Who: Edward and Eva What: Going Out for a Bite When: Wednesday December 4th, night Where: Across the border into Mexico Rating: High, mentions of sex and death Status: Complete
If there was one thing that Edward enjoyed about winter it was that the nights were longer, depending on the month and where they were located it was anywhere from twelve to fifteen hours of darkness that allowed him and Eva the freedom to roam and enjoy their surrounds like anyone else. Often they’d go out, he dressed in his finest suits as always and Eva in one of her many beautiful dresses that either he had procured for her or that she had purchased with the coin from her dancing and tricks, that was unless they were able to go out hunting. They still wore beautiful garments compared to everyone else but they had learned long ago that dark colours such as blacks, dark greens and reds tended to hide any possible blood spots easier than most.
It was only a few days since their arrival in at Las Cruces, and they talked in the privacy of their wagon about going south into Mexico and seeing what was available that might satisfy their appetites, after all it was a different country and as they were nowhere near Zion it seemed like the ideal place to indulge while they could, who knew when they would next get the opportunity to do this. Dressed in his black shirt and trousers but deciding to go without this usual attire of waistcoat and cufflinks he waited for Eva, he was so proud of the vampire that she had become over the past few years, a task that had taken him much longer to master.
She’d had a good teacher. Eva was wearing a simple dark red dress with a large brimmed black hat. Despite the winter, she was dressed in a rather thinly layered dress- not needing to worry about getting cold. She stepped down from the wagon and slid her arm in Edwards. “Come cousin, I assume you’ve secured transport for us?” She asked with a polite smile.
Eva didn’t show it, but she was eager to go hunting. They hadn’t had a real good hunt in a while. Sure, Zion fed them animal blood on occasion (which she had under silent protest) and she had others she occasionally was able to feed from. But a nice hunt was something special.
He smiled when he saw her descending the steps of their wagon, it was no wonder she was so popular, he could never deny that she was beautiful and he did not shy away from expressing these views. "I have indeed my dear. May I say that you look ravishing tonight? I'm sure we will have a good time." They'd also never admit the reason for their outing, just that they were 'going into town'.
Leading her away from the wagons and through parts of the carnival they arrived at the area where the vehicles were kept, having secured use of one for a few hours. He had acquired the skill of driving pretty quickly and was not afraid to drive one of these machines to wherever they wished to go. Once in the automobile and away from Zion he glanced over at her. "I do love it when we get to hunt together."
Eva relaxed in the seat, she didn’t know how to drive, never learned and never had the inclination to learn. If Edward wasn’t there to help her then she could easily find someone else to give her a lift. “I do to. It’s been too long.” Of course she knew they had to be careful, after all they were technically still being pursued. Though, their time jumping around with Zion in the United States had definitely helped the hunters that wished them harm from locating them. Still, the wrong move in the wrong town and they could attract unwanted attention. But being careful didn’t mean they couldn’t have fun. It just meant they had to be alert. So going to Mexico to find a nice snack was a wonderful adventure.
“I can’t wait until we get back to some of the larger cities, it would be nice to visit some nice stores and maybe go to the theatre.” She’d grown up in a small town with very little desire in the finer things in life, but William- Edward- had pampered her and she found she liked nice things. She deserved nice things.
They followed the road into town and from there headed south, it wouldn't be long at all until they crossed the border into Mexico. "Should we each find our own or shall we find someone we could both feed from? Some degenerate that we drain dry." There were almost always those people who lived on the streets that no one cared about or missed, although they had to get crafty with them, cutting their wrists to make it look as if the person had taken their own life.
Taking a hand from the wheel he caressed Eva's hair. "Whatever you wish, my dear. A night at the theatre sounds delightful and you can always do with more dresses." Especially those that showed a hint of the beautiful body that was hidden below it, one that he knew well. "Some more of those beautiful silks in a rich burgundy would look so beautiful on you."
“Everything looks good on me.” She smiled, teasing- but also it was the truth.
Eva slid up next to him in the seat, a hand on his shoulder as she leaned on him. “You mean we can actually slaughter a stray from the herd?” She asked. “It’s been so long since we’ve given mercy and put a weak human out of their misery.” Yes, Eva had her pets. But her pets were special. They were beautiful, strong and unique. Other humans were mutts, trash, not worth the blood they had in their bodies. She smiled widely, those sharp teeth aching to bite into the flesh of a mortal. “I should have asked James to come along- he’s good at cleaning up messes.”
