RP: Meeting the teacher.
Who: Sofia & Bash
What: Sofia and Bash have coffee and talking about her new training assignment... Maybe.
When: 01/02/28; 9pm
Where: The Pucey's townhouse
Warnings: None
Completion Status: Complete

Bash had just gotten into the townhouse at quarter till nine from the hospital. He called out for his siblings - didn't get a reply - and hopped into his ensuite shower, bedroom and ensuite door both left open because why not?, to quickly rinse off his day's work.

When he heard the floo come to life he hopped out, toweled off, hair still wet, and wrapped a towel around himself before heading downstairs to greet her casually. "Sofia," he said, putting out a hand to shake hers, his other securing the towel around his waist. "Sorry," he added, looking down at himself. Not that he was sorry about his body - he knew he was toned and well built while keeping slim. He worked hard on his body. Not that he showed it off much. He worked too much for one night stands, even! But he knew if anyone did have to see it, it was a pleasing site. "Just got back, you really did not want to see me without a quick shower," he said with a laugh. It was true, though, he'd taken part in a particularly bad potion mis-step this afternoon, and had smelled a lot like durian fruit.

"I'll run upstairs and change real quick, kitchens through there," he nodded his head in the direction, "Make yourself at home," he added as he let go of her hand - he hadn't realized he'd held it the whole time he'd spoken - and turned to go to get dressed.

Oh hell, he thought, she's really beautiful. As he changed into a plain, thin white t-shirt and gym shorts, and padded back downstairs in his barefeet, hair still wet, droplets coming down onto his shoulders, he couldn't believe he'd even had the though. She was his student and that was fucked up. But as he rounded the corner to the kitchen and saw her minding her own business, profile stately and lovely, he knew he might be seriously screwed here.

Sofía didn't know many other people who would willingly drink coffee at 9pm unless they were trying to pull an all-nighter and that alone made her incredibly curious to meet her soon-to-be-tutor.

After making sure that Lily knew where she was going - for some reason telling Hugo didn't feel right - Sofía arrived at the address to meet a hell of a lot more of Bash than she had been anticipating. "Hi." She tried not to squeak as she shook his hand, keeping her eyes firmly on his face. Sofía hadn't been around many half-naked men in her life. When she had, they were usually Quidditch players, ten years older and completely out of bounds.

Had Bash been flirting with her in those DMs? She sort of thought maybe? Was this a move of some sort? Oh god.

"Okay." Hoping desperately that her hand hadn't been sweaty, Sofía made her way to the kitchen, and tried to compose herself. This was her own fault for being too punctual.

Feeling a bit anxious, she checked her phone for something to do as she waited for Bash. Sofía looked up as she heard him approach, automatically locking her phone and putting it back into the hidden pocket of her dress. "Thanks for inviting me over."

She seemed nervous, and Bash internally smacked himself upside his head for running down before changing. "Sorry about that," he apologized again, "was trying to rush," he explained. He gave her a sheepish smile and then added, "And yeah, no problem, I don't know many that appreciate coffee like I do, after all," plus you were so freaking cute on Winsta and kind of flirty and it was actually really hot and I've had a hard time thinking of anything but being stuck with you in my tiny potions lab for hours upon hours since then...

He reached for the coffee in a tall cabinet, his t-shirt riding up a bit, showing a strip of skin above his silky basketball shorts. When he turned back to her with the little can of beans and his automatic grinder, he said, "So you're a cursebreaker," looking her up and down. She was tiny, and her body had soft curves. Not what he thought of when he thought about cursebreakers.

"It's fine." They'd all been to boarding school. Seeing other people in a state of undress was kind of normal. Except there obviously hadn't been anyone in her dorm who looked like that. She was pretty sure that Hugo didn't look like that without his shirt. He'd be softer, she thought, dismay dawning inwardly as her imagination started going down paths it really shouldn't when she was just meeting her new tutor for the first time.

But he was still dripping!

"I am," she agreed, nodding. Sofía hadn't worn her glasses and wished she had them for something to fiddle with. Instead she wore a deep red skater dress in a fine knit fabric that she hoped toed the line between casual and professional. "Or I will be when I'm fully qualified. I've done all the basic training, but I have to do lot more specialist stuff over the next few months." She gestured at him just as his t-shirt slid back into place, extremely grateful for her darker complexion. "Hence potions. With you."

He cocked his head, "You just don't seem like what comes to mind when someone thinks of cursebreaker, is all..." He lingered on that for a moment before asking, "Do you know what other specialties they'll have you working on?"

He made to making their coffees in the fancy new mugs his sister Isla had gotten him for Christmas. He was very much like his father in his addiction to the caffeinated drink. Their mum preferred tea.

"Oh, right. Of course." Sofía nodded in understanding. "You should see my mentor. Tall, broad, really looks the part. But we come in all shapes and sizes." Sometimes she felt like a child next to him, though their working relationship was more administrative these days since Sofía had proved her mettle and skills at a one-year assessment of her skills. That was how the bank had determined the areas that she needed development in this year.

