Max sighed as he pushed open the door to the all-night market across the street from the hotel he and Jude were staying in. This wasn't what he'd planned, this sudden exodus to New York. But it had happened, and he was making the best of it. Besides, at least they were staying in a decent hotel, and not some hole in the wall. Jude had been so exhausted when they'd stopped, it was the least Max could do to let him get some sleep in a quiet place for the rest of the night.
His announcement that he was going to drop out of college definitely hadn't been met with enthusiasm, he thought, wincing at the memory. No, his family hadn't gone ballistic, but they hadn't taken it in stride, either. But at least they hadn't blamed Jude -- which Max had been halfway afraid they were going to do. He'd made the spur-of-the-moment decision to get them out of there that night, without a backward glance.
Jude had gone along with him, of course, just like Max had known he would. His boyfriend had seemed nervous, anxious to get away from his home and his parents, and Max didn't blame him. Lucy had seemed to attach herself to Jude, like a puppy cavorting around after its master, and Max had barely been able to restrain himself from slapping her and telling to her to keep her hands to herself, that Jude was already taken.
But he'd managed not to do it, and hopefully, not to give away too many clues about the nature of their relationship. It had given him a profound sense of relief to start the car and pull out of the driveway of his parents' home, and he hadn't looked back when he'd driven away. All he'd been able to think about was that he was headed to New York, to a life of freedom -- a life that he fully intended to share with Jude, in every way possible.
His footsteps picked up rhythm, moving faster as he approached the door of their hotel room. There was a fireplace inside, and he wondered if Jude had started a fire, or if he'd been so tired that he'd fallen into bed without undressing. If that was the case, he'd just have to undress his beautiful boyfriend himself, he thought, smiling at the idea.
When Max unlocked the door and entered the hotel room, his eyes widened, and he almost dropped the small bag of things he'd picked up at the convenience mart. This was definitely not what he'd expected, he thought dazedly, his eyes drinking in the sight in front of him, but it was a more than pleasant surprise.
Jude had taken the pillows from the bed, along with the covers, and moved them to the rug in front of the fireplace to make a comfortable little nest for the two of them to settle down in. He was laying on his side, looking over at the door -- wearing a smile and nothing else. Max's heart leaped at the sight, his eyes drinking in the sight of Jude's nudity.
Before he could say anything, or even let the bag fall from his hand to the floor, Jude held out his arms without saying a word. Max's heart swelled, and he could feel tears welling up in his eyes. What had he done to deserve this kind of happiness? Who had looked down on him and said, "Max Carrigan deserves a pefect angel in his life; let's give him one"?
Well, whoever had done it, Max would spend time thanking them later. For now, he was going to indulge himself in making love to his gorgeous boyfriend and forget that the rest of the world existed for a while. Setting the bag down on the small table by the door, he began to pull off his shirt, never taking his eyes from Jude. He wanted to fix this moment on his memory, to burn the image of Jude laying there into his mind's eye forever.
It only took Max a few seconds to divest himself of his clothes before he joined Jude on the blankets, wrapping strong, muscular arms around his boyfriend and pulling him close. He wanted to mold every inch of Jude's lean body against his own, wanted to feel every movement of that beautiful body pressed so tightly against his. He wanted to lose himself inside of Jude and never come up for air.
The thought flashed through his mind that they didn't have a condom -- but it went out of his mind just as quickly when Jude's hips bucked up against his, and his boyfriend's arms tightened around his neck. After all, it wasn't as if they'd used a condom every time they'd made love -- even though he preferred to, there were some times when there hadn't been one readily available, and his desire for Jude had burned too hot and strong to let him wait until he could find one.
This was one of those times. Max almost wanted to roll Jude over onto his stomach and take him from behind, but he decided against it when his eyes locked with those fathomless dark brown ones staring up at him. The warm firelight flickered over Jude's features, turning his eyes into deep wells, his pale skin to a golden hue. To Max, he'd never looked more beautiful -- or more desirable.
Max used one hand to gently push Jude's thighs apart, smiling as his boyfriend spread his legs and moaned out his name. He loved how Jude was always so responsive, how the British boy always seemed to want Max just as much as Max wanted him. He'd never experienced that with another lover; all the others he'd been with had just been experiments, faceless entities whose names he couldn't remember. But that had been before Jude.
