Albie had developed a good work ethic over the years and even something of a reputation for picking up extra shifts when asked. He thought that was why Hannah hadn't questioned it when he'd texted that he was under the weather. Or maybe she thought it was something to do with Maria. Which it wasn't. Except it kind of was.

Maria still hadn't mentioned anything to him about anniversaries so now he still didn't know if that was important or not? Did he even want anniversaries with anyone was a bigger question. He was only 21. He shouldn't be settling down. If he did that, he'd be no better than his parents. Next thing you knew he'd be marrying his best friend's little sister and having babies. Lyra was one of his favourite people but he didn't want to inflict that on her.

Fuck, did he want kids one day?

Yes? One day?

So Kenzie was a godsend. He'd invited her over and ended up ordering pizza because cooking was just not on the agenda.

"I wish," complained Albie from his position sprawled out on his couch, "there was just an easy switch to just flick and turn my brain off." But the special goodies that Kenzie had brought might be the next best thing.

He giggled! It was just another point in Albie's favor, Kenzie so enjoyed spending time with him. She snorted with laughter at his joke, shaking her head, while popping a pepperoni into her mouth. "I totally enjoyed snogging with you. I sorta regret never going further with anyone, but eh," she admitted with a shrug of her shoulders. "I enjoyed my first time and had an epic orgasm, from what I hear that's not always the case for most first time events."

Her eyes popped out of her head at his next words. "Hey!" she was giggling herself, shaking her head. He was likely one of the few people on the planet that hadn't seen it! "I'll totally forgive you, under one condition," she said after finally deciding just how she would torment her friend. "You have to tell me your most embarrassing moment, preferably something including someone you're snogging," she said with an evil little smile.

"That’s because I’m very skilled," Albie said, even if it was hard to keep a straight face. Sex was great, obviously, but there was still a lot of fun to be had fully clothed.

Albie narrowed his eyes, thinking that was a mean question. "Including someone I’m snogging…" he mused, lips pressing into a pout. His mind felt blank for a moment, a combination of the question and the weed. "Okay, this might count. Maybe? At school I had a very… vivid dream about someone." Albie attempted to use his eyebrows to convey the fact that this was a dream a teenage boy could not deny. “And I overslept and he was the one who had to wake me up. So I could not look him in the face for two days." He exhaled. "Or anywhere else."

Kenzie couldn't keep a straight face, she burst into giggles hearing him admit to the skills. He was right, she wouldn't fight that. It was more that she found it hilarious that he was admitting to it himself.

His story had her eyes growing wider with each word, until her jaw dropped when he said that person was who had to wake him up. "Bloody hell, that's definitely the worst. Are you able to look them in the face now?" she asked curiously, unable to help it from popping out. "Mine would have to be when Professor Weasley caught me smoking pot at that gala event. I maybe slightly flirted with him. Made him uncomfortable, to the point he called me by the wrong name," she admitted, biting her lower lip to stop that wicked smile from spreading across her face.

"Oh, yeah. It's fine now." It had been Scorpius and everything was great now, his stupid recurring crush notwithstanding.

Albie dissolved into more laughter when it clicked with him exactly who she meant by Professor Weasley, his brain needing a moment to catch up. Uncle Charlie and flirting of any kind were two ideas that had never existed in the same space before for Albie. "No wonder he was uncomfortable. He probably looked like a frightened rabbit." A big, gruff frightened rabbit. "I was just off at the bar at that thing trying to ignore the fact that my parents were selling themselves to the highest bidder."

His laughter was infectious, she found herself laughing as well. "Oh you've no idea, I'm almost certain he almost tripped over his feet. He all but ran away from me," she admitted with a playful eye roll over how ridiculous the entire thing had been. It had all been because of her, she knew she'd been the one that had made it inappropriate. Professor Weasley however had been the gentleman, at least until he'd lectured her.

"Ooh, that must have been awkward. I'll one up you, my dad is marrying my aunt," she said with a fit of giggles herself, the food and joint all forgotten now. She melted into the couch, stretching legs in front of herself. "All families are fucked up, I swear." She was grinning though as she thought about how she was sleeping with Jasper, which just made her entire family situation even stranger. She didn't regret a thing.

Albie winced in sympathy for both his uncle and Kenzie, although he sort of wished he could have seen it. He'd had more fun propping up the bar, though.

Since he was going to be a big brother again in his twenties, Albie had to agree. Hopefully his dad wouldn't decide to start a new family too. "Yep, pretty much. Gotta love 'em, though." Most of them, anyway.

Something about this situation reminded him of evenings in the common room and stolen moments after curfew. Albie knew he shouldn't be thinking back on that sort of familiarity, but he was comfortable and relaxed and the joint was doing exactly what he'd wanted it to do. His fingers brushed an errant curl from Kenzie's face seemingly of their own accord.

"I always feel like it's not a proper family gathering if I haven't scandalised at least two relatives," he said with a grin.
