TIME UPDATE

Day 35.

Weather: It’s a steamy 88°F during daylight hours, though temperatures drop into the low 70s after sunset.

Events: Around 9 AM, our subjects awake in an unfamiliar living room. Tobias, Madison, and Oliver have the luxury of each being put on one of the couches, and Chase, Avram, Lennon, and Marco have been put in chairs. Everyone out is simply sprawled out on the floor. All the windows and patio doors are open, and several fans are going, creating a pleasant breeze; despite all of that, most of the subjects wore layers to bed and they’re all going to come to regret that pretty quickly. Yesterday they were in Mount Zenith, with temperatures ranging in the 40s and every indication that winter wasn’t that far off. Today, well, who the hell know where they are, but it’s an extreme climate change.

Everyone is wearing precisely what they were wearing at midnight last night, and both Neptune and Hathaway are there too, though Hathaway is in a bucket. The group will all begin to wake at the same time, and while initially groggy and disoriented, that fades away rather quickly. Some individuals might feel stiff or sore (particularly those that woke on the floor), but it’s nothing unbearable. Once everyone is awake and people are starting to stand and move, an announcement plays through a speaker on the wall. For the first time, the voice they hear sounds to be legitimately human. In the past, any recorded announcements were delivered by a robotic, artificial voice. This voice is female, with a muddled accent that could be… well, it’s hard to say. It’s not American, and while there are British hints, there are more layers to it. The stresses and emphasises are not what you’d hear from a native English speaker.

“In recent days, we have seen a change in behavior. More and more, it seems to us that some of you are accepting that, while you are not happy with the experience, it is preferable to make the best of your situation. We appreciate that. You were told once, in the very beginning, that this experiment could be more pleasurable for you if you accepted your strange circumstances. We hold to that.

A week ago today, the majority of your numbers came together in a house meeting to put forth ideas, and suggest practices that might make daily life in Mount Zenith a more comfortable routine. One of those ideas was to adopt your own timeline; to pick a calendar date and go forward with it. Today, we wish to commend this attitude. We have decided to reward you as a group with a holiday away from Mount Zenith.

Welcome to Villa Vértice. You will be staying here for several days, and tomorrow, you are invited to attend a Halloween party that we will cater. At this time the party grounds are off limits to you, but you may explore the villa and enjoy yourselves in the meantime. Those who desire to celebrate will find costumes in the basement.

Yesterday, you were all informed that some among your number would be rewarded or punished. Tobias, Madison, Oliver, Avram, Lennon, Chase, and Marco: as your reward, each of you have been given a private room and bathroom. Tobias, as our winner, you have use of a private guest house separate from the house you stand in now. Those of you that are to be punished have been assigned a room-mate. Because Aspen, Gemma, and Erran chose to participate even knowing they didn’t have to, they will receive lesser prizes. Aspen has a private room, but no private bath. Gemma and Erran have been assigned a shared room, but they have a private bathroom. Everyone else will have to use public and communal bathrooms.

The room assignments are: Aspen, in bedroom 1, located on the first floor. Gemma and Erran, bedroom 2, first floor. Jack and Daphne, bedroom 3, first floor. Kiley and Pam, bedroom 4, second floor. Avram, bedroom 5, second floor. Lennon, bedroom 6, second floor. Oliver, bedroom 7, second floor. Georgie and Edwin, bedroom 8, second floor. Cecilia and Owen, bedroom 9, second floor. Kate and Damon, bedroom 10, second floor. Father Jim and Juno, bedroom 11, second floor. Madison, bedroom 12, second floor. Marco, bedroom 13, second floor. Chase, bedroom 14, second floor. Tobias, guest house. All bedroom doors are marked and labeled, and have a small scanner on the locking mechanism. You will have to scan your subject bracelets to be granted access to the proper rooms. Your luggage has been placed in your assigned room.

Please enjoy your stay.”

Okay. Well. The good news is, they’re not being separated! The bad news is, some people are going to see more of each other than they’d perhaps care to otherwise. Of course it’s possible certain individuals will say ‘oh hell no’ and work out other sleeping arrangements, but the door scanners will make that at least slightly inconvenient. Some may also notice that Juliet is nowhere to be seen, and her name wasn’t mentioned in room assignments. At any rate, as far as punishments go, it could have been a lot worse.

Did strange accent lady forget to mention that each room has only one bed? Oh. Shit. Well, they’ll find out soon enough. The villa is at least luxurious an beautiful, so it shouldn’t be too hard for people unhappy with their assigned room to find some place better to hang out. They might be in for another surprise though: that lady wasn’t kidding when she mentioned ‘communal’ bathrooms. Each of the four public bathrooms has four toilet stalls, and a communal shower equipped for four people. There’s also a very respectable supply of both sunscreen and condoms in each bathroom (even the private bathrooms), so, you know. Stay safe.

In each bedroom, the subjects will find their suitcases waiting exactly how they had packed them. In the closets and chests of drawers, they’ll also find a limited supply of clothing in their size, more suited to the tropical climate. A good 80% of it is swimwear, but there’s at least one or two outfit options for those who brought nothing else that could be worn comfortably in this environment. And there are other goodies waiting in each bedroom, too. Every person finds a small gift basket with their name on it waiting on their assigned bed. Inside is an old-fashioned polaroid camera, plenty of film, and best of all: a laptop, connected to the network. Now they can access the network anywhere they like!

Oh, but one more thing. Of the three remaining participants of Experiment B, only Madison is able to access the feeds, or spy on the network. Daphne and Damon do not have ExB status on their new laptops.
