Iris really was relieved that Nate had said he wanted to meet her about something good, assuming that it was some sort of team meeting. He was one of the few people that she bothered to hit shift for when typing, along with her parents and grandparents. Hopefully it might be news about someone filling Eve's stylish shoes while she was travelling the world.

She knocked on the door to Nate's office about fifteen minutes before she was due to start her hostess shift. It didn't seem like anyone else had been asked to come in early, which was a little... odd. What did Nate want to discuss?

Nate's office was tucked away in the maze of back storage and employee rooms behind the bar, and it was wear he'd been most of the day, catching up on much of the administrative tasks that Eve usually handled for him. It made him miss her more than he already had, but he didn't begrudge her the extended holiday. When the knock sounded on the door, a lazy flick of his wand opened it, and he stood as he smiled across at Iris.

"Thank you for coming in. Close that, please, if you don't mind," he said with a nod toward the door. Then he motioned for her to sit in the chair across the desk from him. If it were a more casual conversation, he might have gone around and sat in the chair next to her, but this was business, so he stayed on his side of the desk for the moment. "I'm sure you're wondering what this is about, so I'll get right to it. You've stepped up a lot in Eve's absence, and it's not gone unnoticed. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and I'd like to offer you a raise," he told her frankly, pausing to allow her to soak it in.

He'd always compensated his staff competitively, but who didn't like a raise? Or to have their hard work acknowledged?

Eve had been something of a mentor to Iris since she'd started work at the club, so it had been easy enough for Iris to pick things up where needed. But to be offered a raise? That sounded a lot more official than what she'd been doing. It was nice to hear praise though, and she smiled, a little embarrassed to have it put so bluntly.

She found, however, that she couldn't say yes immediately. "Are there additional responsibilities that come with it? Obviously I haven't minded covering bits for Eve but we don't know how long she's going to be gone, so..." Probably not the strongest start to any kind of negotiation, but she deeded to know if there were any strings attached.

The hedging had Nate's lips twitching in amusement and, perhaps, a bit of approval. It was likely to seem to be coming out of nowhere, but he was a boss who liked to reward proactivity and hard work, and he truly believed she'd earned it.

"Eve will return by the twentieth of March," he offered first. He knew that Eve hadn't advertised her itinerary, but they'd spoken at length before she'd left, as he'd needed to know what sort of arrangements he would need to make for the club, and she'd promised to be back by the official start of spring. "But no, there are no additional responsibilities beyond what you've already stepped up to handle the past month or so. And that will be a five percent wage increase."

He leaned forward then, resting his forearms on the desk, his lips curving in a bit of smirk. "Now, if you're interested in a more official position as assistant manager, we can discuss the added responsibilities and an additional five percent raise."

It was a relief to know that Eve would be back and hadn't literally sailed off into the sunset. She'd gone quiet on both of her Winstagram accounts, which Iris was sad about but not taking personally. Eve really must have needed an escape. She'd better have some damn good stories to tell when she got back.

She nodded, knowing that a shift in title like that meant that she likely wouldn't be on the stage as much, if at all. "I think that sounds like a great place to start discussing things."

Nodding, Nate went down the list of what responsibilities would be part of the assistant management position. They were a few of the things that Eve usually handled, though not to the same degree, that would make his handling the management of the club much easier until Eve returned. And once Eve was back, he was confident that she would appreciate the help.

"It would involve a small increase in hours, and I'll trust that you'll communicate any issues you have in scheduling. I understand you started as a performer, and I don't want to take away from that if that's still somewhere you'd like your focus to be, at least part of the time, but it seems you have loads of potential beyond the stage, as well." And it didn't feel as though he were stroking her ego. Nate tended to be judicious in the way he pass out compliments.

Nothing that Nate suggested seemed like it would be out of her capabilities, or at least nothing that she couldn't pick up easily. She'd once been on track to go into training as a Healer like her parents and everything at Taboo had significantly lower stakes than that.

"I think that all sounds good. My suggestion would be that I step back from performing until after Eve gets back." That would give her a chance to get to grips with the new responsibilities.

	"I'm sure some members will be disappointed, but they'll get over it. So, ten percent, assistant manager?" he asked with a grin, holding a hand out to her to shake on it. See, that was why he liked Iris so much. She truly was a perfect fit here, and he was quite confident in his decision to promote her. "You're quite welcome," he said simply. And then it was just a matter of going over the paperwork with her, both signing it, before she left to start her shift.

Once she was gone, Nate went back to the financials with a soft groan, feeling another surge of missing Eve.
