Typing out the last of the coding for the archive, Ianto finished with a sigh. There were so very many things that could be done in the Pegasus Galaxy, yet he was stuck behind a computer writing machine code. The very thought of it made him sick and he was so glad for it to be over already.
Now was not the time for him to go soft, though. There were still many things he needed to do before the Daedalus arrived tomorrow. Ianto closed out the link to the mainframe. That part of his job was now done.
Stretching his arms above his head, he leaned back in his chair to give his legs room. It felt so good to just allow himself to break from the usual position, he actually let out a moan of pleasure. Shuffling feet behind him reminded him that he wasn't alone in the lab. Cheeks coloring, he ended the stretch and stood up.
The lab filled with scientist during the day, so Ianto preferred to work at night. It wasn't that he was anti-social, they just didn't speak of things he could understand, or had clearance for. It would have been lonely if not for the one mad scientist who kept the same hours. Well, him and the body guard.
As he moved towards the makeshift coffee bar, he caught the eye of Dr. McKay. Of course the man's attention would be drawn to him. At the machine, Ianto filled a mug with coffee and a few select additives. Grabbing a second mug, he filled it with the same. A third mug was filled from the tea dispenser with plain sugar.
Picking up the mugs, he could swear he heard Dr. McKay whimper. Almost without thought, he carried the first mug over to Dr. McKay's desk.
It didn't even make it to a reasonable orbit before said scientist was carefully taking it from Ianto. He only had eyes for the steaming mug. "Thank you, you're a life saver."
"You are most welcome." But his response was drowned in the sucking sounds and moans coming from McKay. Ianto had been perturbed by this the first time it happened, he had since learned to just ignore it. Glancing at the second mug, he started for the one guard.
Reaching the far side of the room, he looked up in time to see half lidded blue eyes watching him. This was nothing new. Holding out the mug, he gave the man a polite smile. "Here you are, Major."
Accepting the mug, Major Lorne let his fingers brush against Ianto's palm. "Thanks." Not taking his eyes away from Ianto's face, he watched the other man while he brought the mug to his lips. Slowly, he licked the rim before taking a sip. His moan was low and throaty. When he pulled back, he sucked on his bottom lip before sighing. "It's very good."
"So I see." Nodding once, Ianto started to turn away, but was brought up short by a hand on his. He stared at it for longer than was practically necessary before responding. He tried to pull free, but the fingers tightened their grip. "Is there something you wish, Major?"
"Oh, so many things." There wasn't a bit of hesitation in his movements as he leaned in closer. Lorne cast a glance to Rodney to make sure he was engrossed with his coffee and work before crossing the last bit of distance. He noticed that Ianto held himself rigid, but didn't let that stop him. "Would you care to go for a walk?"
Ianto didn't know what possessed him. There should have been a firm negative response. He wasn't going to be there on Atlantis much longer than tomorrow. Any simpleton would know that accepting the invitation was only heralding a heartache.
But still.
Still.
It had been ten long months. There was no denying the fact Jack was far from likely to ever come back. His assignment on Atlantis had been because he was the only one who had no one relying on him back home in Cardiff. A dustbuster and a trip to Starbucks covered for his absence.
Ianto let out a half sob before he could clamp down on his emotions. Forcing his mind to quash any thoughts and feelings not focused there in the moment, he squeezed Lorne's hand. Raising his eyes, he met Lorne's hungry expression. "That sounds lovely."
Triumphant smile a mile wide, Lorne pulled Ianto closer to link their elbows. He patted Ianto's hand where it lay resting on his forearm. "Let's go to the North Tower, there's a view of the Andromeda Galaxy that always reminds me of home."
As they passed by Dr. McKay, Ianto kept his gaze ahead. He knew the other man didn't approve of their flirting, but didn't want guilt to give strength to his own nagging reservations. It wasn't something serious, all three knew that, and Ianto was going to prove to the older man he could do casual.
Because, he could. Really.
He wasn't going to regret it in the morning.
Dr. McKay's snort from behind them before the hatch closed caused him to flinch.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once they had reached the observation balcony of the North Tower, Ianto had expected some pointless conversation. Instead, once the hatch had sealed behind them, Lorne had pressed him against the wall with his body. Ianto could feel how excited the Major was to be with him.
