After she was done coughing and had laid back, Arik tugged at her so she would use him as a pillow and he could pet her hair further. Sometimes the best medicine was just touching someone in a caring manner. His smile faltered at her question, but her eyes had closed to protect the sorrow he felt thinking back to his human years. "The vampire life and family takes over all those memories..."
He sighed, trying to laugh at the idea. "I do miss it, because I miss my family. My little brother was a force to be reckoned with. My parents were strong and ahead of their time. I miss the innocent moments..." Though they had been few and far between.
He leaned down close to her ear. "Want to know a secret? Even when I was human, I wasn't human... we were stronger, faster. I had the misfortune of being fated for a life that death would always surround me. So I choose to become a doctor and when the war happened I stuck by my choice."
