InsaneJournal Poll

[info]ceruleagos has a poll about IJ here -- it's about general usage; what features would you want, do you like the site themes, stuff like that.

Another intro ~

I saw the most recent post in this asylum and realized I never really made my own introduction. /shy I hope you guys don't mind another intro post clogging up your friend's list. That and my own post like this was so long ago that being able to do it again is sort of refreshing.

1) Give your name and a little about yourself, including interests and hobbies.
My name is Katt and I'm another young adult who's transfered everything to Insanejournal. I've been here for a while but never really used it as a primary journal since my friend's list was updated twice a week tops. I have a lot of interests and way too many things I consider hobbies to list them all here, but I'm the basic geek who travels around on the web. I've been using journal services since 2000 or so... I like to help out a lot on clone sites like Insanejournal and enjoy volunteering for them more than I do for the bigger sites (less cliques in my opinion, which leads to less drama).

2) Tell us why you came to InsaneJournal. Did someone from IJ tell you (and if so, who)?
I came a while back to help volunteer when I heard about it. I was one of the later accounts to sign up, but enjoy it all the same. The person who brought me here to IJ no longer uses this service (he's a hardcore LJ'er now) but I still enjoy the folks here.

3) What is your favorite thing, so far, about InsaneJournal?
The burst of life brought to the site. I love having an active support board. I enjoy being able to refresh my friend's page to see a new post, instead of being able to check it once a week and hope someone updated. It's great to see LOTS of activity after all this time.

4) Have you joined any other asylums? If not, would you like to?
I have joined a lot and created a few of my own. Some of my favorites are [info]icon_awards, [info]anime_awards, [info]fandomdirectory, and [info]support ;)

5) Is there a certain kind of asylum or type of friends you are looking for?
Active places. As long as they are fun, I want to be there. Friends - if they're interesting and we could get along, I'd love to meet them.

6) Do you want to be an active member of InsaneJournal? (Meaning, do you want to promote IJ, update, and get involved in asylums?)
I think I have been doing that. I hope I can do more in the future.

Journal migration

Courtesy of [info]data_warrior, here's another nifty migration tool -- unlike LJ-sec, this one supports communities!

http://antennapedia.livejournal.com/266462.html?thread=1814238#t1814238

It also migrates the metadata (tags, music, etc.) that LJ-Sec loses. Still doesn't save memories, those have to be done manually.

Another refugee meme...

1) Give your name and a little about yourself, including interests and hobbies.

I'm Jane. I'm another Strikethrough/Boldgate 07 refugee. I created my IJ primarily to follow the exploits of my friends in fandom, and I find I'm liking it more and more as the true extent of 6Apart's issues becomes apparent. Like a number of other emigrants, I represent the intersection of a number of subcultures- pagan, gamer, goth (sort of), enormous liberal, feminist, queer, and polyamorous for the hat trick. My hobbies include reading (predominantly scifi and fantasy), RPGs of all kinds, music (I'm a mediocre but very enthusiastic singer), and- er, there's probably other stuff but my memory is rather poor. Oh that's right- Fandom_Wank.

2) Tell us why you came to InsaneJournal. Did someone from IJ tell you (and if so, who)?
I came to IJ as a result of the ongoing exodus. I don't remember who on my LJ flist linked it first, though.

3) What is your favorite thing, so far, about InsaneJournal?
[info]squeaky's warm welcome was touching.

4) Have you joined any other asylums? If not, would you like to?
Member of: 9: 07refugees, circle_cast, customers_suck, fandom_counts, fandomdirectory, fanficrants, green_pharmacy, lolfandomz, rare_pairs
And I'm always looking for more.

5) Is there a certain kind of asylum or type of friends you are looking for?
I'm mostly looking to stay in touch with my various fandoms- HP, PotC, LotR, and a bunch of smaller quieter fandoms like Aubrey/Maturin and Sharpe (I loves me some historical fiction!).

6) Do you want to be an active member of InsaneJournal? (Meaning, do you want to promote IJ, update, and get involved in asylums?)

I will be using my IJ from time to time, probably in amounts directly proportionate to my frustration with LJ. I'd love to get involved in the communities (still not 100% with calling them asylums, sorry).

Syn feeds and disappearing objects

I wanted to ask if others have been having problems with two issues:

(1) The first is that this morning I discovered comments missing from a post (mine and someone else's) and three of my posts had lost their icon links, reverting to my default (the icons are still loaded in my account). This afternoon another post lost its icon links. It had no comments so I don't know if the two issues are related.