It was definitely the truth, Eva would make a flour sack look beautiful!
"We will see if there are any strays, it isn't as easy out here but we might get lucky." It was a bit easier when he lived through the better part of the war, putting dying men out of their misery and getting fed at the same time, the same with the bigger cities - drunks, addicts or those living rough with no real future in sight. "Another time maybe, tonight we'll just have to be discreet, leave no signs of ourselves on their corpse." If he hadn't needed both hands to drive he would have put an arm around Eva's shoulder as she leaned against his side, definitely not something cousins would do.
They did a lot of things cousins wouldn’t do. “I’m sure we’ll find some el gnomo.” She said sounding certain. Someone exiting a bar, or scoundrel who doesn’t know how to hold their tongue. “And it will give you some good practice with your español.” Though hearing it out of those so far separated from her wonderful Spain could be painful. Those who were lazier with their words. She was sure he felt the same way listening to some Americans speaking English.
Resting her head on his shoulder, she watched the land pass as they made their way across the border.
He had a good feeling about their chances for the night, even if they couldn't find an el gnomo there was bound to be someone that would provide them both with a tasty meal. "My español is a little rusty, although if they do not know we speak the language we might be able to find someone who doesn't know how to treat a lady." Although he had used women in the past for his own financial gain he refused to let anyone treat Eva in any less than a beautiful woman deserved. It did make Edward cringe sometimes when hearing Americans murdering his beloved English language, but it was something he had to get used to.
They drove along in silence and darkness, the comfort of Eva beside him welcoming until they reached a small town, there was some kind of bar/saloon which might be a good place to start. Turning the car off he pressed a kiss to the top of Eva's head. "Are you ready, my dear?"
Eva got out of the car and put her hat on, brushing her hand over her hair to ensure it was still up. Smoothing out her dress a bit she looked at him, hands out. “How do I look?” She asked, they always had to use each other to check themselves as mirrors were something they unfortunately were unable to use. “You…” She reached up and tucked back a loose strand of hair. “Perfect.”
“Shall I go in first? And you can come in and be my savior when some guy gets handsy?” Eva giggled at the idea.
Edward never complained about having to help Eva with her make-up, he thought of it as a privilege to be entrusted with the task and always made sure she looked as beautiful as he knew she was. He smoothed over the material around the shoulders and did up one of the small buttons. "You are ravishing my love!"
With both of her hands now in his he looked at the door before turning his attention back to Eva. "Sì, I shall follow you in a few minutes, I want to look around for an alleyway or something." Leaning forward he pressed a kiss to her lips. "Happy hunting."
She bit her lip slightly as they parted. “Si.”
Eva turned to the bar and prepared herself, careful to talk in that practiced way to not show her fangs, the smile that is just right. Entering the bar she took it in, no mirrors- good, the place had a small but decent crowd for the night. She caught the bartenders eye and he gave her a sideways glance, probably wondering why she was there alone. She moved to an empty table and took a seat, daintily folding her hands before her. Her Spanish complexion was paled, though she’d heard the comment that she’s not as pale as Edward was- or other vampires they’d met. As she sat there, she was approached and asked for her order. “I’ll take a glass of red.” She ordered in Spanish, not that she’d actually drink it.
As she sat there and waited for her order she glanced around, taking in the crowd. One man, looked like a farmer. His skin was tanned, fingers calloused and cracked from labor. He was younger, around her apparent age but he looked older. He smelled of liquor and had a lazy eye. It took everything not to gag just looking at him. As he approached her table he smelled of smoke and sweat and… human.
“Aren’t you a pretty flower. You’re not from around here, are you?” He asked.
Eva tried to smile a charming smile, but it was a bit thin. “No, I’m just visiting. Waiting for someone actually.” She replied. “I think he’s late.”
She had been there a while, running her finger over the rim of her untouched glass before he’d come over. “I think he’s not coming, you should do better.” He declared, clearly intoxicated.
Eva couldn’t help but laugh slightly, he seemed to be proud- as if he’d made a joke. “Oh, yes?” She asked. “And, I suppose you know who would be better for me?... I didn’t catch your name.”
