Jericho’s Speech
The large man stood up and gathered everyone’s attention. He appeared a tad nervous- but after a moment he took a breath and started to speak. “As most of ya know, I’m not really one for speeches. More a man to do than talk. But today I’m gon’make an exception.”
Jericho’s fingers ran over the rim of his glass as his eyes landed on his daughter who was beaming support at him. “I met these two years ago, near right after I lost my Nora. Wasn’t sure what to make a’them at first, but they stuck Ben in the ten with me, so figured I at least had t’try t’be civil.” He smirked slightly. “Turns out th’fire guys not a half bad performer. Started near the end but has been working t’take the top spot from me.” Jericho turned and looked at Ben with a shake of his head. “Never gonna happen.”
Turning back to the guests he shrugged. “I knew there was more to them, never looked at my brother they way they do. But they wasn’t hurtin no one and Fitz helped my Lizzy learn how ta sew and stuff so they’s good people in my book- and I’ll defend that to anyone.” The threat to those who didn’t agree was clear. “So, anyway, I just wanted ya say congratulations, ya two are finally hitched. Honor to be apart of it and y’r an example a true love we should al be so lucky ya find.”