(2) I've been having problems with syn feeds from LJ. I put in a support ticket on it and got a very prompt reply, but I'm rather wondering if it really explains things. The reply was Read more... )
Anyone else having these problems?

IJ info needed

I have several friends who are hesitant to come over to IJ because they're not sure the site can take it. Is there anyone who could point me to info about Squeaky's preparations for handling an influx of LJ refugees? As for the User Stats, it says there are 45,301 total members (atm) but only 1680 are "active." What does "active" mean? That they've posted in the last day/week/month?

[info]letmypidgeonsgo in [info]07refugees

Hi, I'm yet another LJ refugee setting up shop here! So far I love it! Everyone's so nice!

Anyway, I have a question, & I'm sorry if it's been asked already: is there a comm or somesuch with custom layouts of any kind? I wish I could transfer my custom LJ one here, as I've really gotten used to it, but it doesn't seem compatible.

Thanks in advance!

link list: site features and settings

A while ago I did a post in my journal trying to list helpful links concerning Insanejournal.

Right now there are links about:
basics (for example searching the FAQ, ToS and sitemap), insanejournal (settings and viewing options), rss feeds, client(s), abuse (how to report abuse and protect your journal from harassment), mood theme, to-do-list and posting via email.

I'm going to update the list regularly.

Hello, InsaneJournal! Are You Ready To ROCK?!

Because I haven't formally introduced myself on this commumity...

1) Give your name and a little about yourself, including interests and hobbies.

My name is Jordi. I am 21 years old, a college student, and all around half-decent girl. Between college, job search, and other boring crap, I am an active member of the Kingdom Hearts fandom. My journal consists of fandom junk, fanfiction, and general Real Life junk, ranging from opinions on politics to general goings on in Jordiland.

2) Tell us why you came to InsaneJournal. Did someone from IJ tell you (and if so, who)?

I came to InsaneJournal after [info]emilie_burns said something about it. I used to have one a long, long time ago, but it died. At first, started to move my fic journal from LJ ([info]rubyfruit_taste), but I decided to move my personal journal, too.

I'm one of those who came over after the Great Strikethrough thing. I was like, "Crap, I could be next!" and jumped ship. I also have a GreatestJournal, but I'm willing to call IJ my home.

3) What is your favorite thing, so far, about InsaneJournal?

100 free userpics for free users, damn cheap Permanent Accounts, and Squeaky is love. I love the fact that IJ has an administrator who actually cares about his customers and doesn't hold screwed-up double-standards as to what is and is not appropriate.

4) Have you joined any other asylums? If not, would you like to?

Yeah. I've joined about 50, and I run seven, myself. I'd love to find more that have to do with fanfiction and fandom and other stuff.

5) Is there a certain kind of asylum or type of friends you are looking for?

Looking for friends who are in fandom, asylums about just about anything, mostly fandom junk.

6) Do you want to be an active member of InsaneJournal? (Meaning, do you want to promote IJ, update, and get involved in asylums?)

Gladly. I already run seven ([info]nonsk_kairifans, [info]khfanfiction, [info]khff_xxx, [info]royalshadows, [info]royalshadows_x, [info]kh_yaoi and [info]kh_yuri) asylums.

Just a few more links...

Have been going in circles yet again and stumbled on a couple links that I haven't seen posted yet...

Now, this particular one is from a person who is sitting on a fence, so to speak... just be nice, no flaming, no spam, etc.

Also a rather interesting post. I don't agree with some points the person makes, but it still is quite an interesting read

This link is just for the last paragraph of the original post because I really like how it sounds

There. *slinks back into the shadows*

[info]tigresslilly in [info]07refugees

Because everyone else is doing it....

1) Give your name and a little about yourself, including interests and hobbies.
I'm tigresslilly, and I've moved here from lj because I'm strongly anti-censorship.  My interests and hobbies include a whole lot of writing and thinking, reviewing others writing, a general interest in fandom and what seems to be differing various interenet cultures, knitting, exploring my spirituality and how I view the world around me, and spending time with my friends and family.

2) Tell us why you came to InsaneJournal. Did someone from IJ tell you (and if so, who)?
I never had any intention of leaving livejournal.  It was probably a month or so after the strikethrough when I began to suspect that for ethical as well as interest related reason I might need to leave lj.  When neverendingdesires couldn't get straight answers to several of his or her concerns (the correspondence was posted in whydoesljcensor but since has dissappeared) I realized I needed to leave.  Not because fandom wasn't wanted.  Not because an admitted pedophile's journal was erased, but really because lj refused to clarify its terms and policies and the implications they were make were towards cutting off free speech.