The guy laughed. “I’m Julio. And you should let me get you a drink. I know how to treat a lady. And you look like a lady.” He leaned in close to her, his hand placing on her arm as if he was telling her a secret. “A really pretty lady.”
Edward had found a place not far from the bar where if Eva got lucky that they could dispose of the body of the unfortunate victim. He didn't want to rush, it wasn't like she was defenceless, Eva knew how to take care of herself.
Returning to the bar he was about to enter when he saw Eva talking to a man inside, he was big and healthy which meant that his blood would quench their thirst for longer than some weakling near death's door. He stood and watched, wishing that he could hear the conversation as Eva was clearly not amused.
Eventually he entered and walked right past Eva, all part of this little game of theirs, at least from where he was standing he could hear the conversation although his Spanish was rusty he understood enough and it took all of his willpower to stay where he was and let Eva do her thing, he did give her a nod when she looked in his direction to indicate that he had found somewhere if she thought this might be their meal for the night..
“Julio.” She said, his name rolling off her tongue. “Thank you. Your sweet.” And smelly and she swore his fingers were going to scratch up her skin.
“Oh, you’re so cold.” He said, pulling off his dirty jacket. “Here, here. Take it.”
Eva felt her skin crawl and glanced over to Edward with a look as Julio put his jacket around her shoulders. “You’re too kind, but I’m okay.” She tried to shrug him away, but he persisted.
“No, no. it’s okay. I’m hot, I don’t need it.” He said, trying to sound macho. “I can stand any cold, you should be warm.”
She pushed the glass away from her and reached into her small purse to pull out some money to pay for her drink. “I think I should go, you’re right. My date isn’t going to show.”
Her hand was brushed away as Julio took out his wallet and paid for her drink. “No, no. You shouldn’t have to pay because someone stood you up. Come, I’ll walk you to where you’re going. It’s not safe out at night. There are coyotes out there.”
Eva nodded and smiled, despite the detestation she felt as she just wanted to tear his throat open and put him out of his misery right there. “Thank you.”
The two of them walked to the door and Julio put his hand around her, low, on her rear. Eva shot a look over her shoulder to Edward- oh, the human was so dead.
Edward felt a similar kind of rage building inside of him when that cretin put his hand onto Eva's rear. As silently and unnoticed as he entered the bar he exited the same way, keeping to the shadows so that the man wouldn't realise what was going on.
He managed to slip past them both, just another person to anyone else but Eva would know to follow him, the area which he had found would be perfect, there were even broken glass bottles around that they could use to hide their fang marks. Eventually they reached it and Edward returned to the shadows.
She’d heard of vampires who could actually hide in the shadows- become them- in their travels, sometimes she wished she could. But then she’d heard they were quite unsightly and wouldn’t give up her perfection for any of it. As she followed the other vampire, the guy seemed to not realize she wasn’t really leading him anywhere and when she stopped in the alley he just smiled, thinking something was about to happen… that wasn’t.
Eva tossed his jacket aside with a shiver. “Disgusting.” She said. Julio looked confused. “Disgusting.” She repeated for him. “You are such a sad, pathetic piece of human trash, aren’t you? Look at you. Did you really think someone like me would find a troll like you attractive?” She laughed. It pierced the air as the human’s posture straightened, offended. Eva didn’t care. He could object or insult her back but she wasn’t listening to his words anymore. No, she could hear his blood pump as he got angry, heartbeat quicken with the slight adrenaline rush. She tilted her head at him. “I heard there are coyote’s in this area… would be a shame if one stumbled upon a poor, dirty, drunk farmer passed out in an alley.” She said, her words directed at Edward, Julio seemed confused at the English again, angrily speaking to her- it all sounded like static now.
Edward stepped out of the shadows, although the man was still facing Eva and shouting abuse at her. With lightning speed he closed in on the man, taking him in a headlock with a broken bottle held to his throat with the other hand. “That's no way to treat a lady!" His Spanish wasn't perfect but got the idea across.
Of course the man struggled but in his drunken state against a vampire he wasn't exactly that much of a challenge. "My love, do you wish to do the honours?"