Letting his head fall back against the wall behind him, Ianto bared his throat. His breath hitched as Lorne took the invitation to lean in and press his lips to Ianto's neck. Placed just above his adam's apple, the kiss was soft and wet. Still, having something closing over his throat sent a thrill of panic through him.
Gasping, Ianto felt his pulse racing. It was too much, Lorne was going too fast. He wanted it to slow down, but as the other man's hands slid down his body, he couldn't object. Large hands slid up his body, under his shirt, down the back of his pants. His voice was high pitched, breaking in his ears as his shirt was raised.
Ianto closed his eyes while the material was raised over his head. A wet heat latched on to his nipple and he cried out. Shuddering, Ianto could feel the Major smirk against his skin. Slick kisses were pressed over his chest up to his collar. Then Lorne's face was once more in his field of vision.
He tried to catch his breath, but it was fleeting and dangerous. "I thought we were going for a walk."
"No need." Lorne slid his hands down between them. Grabbing his own belt, he started to undo the buckle. "We're already here." With that, he grabbed Ianto's hips and spun him to face the wall. Pressing his lips to the junction of the younger man's shoulders and neck, he mouthed the skin.
"Oh."
Morning found him wandering the chow line in the mess hall. Ianto held a hand over his mouth to cover the yawn, but couldn't stifle the sound he made. His body ached in several places, but it was nothing he hadn't dealt with before. Grabbing a tray, he heard the level of whispering normally associated with scandal.
Apparently some body was busy being a gossip today.
That was nothing new. Ever since he first set foot aboard the outpost, he had heard the rumor mill going full tilt. It seemed that they had nothing better to do between attacks than spread tales, no matter how false. This was nothing he was unfamiliar with from back home.
While he was reaching out to grab the Pegasus Galaxy's equivalent to an orange, a familiar hand snagged the banana next to it. Ianto glanced over his shoulder to see a disappointed Rodney. "Greetings, Dr. McKay."
"Don't greetings me. I know what you did, half the base knows what you did." Dr. McKay caught himself in time to prevent a shout. Leaning in close, his eyes darted about quickly. "I hope it was worth it."
"It wasn't." Seeing he had stunned the other man with the admission, Ianto slid his tray down the rails. There was a pasta dish that smelled just awful and he wanted to move passed it before he got stuck down wind. Stopping at the salad bar, he grabbed a premade tossed salad with chicken.
When Dr. McKay had gathered his wits enough, he followed along, his own tray severely lagging behind. He stopped to pick up a bowl of the pasta and carried on. As he reached Ianto's side again, he became more bold. "Do you have any idea the point spread? You cost a lotta people a lot of money."
That drew Ianto up short. He hadn't been aware people were actually betting on his sex life. Then again, once he actually considered it, he wondered why he hadn't thought about it before. "How much did you lose?"
"Are you kidding, I won!" Dr. McKay's eyes widened. Clearing his throat, he leaned in so he could whisper some more. "It was a sucker's bet, I had inside knowledge for the whole thing. Not that I needed it with Major Lorne."
"And what exactly does that mean?" Ianto was feeling obtuse. For some unknown reason, whatever Dr. McKay was implying just wasn't registering with him. Perhaps it had something to do with the fact he was busy trying not to listen to the conversations around them.
"Oh, don't give me that. He's been mooning over you since you arrived. Honestly, he's been like a teen with his first hardon. Usually it's the Colonel I have to chastise over such things." Gesturing with a pickle spear, Dr. McKay made his conversation points with a physical gesture. He wasn't even paying attention to the people around him, else he would have noticed they had gone quiet.
Well, that was certainly news to him. Ianto wasn't usually that absorbed in his own affairs. "Is that so?"
Rolling his eyes, Dr. McKay snorted. "You can't tell me that you didn't notice the fact he has been your body guard every day since you arrived. He's a major and the leader of an offworld team, that's the kinda work left to grunts. No, my friend, you were the new world and he planted his flag to claim your behind in the name of his sexual prowess." By the time he finished, he was snickering.
"When you put it like that, I'm surprised there wasn't more competition." No longer hungry, Ianto continued passed the desserts to the trash bins. Dropping the contents in one, he stacked his tray with the others for washing. He kept his focus on the floor ahead of him as he sailed through a crowd and out of the mess hall.
Having caught the tail end of Ianto's actions, Rodney frowned. He stared in shock at the silent people in the mess hall. "What did I say?"
