As much as she didn't want to stop holding her baby brother, Hailey knew she needed a minute to recompose herself, to settling the swirling thoughts in her mind away from her dad's too-observant gaze. She handed the little bundle over carefully, taking another brief moment to brush knuckles gently over his cheek before she got up to head to the loo.
She heard Kenzie's words before she left the room, and she glared at her sister. "Hah, you wish! Hailey's way easier to say than Kenzie! It's totally going to be my name first," she said decisively. And before Kenzie had a chance to respond, she slipped down the hallway and into the loo.