She was normally very lady like when she fed, not a lot of mess, small bites, cleaned up when she was done, but that night she was hungry, angry and the human wasn’t worthy of a lady. Eva came in as Julio tried to fight back, confused. Normally, the nightwalker bite was pleasant. It felt like passion, pleasure. But that night, her bite was vicious. After all, they needed to make it look like an animal after all- right? Her teeth dug into his neck, tearing at the flesh. Skin hung loose as blood pulsed into her mouth.
She gasped slightly as the farmer’s struggle weakened and fell limp. Pulling back, blood covered her lips, chin, neck; her eyes seemed to glow with a primal rage as she took ahold of the body and pulled his head to the side so Edward could partake. “Oh Eddie… it’s so exquisito. Try some.” She offered, her tongue running over her lips.
The sight of her ripping into the man's neck made Edward feel proud, if he was human that sight might have even made him aroused. His beautiful Eva was such a bloodthirsty killer when she wanted to be and seeing her unleashed like this was so beautiful.
When she offered him the man's neck Edward bit into it, ripping and tearing at the flesh to make it look like an animal attack while at the same time draining as much blood as he could, knowing Eva would join him if she wanted more. "Eva… my love…" he said when he had drunk his fill.
She took in more of the warm life giving liquid and let the body fall when they were both done. Blood covered her, some on her dress, her hands. She reached out and brushed his chin with her thumb, he was just as covered as she was. “Oops.” Eva said, innocently. “I think we made a bit of a mess.” She felt full and her skin tingled with the excitement of the kill. She let humans live every day. Some actual freaks, others just plain. Very few were worthy of her attention. So to be able to cull the human race of a filthy rodent, it was wondrous.
Even covered in blood she was still beautiful, maybe even more so than when she wasn't. It was dark, the moon hiding under clouds and they could probably slip away without them or their blood splattered clothing and skin getting noticed.
"But it was worth the mess, you were such an animal and I'm so proud." He said, a thumb reaching out and brushing over those plump red lips. Stepping over the body he pulled Eva closer and pressed a firm kiss to those lips. He felt sated and there was a tingle on his skin, getting that bit warmer as the man's blood flowed through him.
Her arms draped around them as they stood over the dead body, making contact with their own. Eva ran her tongue over the corner of his mouth. “I had a good teacher.” She replied, her bosom covered chest pressing against him. “I wouldn’t want to hunt with anyone else.” She smiled softly with a hum.
She leaned back slightly, while still remaining close to him. A finger ran over his neck, she lifted some blood off and looked at it with a ‘tsk’. “Such a messy eater.” Eva laughed as she moved her finger to her mouth to lick the blood from it.
Edward hoped that he was the only one she'd want to hunt with, even if they met others like themselves there would always be that bond between them that was unbreakable. She always felt so good against him, that perfect body wrapped in his arms.
"He deserved it." Was all that Edward said, taking her hand in his and guiding that finger towards his own mouth, tongue darting out to taste it.
As much as she wanted to linger, she was clear headed enough to know the risks. “Let’s get out of here.” She said, taking his hand and leading him away, not caring that she was still quite messy.
They made it to the car without being spotted- it was still early for the bar to let out but late enough that there weren’t people out on the street. As they made their way out of town, Eva licked at her fingers before leaning against Edward as she had when they arrived, this time she brushed her lips over his neck. Once they were out of town and between civilization she whispered in his ear. “Pull over.”
Eva was definitely the more level headed out of the two of them, remembering the risks when Edward just wanted to ignore them, he was so grateful for her, she had kept him out of trouble more than once.
He drove along, there was not another car in sight, but who else would be out in the middle of nowhere at this hour. When Eva whispered in his ear he complied, pulling the car over to the corner of the road, wondering why she had wanted him to stop
Her body pressed against him, a hand moving over his chest. “We should probably clean up un poco before we get back.” Eva tossed her hat to the side as she arched her neck to him, exposing the red coating her collar. “Have any ideas on how?” She asked with a small pout.
"I do." He replied, turning on the seat so he was able to press his lips in an open mouthed kiss to the exposed neck, tongue darting out to lick at the blood before it had a chance to completely dry. "How is this?" He asked before moving further up her neck and at the front of her throat, the arm looped around her pulling Eva closer as he continued to clean her skin.