"Herbology and magizoology," Sofía said after a moment, watching as Bash made the coffee. "Basically poisonous and venomous things." Anything that might be used to protect treasures and tombs or any other location.

She paused. "The assignment I got said Sebastian. But do you go by Bash? I wasn't sure what you prefer?"

"Yeah, that's what I think of," he admitted, a little sheepishly. "Not to say I think you're not totally capable," he added, feeling embarrassed and not wanting to insult her, especially as they had to work together going forward.

"Ew," he couldn't help but respond, "Sorry, I just... Never got into the other aspects of potions, like herbology... My father will go clomping through the woods on a moment's notice to find his own ingredients and he's published a bunch of work on new findings and I just... Ew." He shook his head. "How do you take yours?" He asked, suddenly, the coffee almost ready. He was a straight black sort, but he knew most weren't, especially in Britain.

"Oh, um, yeah, mostly I do. By friends, I guess. At work they still call me Sebastian, and my Mum does, and my siblings..." He thought for a moment and realized that as much as he considered himself Bash, most people actually still called him by his legal name. Weird. "You can call me either," he added quickly, wondering if she could be a friend. Then again, she was so pretty, and smart, and a little sassy (which he liked!), and he wondered so very secretly if she could be maybe more.

"Well..." Sofía smiled a little waveringly. "What's that saying? Good things come in small packages?" Being petite had never stopped her from achieving her goals in life. Plus, at this point she was used to people looking at her askance when she told them what she did for a living. This career wasn't the most obvious fit for her, but she was thriving under the challenge.

She looked at the coffee pot. "However you'd recommend?" Sofía suggested. She drank her coffee in all sorts of ways and wasn't wed to having milk or anything like that. "I haven't tried those beans before."

Sofía nodded. "Okay." She wasn't actually sure what she was going to call him yet. Bash seemed like something that should be saved for when they were more familiar and they'd only just met! "You're not so bad at small talk things after all."

Bash's smile grew into a grin, a goofy look that didn't grace his face very often. But he had no doubt she was a good thing, in a small package. "I'm sure," he said quickly, covering his momentary show of joy. "Black it is," he added, when she'd told him she'd drink it any way. "It's not as dark as espresso, but it's definitely a deeper, more flowery flavor than anything we normally get around here. Matter of fact, I wish I had a way to message Bennie to ask for more, but she's all famous and shite now," he said with a laugh.

He poured the coffee and handed her a mug, letting his fingers brush hers as he handed it off. Her skin was so soft.

He gave her a surprised look, "I'm not? I'm pretty sure no one has ever told me that in my life." He'd always been the kid with anger issues, very little more. Then again, she simply hadn't seen that yet - he had no doubt she would during her time in the lab, and honestly, the thought saddened him. She couldn't give him that small smile after she had, he knew.

Oh, he had a nice smile. It caught Sofía by surprise, especially as it seemed to disappear as quickly as it graced his handsome face. No! She shouldn't start thinking of him as handsome. That was a bad path to go down when they were going to be working in close quarters for weeks. And now she was remembering what he'd looked like when he came to greet her...

She took the coffee with a murmur of thanks, convincing herself that it was just an accident that he touched her hand.

"Well," she said slowly, a slightly cheeky smile creeping onto her lips, "so far, anyway. You might still prove me wrong." Sofía sipped her coffee, savouring the first taste of the dark liquid. "Oh!" Thinking of Bennie reminded her of something. "I'm pretty sure I'm mutuals with Bennie on Winstagram. I might be able to send her a DM."

"Yeah?" He asked, when she mentioned being able to reach out to Bennie. "That wouldn't be considered bribing your instructor would it?" He asked with a smirk. That's right, he was about to be her instructor... He had to think of her as his student. A very good looking, tiny, feisty, talented student but... a student nonetheless. Why the hell had they saddled him with this assignment?! His face turned sullen for just a moment, but then he saw her face as she savored the coffee and the look melted off of him.

"Then again, I suppose having a student over to my house probably wouldn't be considered the most normal introduction either," he added somewhat shyly.

"Do you like it?" He asked, feeling hopeful and nervous at her answer, for no reason he could understand.

"Hm." Sofía's brow furrowed a little as she tried to reason whether or not that would be considered bribery, though she found herself distracted by his smirk. How was he confusing her so much? Bash was a puzzle. Then again, she did so enjoy solving puzzles. "Maybe I'll just have to keep that to myself for a while." Until you're not my instructor. She might still message Bennie, she thought, to see what she knew about Sebastian Pucey.

The shift in his tone had a surprising effect on her. Sofía couldn't decide whether she should look at him or not. "It's less formal," she said carefully. The last time she'd felt like this was when Hugo had taken her to the theatre as a Christmas gift, just the two of them, which made this all the more confusing.

For a moment, she wasn't sure what Bash was asking, but then remembered the smooth glass mug in her hands. "It's lovely. I see what you mean about it being a little flowery."

