This was it, she was going to leave him, he was sure of it. She couldn't keep doing this, and Miguel was sure she meant their relationship. He knew things hadn't been great the whole time, but he'd tried so hard to be what she needed. She'd been the one avoiding him, not putting their relationship first, not him.
But then she kept talking, and he thought that maybe there was some hope. "We don't know anything for sure yet. I'll have to ask for a paternity test. I don't even know her, Les, I swear. There was a lot of drinking and partying when we were apart, and maybe it makes me a terrible person that I don't remember everyone I slept with then, but even if it is my baby, you are the one I love, the one I want to spend my life with." He didn't think it was in him to spurn his responsibility if the baby was his, but that didn't mean he had any obligation to Lyra.