Stuffing the last of his suits in the garment bag, Ianto placed the bag on a final unoccupied hook in his steamer trunk. He glanced over the rest of his temporary quarters. Everything he had brought with him was back in the drawers on the right hand side or hanging on the hooks on the left hand side of his trunk. Since the other cases he had brought with him from Torchwood were staying behind, this was the only baggage he had.
He sealed the trunk with the two latches on the top and three on the side. To finish it off, he slid the leather straps through the buckles over the seam. There was nothing left for him to do until he departed. Since that was four hours away, he finally had time to explore Atlantis, yet, all he wanted to do was sleep.
Ianto snorted.
Three weeks he had been on Atlantis and this was the first chance he had had. He had been on long distance assignments before, but even then he found time to look around before leaving. There should have been time, but some how, it had slipped from him. So much had needed doing, things he would never have to deal with again since Atlantis was now taking over those duties. He would miss some of it.
Activating the beacon on the trunk, Ianto stepped back. A second later, his trunk disappeared in a flash of white light. The American starship was a marvel, but he would be glad to be home again. Finished, he faced his bed, his soon to be former bed. He hadn't slept the night before after his shift had ended and there were still four hours before boarding call.
Ianto was contemplating how soft the sheets would feel against his skin when the door chime interrupted his thoughts. He had to blink at it several times to realize that someone was on the other side wanting in. Feeling foolish, he staggered over to it and activated the hatch.
It pulled back to reveal an exhausted looking Major Lorne. When he caught sight of Ianto, he gave him a tired smile. "Mind if I come in?"
"I'm tired." With that, Ianto turned and headed for the bed. Behind him he could hear Lorne follow him in and the door close. It wasn't that he didn't care what the man was doing there, he just didn't have the cognitive energy to deal with it properly. So, he just pulled off his shirt, kicked off his shoes, and climbed in to the bed.
Not wasting in any time, Lorne toed off his own boots. Leaving his clothes on as there were too many to remove, he crawled in along side Ianto. Settling his hand on the other man's side, he grinned. "I didn't mean for the others to know."
"Doesn't matter. I won't have to deal with them again." His big words and proper speaking were out the window. Lorne, whatever his first name, because Ianto never bothered to learn it, was stuck with his boorish self. "Shut up and sleep now."
"All right." Still smiling, Lorne pulled Ianto back against his chest. The room was too warm for a blanket, so they lay on top of the covers.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When the chime came over his comm, Ianto barely had the presence of mind to sit up in bed. Reaching down to the floor, he picked up his shirt and shoes. He pulled them on and tied them off, all without getting off the bed. Picking up the earpiece from the bedside stand, he slipped it on. "Jones."
"Mr. Jones, we are ready for you."
"Give me a second." Taking off the comm, he shifted so he could face the sleeping major. The sight of the broad chested man in his bed made his heart ache. It wasn't much of an attachment, but he had spent some of his best times on Atlantis in Lorne's custody. His memories of the ancient city would always be tainted by their interactions.
Leaning down, he placed a hand on the bed to brace himself. The other man was so content, he just lay there and slept. Ianto wanted to return to his embrace, no matter how brief. He longed for those beautiful blue eyes to behold him just one more time. When he was close enough, he pressed his lips to Lorne's.
The contact was brief, ending when Lorne started to respond. Pulling back, Ianto smiled as the major cracked open one eye to stare at him. Ianto reached up to caress a hand over his cheek. "Thank you." He pressed the beacon on his comm.
Lorne opened both his eyes in time to see Ianto disappear in the Asguard transport beam.

After the doors closed, Ianto glanced about his new home for the next month. The Daedalus was severely cramped compared to Atlantis, barely giving him room for his trunk and bed. The toilet wasn't but a fold out bowl in the wall with the sink placed above it. "All the amenities of home."
In one month, he would be back on Earth. Thirty days until he was once more serving coffee in the hub. It felt an extremely long time considering how quickly his stint on Atlantis had passed. Glancing down at his hands, Ianto closed his eyes.
Foregoing unpacking his trunk in the meager closet provided, Ianto climbed on to the bed. It felt the same as the one on Atlantis, probably from the same manufacturer. The blankets were standard issue military, but he had gotten used to that. Even the pillow was the same flat, lifeless brand on Atlantis.