A light, airy laugh escaped her. Sure, sex was nice and could be enjoyable, but they were undead. There was something so much more fulfilling about the intimacy of a kill, and the feeling of someone who was your equal- someone you cared for deeply- sharing in that. “Don’t forget…” Eva reached up and slipped one of the sleeves off her shoulders, revealing more of her round breast. “I wouldn’t want any of Julio to go to waste.” Her fingers brushed through his hair as she leaned back in the seat, forcing him to practically be atop her.
This was better than sex, which he did enjoy when they had the opportunity or desire to partake in it, but this feeling he only got with Eva and he loved her more than anything else in the world.
As more of her breast was exposed, Edward cupped it with his free hand, pushing it up slightly so he could make sure it was clean too. But before he was able to Eva moved and he moved with her, half lying against her front as his mouth descended to kiss and clean that beautiful bosom.
“Mi amor,” She sighed, letting her head rest back, contented by his touch. “Do you ever think of just getting an estate somewhere? I can bring all my pets and we can bring people to us to hunt in safety. Live away from the vermin and have a perfect little family?” Eva asked, wistfully.
With that breast clean he slid the other sleeve further off her shoulder to expose more of the other breast to clean the blood off it too. He listened to her wistful dream. "One day… when we are rid of these hunters." They couldn't settle anywhere until that threat was neutralized.
He looked down at Eva, searching for any more blood while continuing to lick and kiss at any available skin because he didn't want to stop worshipping her beautiful body, not just yet anyway, they did have some hours of darkness still ahead.
Yes, the hunters who’d changed her life. Those who sought to end her Eddie’s life- and hers by association. “I wish we could just kill them all.” Of course, then there’d just be more of them- that was Edwards issue in the first place. “Or that they’d just die off on their own.” Which was probably what they’d have to do. She was barely a vampire and already looking to her next lifetime.
Eva hummed at his lips cleaning her, her hands playing with his hair. “You’re doing okay… right?” She asked, having a rare moment of selfless concern for another. He was one of the few people she cared about without getting something out of it. “I know I’ve been spending a bit of time with my pets…” She did consider them hers, though she would share with Eddie- and had when they were still in Spain. “I don’t want you to feel ignored.”
He hoped that if they were quiet long enough that those hunters that were after him would think that he had died or was no longer in America and they would be left alone and allowed to enjoy their lives without looking over their shoulders all the time. “They are like rats, always breeding and increasing in number, but for now I believe we are safe.” With Zion’s frequent moves it did make it hard for anyone to keep track of their movements.
He lifted his head for a moment to look Eva in the eye. “My dear, I feel anything but ignored. Your pets provide you with entertainment and the occasional snack but I know that you will always return to our wagon and to me.” Edward ran a hand through Eva’s hair comfortingly before burying his face between her breasts with a hum of contentment, it didn’t hurt to make sure that they were spotless.
She smiled softly with a small, light, chuckle, her fingers still playing with is hair. “Good.” Eva knew he had a few others he socialized with, though she didn’t think any had yet to reach a real bond of any sort with him. She did tend to see the potential in most better than he could. “Everything you’ve done for me.” Saved her life, taught her so much, made her a superior being. “You’re always the most important to me.”
He kissed between her breasts and then a line up to her throat where there was still a bit of blood that he had missed earlier. "You are the only thing in this world that brings me true joy, real happiness." A lick at another small patch just under her jaw. "To see you give into that primal lust, to rip his throat apart…" a soft hum, "it was the most amazing thing I've seen." He knew that his body wasn't too heavy against Eva but still he tried not to rest too heavily on her. Edward brushed their lips together. "Can you still taste him, love?"
“His pitiful life extends ours.” She replied, tasting the remnant of blood on his mouth. Eva then tilted her head, a hand cupping his cheek as she sensually licked at his chin and where he’d gotten spurts of the farmer. “I couldn’t resist. At first I almost felt sorry for the repulsive soul, ho hideous with no obvious redeeming factors.” She placed a kiss on the last bit of blood on his neck, he’d managed to not get as messy as her… probably because she’d served the killing bite and gotten the initial rush of blood. “Then… then he-” She scoffed and shook her head.
