Barak resigns as CEO of Six Apart

lj-biz announced about half an hour ago that Barak Berkowitz has resigned as Chairman and CEO of Six Apart.

Well, actually, they announced they have a new CEO, Chris Alden, and only mention Barak's resignation in passing. Imagine that, 6A being indirect and uncommunicative and beating around the bush.

The post is here, with comments disabled, and links to more "information."

This does not bode well with me. They seem to think that change of CEOs isn't something their users need to be concerned about when it greatly concerns the users.

I sense the end is nigh for them.
And/or they're trying to play it way, way, way down. Because it's not at ALL ominous. No, no, everything's fine here!
OT, but I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or whathaveyou. xD

But I'll be laughing my head off if 6A/LJ ends up getting their ass handed to them on a rusty, old iron platter.
I usually am. I've been infested with the dread sarcasm illness. It is dreadfully tragic. I have a life of woe.

:)

Me too. XD
the disabled comment bit is *classic*.

i'm waiting for the teeming masses to dig up dirt on this guy. he claims blogging is teh awesome, but does he actually provide more content than a youtube link or a photo or two a month? no. he does not.
I'm actually most interested about the fact that he was in charge of their professional products before taking on the role of CEO. To me, that says 6A is moving ahead even more with their corporate view of what LJ should be, and what content is allowed v TOSed. I foresee even worse things for fandom than before with the new leadership they have over there. It was especially telling that in both of the links provided, greater attention was paid to the professional products 6A has and seemed to downplay LJ's role in it all. Very worrying. I'm glad I moved ship to IJ.
Popcorn and beer at my place!

Seriously, WTF? Disabled comments and really just a quick blurb, and no explanation. How much do you want to bet that they're doing this for several reasons:

1 - Barak made an ass out of them with the whole LJ mess.
2 - Someone finally got pissed off at his smug smiling icon.
3 - They realised the BBB complaints were not stupid petty stuff, and that paying users were migrating like mad.
4 - They actually lost money, not just from users, but from Pepsi.

... My vote is #2.
2 - Someone finally got pissed off at his smug smiling icon.

I laughed.
Meanwhile, at Valleywag:

<<As for Berkowitz, there is no word on his next professional move -- a spokesperson for Six Apart said that he was taking a "well earned vacation" immediately following the handover and would then "explore new opportunities.">>
Disabled comments seems pretty telling...
I wonder how things will change around LJ under new management... probably not for the better, I fear.
I can't believe they went from allowing comments to screening them and then ultimately just disabling them. Way to care about the users...
You seem so surprised.

They don't give a shit about the users. The users are product and should be quiet and accept gratefully what's given them.

I'm actually shocked the comment lockdown didn't happen before this.
I am shocked in the way it played out. Normally, they would have disabled / screened them straight out. But they gradually increased the censorship which portrays badly.
Don't spose you got screenshots? :P
Nope, I was on my DS browser at work.
Ah well, worth a try. :P I still need a browser for my DS - the shops only stock the DS lite version, which as I understand it isn't compatible, so it's a case of being lucky enough to find one second hand.
I'm so happy I left, and will rejoice when the last vestiges of my paid account there runs out in October. I'm sure the new head honcho's plan of action will be to continue purging LJ to make it as boring as the applications he sprang from.
They don't think REPLACING THE CEO warrants a [info]news post? Coz, you know, THAT doesn't affect the site or anything...
I notice that on page 29 of the previous post's comments, people started leaving the comments that they couldn't leave on the shut-down one:

Nice screenshot someone took of the post before the comments were deleted/turned off, too.
:D Awesomesauce and major-yaisse!

*spams the post*

I also find it interesting that, yet again, they've made a post with new information at the END of the working week.
I thought things over at LJ were going a bit too quietly.. Guess my little suspicion was right.

Shit's gonna hit the fan soon, if not already.
