Hugo received Sofia's texts in the middle of a steamy sexting session with Scarlett, but stopped to read them. Should he write back? He'd avoided her on purpose at the book club meeting, doing everything he could to keep himself occupied with the other attendees. Seeing Sofia's name pop up at the top of his phone made his heart race in a different way than it had been thanks to Scar's naughty words. Finally, taking a deep breath, he made a decision.

Yeah it was a bigger crowd from last time, from what I hear.

I was mostly networking for donations to the gala.

I hardly have any conversations that isn't that, these days.

Sofía had convinced herself that she wasn't going to get a reply, so when her phone chimed with the tone she'd set just for him she nearly dropped the quill that she'd been writing with, purple ink streaking across the parchment. She picked up her phone, apprehensive about what she might read. His last message appeared just as she started typing, making her smile.

You must be counting down the days until it's over
I've already bought tickets
Maybe next time we'll get a chance to talk

Hugo couldn't believe she'd bought tickets. Hell. She'd be there, on his arm and dressed to the nines and the thought was almost too much to bare. How beautiful she'd be. How closely Pucey would be hovering all fucking night. How the hell was he supposed to work under those conditions? Maybe he could bring a date. He'd have to ask Pansy. Maybe Scar wouldn't mind...