Edward didn't mind getting messy when the need arose but he also had many more years experience of how to kill without getting too dirty, a lesson that Eva was still learning. He tilted his head, letting her lick off the patches of red that stood out against his pale skin.
"I saw. A gentleman never touches a lady without her permission." Especially the way that cretin had, Eva had done well to show restraint at that moment, though maybe her time spent with the gents who paid for her… company had taught her some restraint, he knew some of them were just interested in themselves.
At least Eddie screened her tricks and kept to her standards as best he could. Those who were below tended to be overcharged. “And he thought he had a chance with me? Can you even believe?” She kissed at his lips once more. “At least he won’t be polluting this world with his icor any longer.” Eva slipped her arms over Edward’s shoulders. “And we did that… bettered the world…” She laughed. “Oh, I feel like I could take on anything now.” She felt an excitement, a charge from the kill. ‘Turned on’ but in a way that was more than the typical human response to endorphins. She almost wanted the hunters to confront them, she’d take them all right then. Granted she never considered herself a fighter. “Maybe we can go out again… Next night off?” She asked eagerly. “I’m sure there’s a farmhouse out here somewhere we can find where no one will be missed- at least not until we’ve been long gone.” Granted if they were to kill again it would probably be better to do so at the end of the month, but she wasn’t thinking that logically.
The world would be a better place without a man like that, in a way they were helping humanity by getting rid of those in the world who shouldn't be allowed to breed. It was almost a standard that the two of them had, but they did draw the line at children and mothers.
Edward was feeling the same rush, the blood now flowing through his veins made him feel like he could take on anything and win, it also made him want Eva in a way far from 'cousinly'. His hands moved down her sides to her hips. "Patience love, we shall wait until our last night here, by the time they find the body we shall have moved on."
“Fine, I’ll wait.” She said with a sigh and a playful smile. Eva did have patience, after all, it took patience to train a pet. “But you’re going to have to find some way to entertain me in the meantime.” She teased him, fang hooking on her lip before slipping back in her mouth. Her lips parted and her tongue ran over the tips of her teeth. “But you have to tell me what you’re going to do.” She said, placing a hand on his with a firmness that said ‘stop’. “You have to ask me if it’s okay.”
Oh, it wasn’t because she would reject him, it was just all how she kept in control. While she did feel that Edward and her were even in being, and he was elder in knowledge; she still liked to give orders. And if anything, it was practice for her pets.
"I am sure we can find ways to keep entertained between now and then." He grinned, his fangs showing clearly as she was one of the only ones he actually let see them, others might get a flash but only Eva got to see them fully. When her hand stopped his he glanced down at it then back at her. "Well… if it is okay with you I would like to kiss you all over, from the tip of your nose all the way to your toes. I want this feeling to continue well into the early hours of the morning." But of course if she said no than he would stop immediately, he would never force anything on her.
Edward loved that she still wanted control, he had heard tales about how some other vampires were completely submissive towards their sires, doing anything asked of them, but that was not Eva, she was too free spirited to cage.
Oh, she would do anything Edward asked of her. Anything. But, that didn’t mean she had to roll over. “I think I’d like that.” Eva pushed him back away from her, pulling her dress up as she slid a leg over him, sitting on his lap, facing him. She reached behind her and unbuttoned her dress, loosening the fabric enough to allow her to slip the top part off. It laid around her middle loose, exposing her chest to the open. Taking his hand in hers, she slid it up her leg, under the skirt of her dress to feel that she had gone bare that evening. “I almost expected you to throw me against the wall of the alley.” Though any commotion they caused could have brought a crowd.
He moved when she pushed him, sitting back against the seat of the car and watched as Eva moved to slide over onto his lap. His hands resting on her knees as she unbuttoned the top part of her dress and let it slip, his tongue licking at his lips as his eyes roamed that beautiful bare chest. He let her guide his hand under the dress, sliding it further up. A moan escaping as he felt she wasn't wearing anything, it excited him and having just fed his body was starting to react. "If we weren't standing over a freshly killed body I might have." But it wasn't worth the risk, they were now far enough away and alone that they could do anything now without the risks that the alley had posed. "What would you like me to do, my dear?" He asked, hand sliding up between her thighs.
Eva leaned in, lips close to his. “That hasn’t stopped you in the past.” She said with a chuckle.
