Two Break-ups Title: You promised me forever Fandom: Buffy The Vampire slayer Season Seven Characters: Dawn, Buffy, and Frankie (sort of) Summary: Sometimes, the break up is permanent. Notes: Nope, still don't own buffy. Still own Frankie.
Dawn tried to fight the tears back. “I can’t believe you would do this to me. How can you have said all those things about forever, and do this to me!” She couldn’t look at him. Her Fairy tale was destroyed, and it was his fault. She pounded her fist into the wall with a scream of fury and frustration.
“Dawn.”
“You told me you would never leave me! You told me you loved me!! You call this love? Going somewhere I can’t find or follow?” She turned to the boy and took to pounding her fists into his chest. “I hate you! I hate you! Why did you leave me? Why?”
“Dawn.”
The young woman laid her head on his chest, her anger spent and cried. “Come back to me. Please? Don’t leave me.” She continued to beat feebly on his chest, as if that would bring him back to her.
“Dawn, please.”
Dawn felt her sister’s arms on her shoulders as Buffy pulled her gently away from the still form of Frankie. “I should have learned from your mistakes Buffy.” She looked back at Frankie as she rested a hand on Buffy’s. “Never date a Hero. They always leave you in the end.” She let Buffy help her to her feet and lead her out of the room. She looked back one last time, still hoping that he would open his eyes and wink. He did have the worst sense of humour. But he was still motionless, still dead. “See you on the other side, Frankie.” She wiped away a final tear. “See you on the other side.”
Title: Not what you need Fandom: Buffy three months Post Season Seven Characters: Willow and Kennedy Summary: Willow realizes she is being unfair to Kennedy when she isn't what Kennedy needs
Willow sat up in the King sized bed, and brought her knees to her chest. She glanced at the sleeping form and sighed. Kennedy stirred and rolled over to lie on her stomach. Will waited until she was sure Kennedy was asleep before throwing back the covers and moving to the window.
She opened the window to feel the cool fall breeze against her skin as she sat down on the window seat. She looked out over Sunnydale. The town was slowly coming back to life after the “earthquake”, but it still felt so empty. The school was destroyed…again. This time, they had managed to convince city elders to move the school somewhere else and build a beautiful green park over where the high school had been, with a large concrete fountain right over the mouth into hell. It would take a lot of work to get into it now. The new school wouldn’t be ready for another year and a half.
With so few students back in town—mostly it was just Dawn and the younger Slayers—Principal Wood was holding classes in the Summers’ basement. Xander was enjoying the booming business with so much having to be rebuilt. He was even doing Buffy a favor and adding two new additions to the house: a new wing with Slayer Dorms and a training room.
Kennedy had used her family’s considerable influence to buy several houses as well to house any Slayers who came looking for guidance to their newfound strength, and a building downtown for the new Watcher’s council. Life was moving on, and things should have been looking up for the witch, who had a wonderful woman who loved her.
And that was the problem keeping her awake this night. Kennedy was most certainly in love with Willow, Willow was not in love with Kennedy. Oh, she loved the Slayer, that much was true, but she was no more in love with her than she was in love with Xander or Buffy. She had used Kennedy because the Slayer because the woman provided something that Willow had desperately needed after losing Tara and her sanity. She needed to feel like she was a being worthy of love.
Willow had realized this fairly early in the relationship, yet had put up blinders to hide it from her and from others. Willow hated that she was using Kennedy as a rebound girl. It was unfair to Kennedy, and in the long run, unfair to herself. When morning came, it would finally be time to end this farce and set both of them free.
She woke up when the first rays of morning sun landed on her face. The red head had fallen asleep at the window. She looked over at the bed. Kennedy was still asleep. Willow moved silently to the bed and sat down, waiting for the dark haired Slayer to wake.
A few minutes after Willow climbed back into bed; Kennedy stretched and rolled to face her girlfriend, a smile on her face. “Hmmm, good morning, Red,” she murmured.
Willow steeled herself for what she had to do. “Kennedy, we need to talk.” Kennedy looked into Willow’s eyes, sitting up. She smiled nervously. “What, was I snoring again? I told you, Red, you just need to poke me and I roll over, swear.”
Will shook her head. “No, Kennedy, it’s not about that.” She took a deep breath. “It’s about us. About where we’re headed.” She didn’t wait for Kennedy to say anything. She was afraid if she did, then she would back down, and keep up this charade. “Kennedy, we both know that this is going nowhere. We’re together because it’s comfortable, and there’s some pretty good chemistry between us. But nothing is going to work out between us. You were my rebound girl. And it isn’t fair to you to keep playing this game when we both know I can’t be what you need.”
She looked back at Kennedy. The dark haired Slayer looked at her confused. “What are you saying? Are you saying that these past six months have meant nothing to you? That I mean nothing to you?”
“No! Look, you’re a wonderful girl. And have a great future ahead of you, but us isn’t it. I’m not what you need. I do care about you, but more like I care about Xander, Dawn, or Buffy.” She looked away. “I’ve only cared about one person the way you want me to care about you.”
“Tara.” Kennedy said. Truth be told, she had been waiting for this bomb to drop. So, the legends about black dogs were true, she thought. In the end, they do break your heart. Kennedy stood, and reached for her clothes. Getting dressed she asked, “So, I guess I move in with the other Slayers in the house across the street now. I hope Vi held that room for me like I asked her to.”
Willow cocked her head. “Were you figuring on having to move out?”
Kennedy nodded. “Let’s just say, a little black dog told me.” She smiled at Willow, even though her heart was breaking. “Still friends, right Red?” Will nodded, speechless. Kennedy smiled. “Then it’s all good. See ya around, Red.”
With that, Kennedy walked out the door and was gone, leaving a bewildered Willow behind.
