Zion Mystique: Carnivale of The Curious - OOC Comm

Hola! Carlin here bringing in Elizabeth "Beth" Barnes, a midwestern girl that is cursed to transform into a werelion after taking blood laced medicine nearly a year ago. She's nice but is fairly reserved due to the belief she should keep her distance because of her curse. She doesn't want to end up hurting anyone. If your character can push past her attempts to distance herself, they'll have a loyal friend. You can look at her full bio here (it will be prettied up soon, I promise) for a more in-depth look.

She's been with the carnival since February. Her tasks include tending to the first aid station during opening hours and taking care of any needed sewing repairs or modifications as a seamstress. She'll repair virtually anything and, if provided the materials, would be more than willing to create something from scratch. Need a new costume? A sewn set piece? A quilt to keep you warm? She's your girl.

His name is Riley Kip, and he’s just a plain ole human. See his bio for the full spectrum of his none sense but as an overview he’s my most personable character. He is the type to just wander up to someone and start talking to them. He’s friendly, has a large personality, and does his best to do the right thing.

Riley operates the Tunnel of Love; if he notices a young lady without someone to ride with he will ask her if it’s okay to ride with her so she doesn’t have to be alone (this counts for any ride) without any obligation at all other than pure ride enjoyment. Same with the gents, if anyone needs a friend, a partner in crime, an ear to be leant then Riley is your guy!

With the operator job, he also does routine maintenance (especially the riskier jobs that many won’t do) because the job needs to be done.

I’m Rae. I’ve written with some of you before, but for the rest of you who don’t know me: Hola!

I won’t keep you all too long, I’m sure you have plotting and a mess of other things to do. I’m bringing you this lovely lovely. This is Kong Liu, he was born in China and lived there with a small village of people until joining the Carnival. He comes from a lengthy lineage of Air Elementals though the gift is apt to skip a generation or two. While coveted and considered sacred, the temple was destroyed by forces beyond their control and the villagers were scattered.

Kong is blind. As part of the ritual process he was rendered unable to see at age five. There are a few things he can recall (colors, shapes) but anything after that he has no idea about. He can come off as cold and stoic upon first impression, especially since he won’t look you in the eye, but once you get past that prickly outer coating and get to the good stuff inside he’s really like a teddy bear. Loyal, humble, and proud he does his best to stick to his roots (and he’s gotten a bit partial to candy floss in the last few months but don’t tell anyone). To his friends his door (and probably his bed) are always open.

Jericho Wells - 40, Metal Elemental - Strong man in the 10-in-1, been with Zion 9ish years. Has a daughter Lizzy and a brother in Zion, his daughter is 9 and was born and raised in Zion (wife passed during birth). He’s a big man with a big heart that can sometimes be hard to get to through the stoic stubbornness. But it’s worth it if you try.

Fitz Killian (Du Terte) - 32, Shifter (will typo the name but he can do ferrets, stoats, badger and the like), works some of the games and food joints, been with Zion 5ish years. ‘Brother’ if Ben, he’s spent a lot of time in his tiny fur forms that he can seem off at times. He loves shiny things (really couldn’t tell you why but they make him happy), bring him shinies and he’ll be your friend. He’s very outgoing and loves to share stories (and get others to share theirs). Social butterfly here, flutter with him!!

Hello familiar and unfamiliar faces! I am Em and I bring in a new face for my first character here.

Meet Monsieur Benois Du Terte (pronounced Ben-waa cause, well, he's French), though most people just call him Ben. He's a bit of a familiar face around Zion Mystique, having joined 5 years ago alongside his 'brother' Fitz, he'll tell you that they left France because they got sick of it but the truth is they were kind of running from the law.

He's a fire elemental who works in the Ten-In-One as a fire eater/breather, although he does help out when it's needed. Forget about matches, if you need a light just find Ben.

He lives in a nice little wagon that he has made into a home, this he shares with Fitz (yeah, so not his brother) and in the confines of the Carnival they're sometimes seen sharing a touch or a hug after a long day/evening.

I'm currently on holiday in Morocco and starting Tuesday will be kind of flaky for like 2 weeks but once I get back to Australia you know I'll be diving in feet first!

Hello, I'm Charlie. I'm introducing you to Juliette d'Amboise. She's an 80-something nightwalker vampire who's had an EXTREMELY hard life. Carnival life isn't exactly what she'd been expecting to go into for the third time but she made a bit too much noise in her unlife. She's quiet, refined, but not necessarily properly educated though she does enjoy a good book. Her appearance is... tribal, wild, what someone imagined those heathen gypsies ought to look like while dragging in body modification rituals from whatever slaves they knew at the time. She is exotic despite being from a poor family in a small French village.

She is a "preys on shitty humans" type and generally lumps everyone in with them until proven otherwise. The definition of "shitty" varies from day-to-day. She has been with ZM for 9 years as a cootchie dancer, doing belly dancing, contortionism, and 'snake charming' along with turning tricks on the side as she sees fit. Never a headliner but always remembered.

Howdy there! I am BB!

Presently my two boys in the game include this dapper gentleman; Charles Renmont, the (unaware psychic-clairvoyant) trick shooting/stunt riding/gun slinging modern cowboy. Along with Professor James Henry Blackstone; the sorcerer/illusionist who creates of potions, magic trinkets, and all manner of wondrous things. Both have been with the Carnival for a bit, Charles for over two years now and the Professor for 11 years.

I'm looking forward to exploring this new game with you all! Feel free to drop me a line, and we'll see what plotty goodness can be created. :D

Hi hi, Meg here!

