February plot post
When: 2/1, early am right before the teleportation
Other: Comment with your characters reactions
It was late, the Carnival was packed, all loose items stowed and all its people were starting to retire to shelter. Laughter could be heard coming from one of the trucks where people had gathered to ensure they’d not be left behind in the teleport. There was still a bit of time- but most took precautions. Kristoph, himself, was in his wagon, reading things. A familiar tingle raised the hairs on the back of his neck. “Hello Edi. Yes, we’re almost ready, you can shut down the lights.
Strand by strand. The lights all turned off, only a few candles remained flickering in wagons, the red heat of a cigarette. Just as the teleportation spell was initiated (it typically took a half hour to charge before completing), a loud crashing sound echoed through Zion.
Kristoph races outside and past the wagons until he saw it, the Eli lay on the ground, and a mass of cloaked figures stood upon its metal beams. There appeared to be five, but the darkness and auras around them made it hard to get an accurate count. A handful of others came out into the midway, the commotion alerting them.
“Who are you? This place is protected! Vacate now and we’ll not have an issue.” Kristoph called out to the figures.
the following all happens simultaneously.
——
Paul, Louis and Cloaky #2 and #4
——
Louis came when he heard the noise, a quick nod to Paul beside him. He heard Kristoph give a warning and two of the figures seemed to charge at his boss, and friend. Anger welled up and he yelled Paul’s name before his skin tore and split, transforming into the large bear, his ire focused on the cloaked figure made him see red. His mind went rabid, but his focus was clear, the dark figure was a threat. He lept at him, and momentum carried him and the figure to the far side of the wheel. He landed with a thud and heard a similar one beside him.
The sounds. Metal grating the ground scraped upon the inner parts of his ears. He’d rushed over to find the source and while he had seen a lot of things, what those blue eyes beheld was a mystery. It was times like these Paul prayed to have the change come upon him the way Louis could - and yet he was glad the wolf was abated.
He owed Kristoph. That much he knew and he would die to protect the man who was much like a father to him. The man who had taken him in as a broken monster. Trusted him. Paul’s lips pulled back from his teeth, bearing them as he changed and charged alongside the large bear.
Back paws dug into the dirt, and it would recklessly tackle the gorilla, the momentum carrying them forward. With all of the power it could muster it still felt as if it lacked the upper hand. A roar would be emitted, nearly deafening and filled with the anger it felt. Every jab, every swing of a paw was missed. Deflected. It hit only air as if the figures expected its movements. But it landed a hit here and there on the gorilla and felt a bit of triumph.
When the fight was over, much too soon, Paul lay on the ground on his back breathing heavily. He mustered a roll over onto a side and crawled toward Louis to check for damage.
Exhausted, spent, he passed out.
——-
Jack, Cloaky #3 and Edi (Brief Kristoph)
——
Jack heard the noise, and having not yet gotten into his wagon, he ventured into the midway. It was quite a shock to see the Eli on the ground, strangers upon it with Kristoph standing there confronting them.
One of the figures seemed to half glide, half jump down from the fallen wheel near him and pulled an item from his cloak. Static filled the air around him. “No…” he heard a voice cry on the air, in his head. “Help!”
Jack looked around but no one else was there. A blue streak of electricity shocked through the air across his vision and collided with the metal wires atop of jar. “No!” Jack yelled as he held out a hand. He instinctively tried to freeze or slow the time around the jar, reverse it maybe to release the electricity. The image of a young woman in a Victorian dress flashed in his head. She was crying and seemed desperate for help.
The Carnival owner looked over and called out, “Edi!” As he started to rush the cloaked figure he was struck.
Edi? Jack looked at the electricity, the voice, the image… Edi? “No!” He cried out again as he tapped into the convergence of leylines he sat in. Wings flowed out of his back, iridescent strings flowing and entwining with his chair. For a moment Jack felt pulled out of time. It was as if he could see his spell swirling in the air around him as he tried to stop, freeze, half the man before him. Maybe if he sped up the entropy on the jar, cause it to age and decay so Edi couldn’t be trapped. But his spell tangled, a larger spell was going on around him, it was all encompassing.
Jack tried to focus his, release it, do anything he could to keep away from the other energy around him. He felt himself floating in a void, time passed around him, around Zion. It was like he was looking down on everything. Time passed around and Zion remained in a bubble. The world around faded away, the location changed but time kept passing. Swamp land changed to support the Carnival, water drained and dry dirt remained.
Jack felt himself snapped back, pulled back into his body and it felt like a bubble popped around him. Color drained out of his face as he went pale and his body slipped limply out of his chair and to the ground. Alive, but unconscious and physically drained.
The man in the cloak laughed as blue lightning danced inside the jar, before anyone else could interfere with him, he and his cohorts were just… gone.

Kristoph, Cloaky #1 and Cloaky #5
———
“Edi!” Kristoph called out, he started to rush at the figure but the one who’d been center to all held a hand out and a wave of cold snow flurries flew his way. They slammed into him. The older man fell to the ground. Steam started to rise from his body as the snow melted and he stood up. “Get out of my-“ His words were muted. Looking down, Kristoph saw the steel in his chest a moment before it retreated. Blood flowed out of his chest and he fell to the ground.
——
A new place
——
The invaders retreated, bodies lay across the grounds. Two were’s slowly coming down and transitioning back to their human selves- unconscious. A Magi toppled from his chair, limp string wings flowing from his back. A leader, father to this family lay bloody and unresponsive. The young red headed clairvoyant, in tears, ran onto the scene, shooing anyone and everyone away from his body. Someone embraced her as she screamed to let him alone as others tried to move him- finding his body too hot to touch.
Kristoph’s body alit in flame, heat pushed the crowd away as Abigail buried her face in someone’s chest. Once the body was burned to completion Abby found Ben and grabbed his hand to help. She had him lift something from the ashes and they hurried off to the management wagon.
Meanwhile, Delia took a breath and started giving direction, it was late but things needed to get done. Most people she dismissed, told them to get to bed- set up still needed to happen in the morning. She got all those fallen to the med tent with help, and asked a few roustabouts to help with security until they could get a full assessment in the morning.
Where things stand.
Paul, Louis and Jack are all in the infirmary.
