Kazi No Stigma
So the Kannagi are protected by fire spirits and have control over the elemental power of fire. But the oldest child/son in the family could not do anything with fire whatsoever. And there was a traditional duel to see who would be next in line to take up the responsibilities of being the fire heir, and of course he failed.
Four years later he shows up as an expert controller of the element of air (wind). And I am ROLLING MY EYES SO DAMN HARD. Cause seriously fire is nothing without air, without oxygen a fire can't even exist. But this character is meant to be damned, his father rejects him, everyone is all 'It's such a shameful pity he had no apptitude for fire'. As if it doesn't make sense for spirits to insure there was oxygen/wind somewhere in the line in order to support fire.
Seriously, I know this is supposed to, in some fashion, represent the folly of a traditional family's obsession with honor and status. But for fuck's sake people this stupid should just die.
I mean, they banished him from not just the family but Japan, to the point where a third removed cousin sees him and is all 'Who gave you permission to come back to Japan'. Third removed cock-up cousin with no real fire skills, but y'know, the fire manifests so he gets to stick around. Maybe I've just reached my limit with plotlines revolving around families not appreciating their children/members for stupid ass reasons. Bunch of imbeciles and idiots.
Did they even think to test the child with other elements? Could they be remotely proud to have a bloodline that producers strong elemental masters? Oh no.
Stupid ass pride.
*attempts to finish watching the first episode - half to go*
....
3 minutes into the second half of the program. Discover that the clan of wind manipulators serves the fire clan. So they are aware of air supporting fire but treat them like trash.
Yeah.... the end of this episode better have some commeuppance for more than the jackass who got killed or I'm not watching this shit anymore. WTF, do they treat the family that manipulates earth so badly too? (I'm assuming there is a clan that controls earth). Cause then they're even more foolish. "Oh, we're fire. You're just lowly earth. What do you mean I would starve without you?'
Aaaand now the stupid second and third cousins (who, rember are not considered powerful enough to be part of the 'main' family - seeing how EASILY one of their own was killed are all 'He can't manipulate fire. He's trash and incompetant. I will have my revenge!'
PLEASE let someone trim this family tree of all these useless branches. This is some sperm that cannot survive - for the good of the human race.
Also? If it turns out that the main character (cause I'm rolling my eyes at Miss Firespirit Girl) has access to wind elemental power because his mother was part of the wind mastering clan? And STILL no one thought to thest him because WIND is disgusting and beneath the power of fire. I ... yeah, that whole entire family just needs to end there - with a tornado.
(Did I mention I'm hoping the youngest son, who misses his older brother fiercely, turns out to control water or something. He likely won't. But if fire girl died (she won't, she's in the opening fricking credits) then this father of theirs would lose all his children (the boys) to pride and the family would have no future heir - supidgirl).
Damn it's easy as fuck to manipulate prideful heads. Wait until they show up to confront family member with similar power to yours - then kill them. The one remaining (whom you've carefully separated until the final moment) will lose the tiny bit of intelligence left in her little head and try to kill her own blood. She was after all, only waiting for an excuse.
And surprise surprise, the elder of the next generation (the disowned wind user) is more powerful that Miss Fireunderpants.
Hmm. Might watch the second episode, if only because Kazuma (the disowned wind user) is amused by his family's stupidity, instead of exasperated. But it's looking like the plot is "Disowned son must prove to his entire extended family he's not a murderer" which seems like an exercise in frustration to watch.
Episode 2
Oh!
Sudden thought. If the wind clan has been treated so poorly all these years by the fire clan - the return of their disowned child, who is now also a wind user, would seem to be the most opportune moment to strike back. Because they'll hunt down Kazuma and not look within their own currently counted household. And if Kazuma is as powerful as (has been and likely will continue to be ) revealed, then he might even end up killing in self defense the heads of the fire household.
Or maybe they don't even have to wait on that to get rid of who they want to get rid of for being treated like crap for generations, instead of as a mutually respected clan with different powers.
This just makes the fire clan even MORE STUPID for not having a clue of how much resentment they've built up. Class pride caging their minds. Because they keep repeating that Kazuma is THE ONLY WIND USER WITH A GRUDGE AGAINST THE FIRE CLAN. OMG the stupidity, it's piping hot and dripping. No seriously. Right in front of the head of the wind clan, Kazuma's own father goes 'To be cut down by a filthy wind user is the ultimate disgrace'. But sure, there's only ONE wind user with a possible grudge.
And now his father is all 'I will bring him before us to answer questions, and if I have to, by any means necessary.' - Because that went off so well the last time and now everyone also knows a wind user -somewhere- is gunning for them. But tra la la la Mr. "I have only one son'. Hopefully your head will get split open in the next five minutes.
Wait... I keep thinking of the 4 years abandonment like college (because of his training) but he was wee in the flashback. Way to go Stupid Fire Fatherhead. Disown and abandon a 14 year old child. Oh you are so brave with your honor and blah de blah blah.
Aaand in the flashback he smacks his son around for begging to be allowed to stay home. I've got like 2 thirds left to go.
Did I mention he keeps calling Kazuma an underachiever and slacker? Because not having an inherited trait is totally, TOTALLY, the body's fault.
*cracks up laughing* Oh my freaking heavens. There's a mysterious wind user hunting down and killing members of the fire clan. Who does the head of the Fire Clan go to, to get information on who that wind user is? The head of the -subservient- wind clan. Because THERE IS ONLY ONE POSSIBLE WIND USER WHO COULD HAVE A GRUDGE AGAINST THE FIRE CLAN. So it makes perfect sense to use wind clan members to hunt for 'evidence' of that wind user killer.
M'goodness these are some stupid ass people.
And the stupidity continues. You suspect your son might be killing members of your clan. What's the first thing you do on seeing him for the first time in 4 years? Call him an imbecile, because of your stupid, fucking pride.
Also 'smart'? Calling the powers of a wind user 'mere gimmicktry' because true power, don't you know, is fire. Though I suppose the people who would contest that wind can't maim are all dead.
....
Yeah - the father that kicks his child out so 'he can find his own power' is an asshole. And heaven forbid, said son hadn't found formindable wind power, said father was gonna roast him alive. Yeah... guess who's not watching a third episode of this crap? Bad parenting is not actually good parenting in disguise.
And cute little brother is supposed to someone cry Kazuma into saving the family from the grudge they've created for how many centuries?
Yeah, the relationship between the two brothers would almost make me watch a third episode. But Fireunderpants Girl is just too damn chupid.
