Damon's eyes opened to slits. He was warm and comfortable, and curled into the arms of his dark haired lover. When he was asleep, his face was soft, peaceful, the way it should be before life takes over. They had watched over each other for a long time. The five years he spent in Augustine counted, even if they couldn't ever be together like this. He felt that twist of emotion that came and went like a now familiar tide.
He reached up and moved a strand of hair off of Enzo's brow. "Morning, sunshine," he said, voice still a bit gravely from sleep and the cold he had been battling since turning human. Enzo was tasked with the job of taking care of him, even if neither of them had any idea of how to do that. They were vampires. They didn't visit doctors or take medications. Damon hadn't had a check up since the Augustines were cutting him open, and that really wasn't a check up. Human frailty wasn't something that Damon missed. He had missed some of the feelings though.
One thing Damon definitely missed was food. All the flavors of different foods were amazing, and often lost on a vampire palate. His stomach woke right up when he did, growling for attention. Coffee and breakfast were definitely going to happen - in a little while. He still needed to wake up the other sleeping vampire turned human, and that was a different hunger altogether.