3) What is your favorite thing, so far, about InsaneJournal?
I didn't have to learn anything new to run ij, it really is exactly like lj layout with better colors.  I like the insanejournal name.  I like the pricing (So much that I got a perm account when it was only $30).  I really do like tweak and all his funny phrases and I like how ij has promised to allow all speech legally permitted.

4) Have you joined any other asylums? If not, would you like to?
I've joined tons of asylums since I've been here.  In fact I've been a bit of an asylum whore, joining whatever was up to see what was going on and happening.  Some of them no doubt, I'll prefer to others, but I would rather join now and see what's going on then wonder what I'm missing out ou.

5) Is there a certain kind of asylum or type of friends you are looking for?
I am looking for friends with similar interests.  And if you like my profile, friend me I'll friend back.  I'm also looking for friends who would be interested in leaving comment on the massive amounts of writing and scribblings I do, because  I like comments.  I want to make friends with people who won't mind discuss and even arguing over beliefs and thoughts.  I want to make friends who are older than me and I can learn from and friends around my age going though the same sort of things so I can commiserate with them.  I'm interested in giggling over fandom moments and having serious moral discussions and I don't mind mixing the two either.  So yeah, I'll friend just about anyone and we'll see how things go.

6) Do you want to be an active member of InsaneJournal? (Meaning, do you want to promote IJ, update, and get involved in asylums?
Yes, I am prone to interenet hiatuses and mood swings but I fully intend to be highly active and involved in my personal journal and hopefully to at least comment often in the asylums I've joined.

[info]sapphoq in [info]07refugees

1) Give your name and a little about yourself, including interests and hobbies.
I can't remember if I did this yet either.  I'm spike and very much anti-censorship.  I have too many blogs and too many frogs [they live in tanks in their own room], a dog, a couple of cats.  I am active in glbtiq rights.  I like the woods.  I am a non-wiccan witch.  I am recovering from a serious brain injury.  Um...I got into reading fanfic and looking at fanfic art due to the mess over at El Jay.  I like traveling and drinking coffee.  I have been doing computer art for a bit over a year now.

2) Tell us why you came to InsaneJournal. Did someone from IJ tell you (and if so, who)?
I don't now remember who told me about Insane Journal.  I think it must have been a post over at the jihad against innocence community though.  I bought a permaccount here and settled in.  I came because I figure my days on Live Journal [and yahell 360 which also censors] are numbered and because this place is cool.

3) What is your favorite thing, so far, about InsaneJournal?
The price is extremely reasonable.  Squeaky gives personal welcomes.  And I get to watch the goings on at the support team so I can learn how to do that.  And, no fear of censorship cuz someone thinks my work "lacks artistic merit."

4) Have you joined any other asylums? If not, would you like to?
Yep, I've joined quite a few and haven't been as active  here of late as the nasties over at El Jay have started Round Two.  Thinks will calm down there again, I will begin my blog posts about banned artists, and then they shall TOS me out.  All to the good.  I will make myself a few icons and a nifty banner about getting TOSsed from El Jay and then life will go on.

5) Is there a certain kind of asylum or type of friends you are looking for?
I am pretty open and I cannot think of one that I haven't found yet.

6) Do you want to be an active member of InsaneJournal? (Meaning, do you want to promote IJ, update, and get involved in asylums?
Yes, I am writing different stuff in InsaneJournal and that is cool.  I got a nice Insane Journal banner over at my ElJay profile too and will be writing about it at blogspot.

[info]doneril in [info]07refugees

Is this my first introduction?

I saw this nifty form and had to fill it out because it is nifty.

1) Give your name and a little about yourself, including interests and hobbies.

I'm doneril and I'm a medievalist college student fan writer nail polish and slash addict. I love gardening and knitting and sewing and cooking. I harbour secret desires to learn wood working and how to hunt with a gun. I read too much for my own good and am probably skewing statistics by not watching enough television for my age group. I want to be fluent in Anglo-Saxon, Latin, and Middle English and pretend that I'm getting there. I also like making faces at myself in the mirror.

2) Tell us why you came to InsaneJournal. Did someone from IJ tell you (and if so, who)?

