spell in this book. If I cannot, I cannot get the mark of the heir." The little girl blinked in confusion and curiosity. She moved to sit beside her brother and read over his shoulder. While it seemed like the boy's eyes were furrowed with confusion and frustration, Sayuri's seemed to brighten.
"All you need to do is make it work?" She reached to grab his hand. "Come on. I can show you!" She said, feeling the pull of the magic that she had seen. Her brother grumbled, but decided to indulge the girl since he could see their father watching from the distance.
Giggling, the child moved with a graceful but innocent gait as she seemed to step from left to right, her hands moving as she chanted. At first the boy watched and snorted, assuming that she was pretending to be like their father once again, but then something happened. There was the first twinkling light that came to life before him, fluttering into existence like a firefly. Another one appeared after and then another. Sasuke seemed to panic as he saw those.
"No! No Sayuri! Stop! you cant do that before me! you cant!" He cried out, but the girl was lost in the ebb and flow of the power that filled with her. The brother looked up, praying that his father had not seen, but it seemed too late as he walked towards him. In a last desperate attempt to stop it, he pushed his sister hard onto her back. "I hate you!"
"Now now Sasuke, that is now how one treats the heir of the family." Came their father's soft, but stern voice. Both children immediately stood up and looked up at the father. "But poppa I..." "You did not manage to complete the spell before Sayuri did, so that place is no longer your's. Now come daughter, it is time to receive the first signal of our family." Confused by it all, but knowing not to disobey her father, Sayuri took his hand and was led away from the screaming brother that she never saw again.