So far I've got Kieran here as an Angel/Ferris Wheel Operator/Medic/General Roustabout. Kieran can heal just about any injuries, you know in case there's like a loose animal or a misfired arrow, he's your guy. He lives in a wagon with Jack Kincaid and runs the medical tent after hours. He likes to joke, really loves to joke as much as he can because life is just so sad sometimes and he'd rather not think about it. One thing everyone always sees when they meet him is the slight glow to his blue eyes. This is part of his angel grace but can only be seen if you're close enough. I'd love anything really, he's been working for the carnival for a long time so he'd know a lot of the people who've traveled with them for a long time. Anyone who might have been healed from him at some point, other roustabouts, friends.

Edit: I’ve also got Ms. Jean Ramsey. Half sister to Nicholas St. James. Jean is a lion tamer and animal handler(mostly the felines). She is the opposite of her brother. She’s outgoing, flirtatious and a little bit of a kleptomaniac. Don’t worry though, she’s only interested in swindling the customers, not the fellow employees. She LOVES people and when she finds someone she wants to meet she does everything she can to make it happen. She followed the carnival all the way from Montana and has just begun to work there, so everyone is still fresh. I’d love anything for her but no one really knows her yet, not even her brother.

We have a great group of players and some awesome characters, I can’t wait to see what happens.

Just an FYI, the FAQ is frequently updated, but I will try to post new smaller changes to it on the discord server when it happens, and if there are any huge ones they will be seen on the OOC comm. Otherwise I’ll mention updates in the monthly updated bit. But feel free to look and if you have a question not there don’t hesitate to ask. I love unique questions, even if they force me to figure out stuff I’d never thought of before *cough*BB*cough*.

And to let everyone know; yes, there will be big plot stuff happening down the line. Most won’t be overly impactful or interrupt ongoing storylines (hopefully) and I’m more than willing to try to rope storylines into larger plots as well. Individual character lines you don’t need to get my permission (though a heads up would be nice just in case we can help), but if there’s anything that might impact the entire carnival just throw me a quick idea blurb (Dropbox or IM, doesn’t have to be official).

Also a reminder that the Carnival will be moving almost every month, so keep that in mind when making plans. All characters would expect to move to a new place (and know what that place is) at the first of the month. Just make sure you check the IC monthly update :).

Hey everyone! My name's Orion, and I currently have one character (working on a mage though, I'll add her when she'd done)

Right now - I've just got Nicolas, cervidae shifter and animal handler (and general labour as needed) who's been around for about six years now. He's quiet, not super big on talking about what he is (in the years he's been with Zion, he's avoided shifting on the grounds), and generally more comfortable not being the center of attention. Friendly, but not loud about it, and prefers hanging out with people he knows (likes or doesn't, doesn't much matter) or animals than humans or strangers.

Friends, maybe some predator shifter/were frenemies, and people he works with usually would be great!

Edit! Theo is now done as well. Local conwoman, cardshark and 'fortune teller', Theo's a magus that's been at the carnival for a little over a decade now. She runs her own tent off the Midway, and can also be found there pretty frequently, helping balance out where luck and chance cross paths. She'll drink you under the table, help you prank you friend, and do her best to look classy while doing it.

Friends, people that'll actually play her in cards regularly (and trust her not to cheat), people she regularly stops by on the Midway would all be awesome!

In anticipation of the game opening I thought I’d put my an intro :).

My name is Lexi, and here are my babies.

Eva - Vampire Nightwalker, Dancer. She’s been at the carnival about a year and works the ‘Dancing girl’ show (she shows her tits for money). She does do tricks for coin too- to those who can afford her. Eva loves humans in a way that a human loves a dog. She wants to take care of them and give them what they need (because clearly most can’t care for themselves). Of course from the outside she’s just a rare, nice vampire. Her Sire is her talker, she’s from Spain and they live on a wagon with blacked out windows.

- She would love anyone who wants to be a pet friend.

Kerr - Unknown Animal Telepath, roustabout. Everyone thinks she’s a he as she’s kinda in the run as an escaped convict (that part people know). This means that she’s not really been close to people, at least not more than friends. She loves hanging around the animal pens. (Sleeps there too)

- Friend? Someone who’s skeptical about how much of a boy she is (should only be one person if any).

Jack - Magi (Time and Space), Artist. He was born in the Carnival, been with Zion since he was 10. He’s been in a wheelchair since he was 10. Worked with him mom (who was a snake charmer) until she died when he was 21. Works at a stall painting portraits. Has a bit of an addiction to opioids (for pain). Is rooming with Kieran in his families wagon.

Reverend Conrad - Ghost Demon, talker for a few shows (open), Reverend. He’s a demon, but isn’t into the big destruction type of evil. He prefers the personable type. Sewing chaos among people with spilled secrets, lies, suspicions, betrayals. He likes to wander between Bally’s, whispering in peoples ears all sorts of paranoid thoughts and just watch a relationship crumble or friends fight. He tries his best to keep his manipulations to the rubes and townies and out of the Carny family (Else risk pissing off management, and no one wants to piss off Kristoph). He does hold something of a church on Sundays, it’s not completely a set denomination and more just reading from the Bible and a time for people to pray. He sleeps in a ‘room’ in one of the resident tents.

No, we are not open just yet. We are looking to open soon. Basically once we've got some characters applied and approved. I'm hoping by November 1st. Upon opening there will be a mod post setting up the location the Carnival is in.

I know joining a new game can be daunting and stressful sometimes (as well as exciting I hope), especially a brand new game, but I want everyone to know that I'm more than happy to help talk things through, answer questions, or what have you. I'm pretty open to new ideas, and in cases where an idea might not work with the 'rules' of the world, I don't like to just say no, I will always try to work with you to make an idea work, tweak it or come up with something similar.