I heard about InsaneJournal ages ago (god only knows where) and showed up after the first LJ strikethrough. I also have GJ and JF. I admit that I'm not home anywhere yet - I'm seeing where my Internet-based communities fall (that would be Harry Potter, Firefly, Due South, knitting, spinning, medievalism, Reconstructionist Paganism, hair dying, and gardening in no particular order).

3) What is your favorite thing, so far, about InsaneJournal?

I like Squeaky and I'm in love with 100 free icons. (I admit, my paid LJ got me addicted to those and I was sad when I vowed after strikethrough not to give them more money.) Also, it seems fairly user friendly, which I was worried about because I don't mix with technology terribly well.

4) Have you joined any other asylums? If not, would you like to?

Very few. I'm trying to refind my old LJ friends and see if there are fan communities that migrated. I'm also hoping to find non-fan asylums - knitting, for one, is an online community that I'm craving.

5) Is there a certain kind of asylum or type of friends you are looking for?

I'm one of those sad people who will join an asylum or friend a person if we share very few interests but they seem friendly enough. That's how I got into spinning. And why I want to learn wood working.

6) Do you want to be an active member of InsaneJournal? (Meaning, do you want to promote IJ, update, and get involved in asylums?)

Yes. If I can find people here, I'd probably stay here. If I stay here, I'd get involved, otherwise, knowing me, I'd see a passing hobby shop or dead language and get distracted.

[info]teh_kittykat in [info]07refugees

Guys, I don't mean to be a killjoy, but can people please stop posting these intro memes? It's lifted verbatum from [info]newcomers, which is a more appropriate setting for this kind of thing. We're a bit more about watching 6A sink and talking about the LJ-expat experience, and my f-list is starting to groan under the many consecutive intro memes.

Since I'm not a mod (just asking, plzkthx) and I don't want to waste the post with bitching:

The kerfluffle about LJ being pro-ana made it to Big Fat Blog. For those who don't know, BFB is kind of a central clearinghouse for the Fat Acceptance movement, which in turn is all about ending the discrimination against fat people. (If you read through other posts, you may end up wanting to spork your eyes out even more than if you read posts by LJ admins. Some of the news reports that end up getting onto the blog will curl your hair with how incredibly asinine and unfair people are when it comes to fat people.)

[info]featheredwolf in [info]07refugees

Because I'm a sheep (and because I hadn't introduced myself yet) ...

1) Give your name and a little about yourself, including interests and hobbies.

Well my real name is Kathryn (I go by K on most mailing lists usually) but online I go by Joe. I'm 31, British, and currently unemployed (but I have an interview next Wednesday and I just found that out so I'm telling everyone!). I love animals, pretty much all animals except spiders and I love to write (and read). I write original fiction and fanfiction. And for those of you who know Empire Records, yes that is where I got my online name from. I even have my own Lucas to write with, although she hasn't yet migrated over here. She will though ;)

2) Tell us why you came to InsaneJournal. Did someone from IJ tell you (and if so, who)?

Well I bought my permanent account around the time of LiveJournal's last stupidity and after this recent one I've decided to make this my main home. I still have my LiveJournal because I'm a challenge-aholic and most of those have to be posted on LiveJournal. I've mirrored my fic comms over here, but most of the ones I'm just a writer for haven't yet moved.

The [info]sylumgator told me about this place and I feel right at home here.

3) What is your favorite thing, so far, about InsaneJournal?

It's so friendly, squeaky is great, and it's not run by a company who find their customers to be a necessary annoyance to be patronised, ignored, and insulted. While I don't like their policies about what can and can't be posted what really drove me away was their complete lack of professionalism (When you're working for a company as large as they're becoming then you don't just ignore deadlines, especially ones you set, and you get someone who has a better grasp of plain English to post your 'clarifications', not to mention you don't just start tossing the word paedophile around like it's candy.)

4) Have you joined any other asylums? If not, would you like to?

I've joined a few. I run four fiction challenges, and I've joined another one (although I haven't yet signed up), I'm still looking for more interesting asylums.

5) Is there a certain kind of asylum or type of friends you are looking for?

I'm looking for good fic comms (in many many fandoms, too many to list), a few icons comms, if there are any icon resource comms (brushes and such) I'd like to join some of them. Discussion comms about some of my shows... anything else that just comes up :D

6) Do you want to be an active member of InsaneJournal? (Meaning, do you want to promote IJ, update, and get involved in asylums?)

I've moved all my fic over here (not sure exactly how many but it took me 150 posts over three days) and about 2500 icons so yes I intend to be active here. :D
