It was so odd. For once he was alone, in the quiet of his own home. He had spent days travelling over the healing earth. Finding rest once in the midst of relatives, again in the midst of friends low beneath the earth, once again in the midst of friends newly crowned, and the final rest he had been blessed with was within the home of a dear relative, now long gone and resting eternally with the gods. Legolas sometimes wished that he had embarked on that last boat as well, to go from this place that he had seen two wars over. To be gone from the evil that was sure to rise again, because the curiosities of Man, Hobbit and even Elf could not rest for long. One day, far away from this very one, there would be a darkness stirred again. Legolas knew of these things. He had heard the other elves speak of such things. Elves that were far wiser than him already knew what was to come of Arda and her beings.
He sat alone. The wide table set before him; a lone meal. His house was quiet. There were no Hobbits singing catchy tunes, no Ranger who should be king gently smoking on a pipe after settling back in his chair with a full stomach, no dwarf eating him out of house and home, and no wizard muttering ideas and thoughts half to himself and half to the others in the quiet ramblings of genius. The fruit before him nearly tasted bland compared to the earthy spices of the Dwarves, and the herbal mixes of the Hobbits.
Sighing he finished what he had put on his plate, and pushed back from the table. Hands crossed at his back as he began pacing. Legolas of Mirkwood, Lord of the Elves of Ithilien, had only been home just for the day. A full day, and yet he was pining for those he had just left; so odd of him to be pining over something with the fresh day ahead of him. Pining was for after second breakfast. His lips gently pulled up at the corners as he thought of his dear friends. After all, they had given him such joy over the past years, more than he had in his lifetime.