------------------------------------------------------- About two years earlier - An alley in Spain -------------------------------------------------------
The wall was rough against her back as he pushed into her one final time. Her arms holding tight to his shoulders as her legs wrapped around her waist. He let her down as he put himself away. Eva brushed her hands down her dress, no longer pulled around her hips. Once decent again, she found herself contacting his lips once again, passion flowing through them as a freshly killed hunter lay at their feet.
“I suppose this means we’re going to have to leave town again.” She said, arm in arm with Edward as they exited the alley and moved down the street. “I was so looking forward to the opera Saturday too.” Eva sighed softly, her head resting on his shoulder briefly as they walked.
The thrill of a successful hunt was always exciting, more so now that he had Eva to share it with. Before it was just done in order to survive, fresh blood needed to sustain his existence but now, now it was more like the hunts that he remembered from his youth - that feeling of euphoria that made every nerve tingle. The fresh blood also meant that a dormant libido would sometimes get fired up as it had that night, resulting in their passionate lovemaking in the alley above the hunter.
“I am sorry my dear,” Edward said, any sign of their previous activities had vanished by the time they left the alley and down the street towards their lodgings. “I know it is something you wanted to see, the next city perhaps.” It did upset him slightly that this kill had ruined their plans for the week and that they would have to move on, but a dead hunter would attract attention and he couldn’t risk them getting caught.
And had they not killed him, he would have killed them- or tried. So they had little choice. “Pity too… he was quite pretty.” It had only been a few months since he’d turned her, and they’d been on the move for most of it, lodging for only a few days at a time. She was grateful to have him, even though part of her wondered and worried about her family from before. It was a strange feeling, she cared about them, but the more she socialized with other humans… she found them trivial. Occasionally one peaked her interest, but as a whole… she found herself less and less interested in what happened to them.
That was something that Edward had gotten over decades ago, that bit of humanity that hung around like a stench but it seemed like Eva was starting to get over it a lot quicker than he had. “It was him or us, you’ll learn that no matter how pretty they are they would kill us without a second thought.” A truth that she was learning - kill or be killed. He gave her a gentle squeeze and a kiss to the top of the head, looking just like any other couple who might be walking the streets at that hour of the evening. “Where did you wish to go from here? Shall we continue north into France?”
“They are still fighting in France.” She reminded him. “But if we do head north we may be able to stay with my tío, for a little while at least. Until we have to move again.”
They would not make it to his home, being diverted west before they could get there, and eventually making it to the United States.
--------------------------- Now - Arriving at Zion ---------------------------
Eva smiled as the passenger door opened and Edward held his hand to help her down from the car. She almost melted into his arms as they walked as one toward their wagon. “It’s a shame the night is almost over.” She sighed, feeling full and physically satisfied. “Thank you for taking me out.”
He was always a gentleman, especially for Eva. While Edward wasn’t one for those romantic notions of love in a way he did love her, in their own vampiric way. His arm was wrapped around her waist, holding her close to his side for their walk to their wagon. “It is a shame, we can continue until dawn and then sleep for a while.” Up the stairs of the wagon he held the door open, letting her into their space, excusing himself for a moment as he took the small bucket to get some water. When he returned he put the bucket down and put a cloth into it, one final clean down to ensure that they had cleaned off every spot of blood from their skin.
She stripped down and changed into her nightgown while he fetched the water. As he entered Eva pulled the pins out of her hair and let it fall about her shoulders. She’d had to get good at putting her hair up and reading herself by feel alone as her reflection was empty. Scrunching her hand in her hair, she smiled at Edward and put his clothes away once changed. Their wagon was very homey, for a vampires home. She moved over and sat in one of the chairs at the table small table that could fit three comfortably and picked up the deck of cards that laid upon it. “How about we play some Gin until we get tired. Maybe you’ll finally beat me?” Or he’ll play to win and not give the game to her as he oft to do.
Edward cleaned himself off the best he could with the water, it didn’t bother him that it was cold, hot or cold didn’t matter to him any more. Not being able to see his own reflection he had learned to do it by feel alone, looking across and getting a nod from Eva which told him he had gotten it all off before changing into his night clothes. “A few games and then we might retire, I would be happy just to lie there curled up with you.” A way to wind down after the frenzy of their night out.
