medium-length introduction

Hello. I am Vincent. I was one of the hundreds of webloggers on Live Journal of which Six Apart, capitulating to the whim of an anti-erotica vigilanté gang, "permanently suspended". (It sent me two E-Mail messages, five minutes apart, telling me this. It never E-Mailed me that I was reinstated.)

My terminated LJ was my “hidden” journal. I was astute in keeping it separate from my acknowledged LJ.

I have no intention to ever make another entry on LJ. Six Apart probably has all its internet surveillance technology, maybe even including a keystroke logger, awaiting my next logon. (I shall leave it up as a “ruined monument”, similar to a bombed-out monastery; since vigilanté gangs frequently claim a ‘religious’ foundation.) The “bean counters” of Six Apart have only one definition of "free speech": That which will not scare away the investors and advertisers who want to profit off the exertions of its members.

I went to Greatest Journal; but then it directed one of my friends there to remove some verbiage from his User Info page. Now, I am here on Insane Journal. I am clicking on links of other IJ'ers who have the same Interests as I.
One of my Interests is "role playing". But this is actually in the meta depth. I do not play RPG on-line or in the real world. But on the World-Wide Web, I am hiding my real name & location behind this personae. If, at some future point, I actually meet any of you in the real world, then you might learn the actual person behind this mask. But I would have to trust that you wouldn't "out" me here.
I apologize if this reply seems to be “boilerplate”. But the people I am friending deserve more than a one-liner reading, "Hi. Add me, please?". I invite you to read my User Info page(s) (both on here, and on LJ as smooot4) to see if I am o.k. with you.
One warning upfront: Here on IJ, I have friended littlegirllover, who seemed to become the crucible of the entire strikethrough attack. That may be ‘pushing the envelope’ a little too far for you. (It may be ‘pushing the envelope’ a little too far for littlegirllover.) It does not mean I am uninterested in reading your scribblings.
Thank you.

Welcome to ij. I hope your experiences here are better than at other journals...of couse I hope ij proves to be more worthy of my trust than ij by protecting free speech instead of caving to the pressure of the dollar too.
Welcome to IJ!

And as far as I'm concerned, you can friend whomever you want. I happen to be one of the people who agree that LGL's journal was wrongfully suspended.

friending

Yeah, I think 6A is in for money too.
My journal is still there but I back it up all the time. I am only there for a couple communities and a few friends who haven't gotten here. And when I do finally get kicked out of there, I'm going to make myself a huge banner for my uh other LJ account and also for all the other blogs I maintain all over the place.

At first I was just going to double post between LJ and IJ but I am finding that IJ has its own personality and am yielding to it. Happily. I have found much welcoming here and am even learning how to do support requests. [Well I haven't actually written one yet that was accurate enough to be accepted but I keep following along and keep learning].

The thing about advocating for freedom of speech in any arena is that some people are going to speak about things I may not be interested in myself. That is the risk.

The alternative-- to set up judges and censors about what is socially acceptable to talk about and what isn't-- is far worse. Especially on the internet where people can use their back button if they do not wish to be subjected to my [or anyone else's] ramblings.

I was interested in the idea that your hidden lj was suspended. Was it private writings or primarily friends only?
And yeah, I quite think that they are fully capable of monitoring/spying on anyone they choose.

Be that as it may, please tell LGL that spike said hi. I do still have one letter he wrote for safekeeping in case it ever got baleted. No one has a right to tell ya who you can friend and quite frankly, I don't know if I would have mentioned that. Cuz folks can check all that on their own by reading your [or anyone's] profile page to see who is friends if they are using who your friends are as part of a yes or no decision. I have found LGL to be a true gentlemen in the midst of the turmoil over at lj, turmoil which likely is continuing even now. Our friends are our friends.

I gave lj books a bit of money as now it works with both lj and here at insane journal.

You can read my public writings here [anyone can] and friend me if you wish [anyone can]and I will friend you [anybody] back.

spike