She seemed nervous again, and he couldn't help but find it adorable. And goodness, the way he was now thinking of her as a student was doing the opposite of what it should - instead of stopping him from thinking about how pretty her blush was, or how adorable her nervousness, he was thinking about how kinda hot the thought that she was his student was to him. Like, why would that be hot? But it definitely was. Dammit.

"You'll keep our meeting like this to yourself?" He asked, and he couldn't help himself, he nudged her fingers lightly with his own, trying to get her to look at him again, maybe even blush again, because it was so lovely when she did. "I suppose you'll save me some embarrassment around the office if you do, what with the towel and all..." he said with a soft chuckle.

Sofía's breath caught as he touched her hand again. This time there was no mistaking that it had been purposeful and it did the job of getting her to look up at him again. Standing here in a strange kitchen drinking exquisite coffee shouldn't have been so... whatever this was. Sofía was sure she'd made promises to herself after graduation that she'd refrain from developing silly crushes.

Except now he was making her think of the towel again! That wasn't fair!

"Some things are best kept out of the office," she agreed slowly, meeting his gaze. "The towel stays just between us." Realising just how literal that had been, Sofía laughed.

He laughed with her and felt an almost-uncomfortable warmth spread through his chest. Indeed, the towel had been between them. "I thank you for that," he said, his mind wandering to maybe being curious if there was anything else she'd like to keep between them.

"Speaking of the office, I wasn't joking about the very long days and very close quarters, is that alright?" He held back his urge to reach out and touch her hand again.

Something about the way he was looking at her made Sofía feel bold, like doing the most difficult Sunday crossword in ink. The more she looked at Bash, the easier it was and the less it felt as if it was sort of wrong to make too much eye contact. She realised that neither of them had really moved since he had handed her the coffee; Sofía didn’t usually stand quite so close to coworkers.

Sofía shook her head, though she meant yes, it would be be okay. "I spent two weeks training in an old mine. I’m sure I can can cope just fine being with you."

"You're sure?" He asked, holding her gaze. He wondered if he'd be able to cope with it! Sure, they had ~sort of flirted via Winstagram, but being in her proximity was so much different, and when had they gotten so close to each other just standing over their coffees? He swallowed thickly, realizing his hair was still dripping lightly on the shoulders of his tee shirt, and hoping against hope that she wasn't uncomfortable with the closeness.

Sofía had never intended to flirt, but in her defence she hadn't really realised what she was doing until this moment. There was just something about the way he spoke - or wrote - to her that was drawing it out. She'd barely done anything like this in the last year, so focussed on work that there just wasn't time for it. And work was exactly why she was here in the first place! She didn't appreciate that sort of blurriness, but Bash had such a nice smile when he let it show...

"I think so. I haven't seen any monsters yet."

For a cursebreaker, she was having an awfully hard time shattering the spell he seemed to have over her.

He smiled again - a genuine one that lit up his face - before it dimmed and he said, "Maybe they're just very good at hiding." It wasn't phrased as a question and his voice was low, almost... Sad. He took another sip of his coffee.

"I'm glad you like it," he said, bumping her hand that was holding her mug, to indicate the coffee, and then he gave her a small, shy smile. By now he found himself nearly leaning into her space, like someone might while seeking out the warmth of another on a cold night. But it wasn't cold in the townhouse, and he was in just a tee shirt and gym shorts, barefoot at that.

She frowned slightly into her coffee. Sebastian seemed very determined to paint himself as an ogre, but Sofía hadn’t seen any sign of that so far. Would a monstrous person really offer some of the last remaining coffee from their favourite stash to someone they barely knew? Sofía didn’t think so.

He’d crept into her space little by little and Sofía couldn’t deny that she sort of liked it. Looking up at him, his smile somehow warmed her more than the coffee; this training time at the hospital was going to be harder than she’d thought, but not for the reasons she’d experienced. “You have very good taste,” she said softly.

Bash wanted to sigh - or maybe groan - when she spoke softly like that. So lovely.

He took a breath through his nose, trying to center himself. He was pretty sure they were standing so close that she couldn't probably feel his breath on her soft skin - well, he assumed it was soft, it certainly looked soft - or maybe she could hear his heart beating wildly in weird anxiety, nerves, and an overwhelming desire to just calm himself the fuck down.

He made to speak again, but just then the front door - just through the open concept lounge, next to the open kitchen - opened. Isla walked through and Bash felt himself jump back as if he'd been caught doing something he shouldn't be. He straightened up and looked to Sofia with a professional smile on his face. "Well, I'm glad we got to chat, Sofia, I'm looking forward to working with you." Isla gave them a funny look and headed upstairs to her room.

With an apologetic look, he ushered Sofia to the floo and bid her goodnight, before heading back to the kitchen to swig down the last of his coffee and clean up from making it, washing the two mugs before heading back to his own room to think way too much about the whole encounter.