Max balanced himself on one elbow, looking around for the small tube of lube he always kept with him. The last thing he wanted to do was take Jude dry; he was small and tight to start with, and they'd already, to Max's chagrin, discovered that it hurt Jude too much for them to try sex without lube. He'd felt so horribly guilty about hurting Jude that his heart had squeezed inside his chest every time he saw his boyfriend wince over the two days that it had taken him to recover from that disaster. He wasn't going to put Jude through that again.
Ah, there it was. Max could just see the top of the tube poking out of his overnight bag; he reached for it with one hand, sighing in relief as his fingers closed over the tube. It only took him a few seconds to coat two fingers with the lubricant, then slowly push first one and then both fingers into Jude's body, closing his eyes when he heard Jude's soft intake of breath, then his moan of pleasure.
He wanted to take his time, he really did. But, as usual, his desire for Jude ran too hot and too high to allow him to spend much time in foreplay. One day, he swore to himself, he would make it up to Jude by keeping him in bed all day and making love to him until they were both too exhausted to move. But now .... now he just wanted his boyfriend, any way that he could get him. He felt almost dizzy with desire, and he wasn't sure just how long he could last when he was finally inside Jude.
Sliding into the British boy was like falling into a pool of molten lava -- he was surrounded by the tightest, white-hot pleasure he'd ever felt in his entire life. He wouldn't have expected Jude to be like this every time they made love, but he was; it thrilled Max to the very fibre of his being to feel that somehow, Jude had saved something of himself for him, held back some intrinsic part of his being until he had met Max.
Jude's nails dug into his back, his moans becoming louder as his hips bucked up to meet Max's thrusts. Max caught his breath, squeezing his eyes closed. He wanted to make this last, but he knew that he was physically incapable of waiting more than another few seconds before he let himself go. He'd wanted to last longer, make this as good for Jude as he could -- he just hoped that his boyfriend wasn't disappointed by the quickness of their coupling.
He shouldn't have worried; Jude cried out his name one last time before he came, his slender body shaking in Max's arms. Max let out a groan as he let himself go, releasing inside Jude and going limp on top of him, cradling his lover in his arms and smoothing the damp strands of dark hair back from his forehead. Gradually, he felt his heart stop racing, settling down into a steady rhythm, his own heartbeat blending with Jude's.
Max eased himself out of Jude, turning onto his side and wrapping his arms around his boyfriend. "Sorry that was so quick, baby," he apologised, fleeting guilt sweeping over him. A soft sigh left his lips as he stroked a hand through Jude's hair. "I just couldn't wait. I .... I had to have you when I saw you laying there like that."
Jude smiled against Max's chest, shaking his head and snuggling closer into his boyfriend's embrace. "And you thought I could wait?" he murmured, reaching for the covers and pulling the sheet over their nude bodies. "It was great, babe. You don't have to apologise for anything." His voice was soft and sincere, his breath warm against Max's skin.
After a few moments of silence, Max smiled again and gestured towards the fading flames in the grate. "I wanted to make love to you in front of a fireplace since the first time I laid eyes on you," he said softly. "There's just something about seeing the firelight on your skin ...." His voice trailed off, his eyes closing as a wave of tiredness washed over him.
Jude raised his head slightly and looked up at him, a smile curving his passion-swollen lips. "So can we look at this as our second big date?" he teased, lowering his head again and pressing his lips against one small nipple. He stretched out beside Max, closing his eyes and getting himself comfortable. "I think we should sleep on the floor, because I feel too tired to stand up and get into bed."
"That sounds good to me, babe," Max murmured, his eyelids heavy, feeling himself starting to drift off. "I don't mind sleeping on the floor -- as long as you're beside me." He watched as the last flames got lower, then went out, gradually throwing the room into darkness, the streetlights outside barely illuminating the walls around them. Finally, his eyes slipped shut, and his slow, even breathing matched itself to Jude's.
Within a few moments, both boys were asleep, their bodies snuggled close under the blankets, arms wrapped around each other. In the morning, they would continue on their way to New York -- but tonight, they were lost in their dreams, the dreams of the exciting life they would build together once they finally reached their destination.
