The doctor had been gone for most of the day. Unlike other times when he disappeared, he hadn't been in a meeting with Mr. Smith or, for that matter, even on base. He wouldn't tell Gunner where he was going, just woke up that morning, took a shower, got dressed in his usual not quite clean or pressed clothes, and disappeared out the door. He came back just before supper time, dropping his keys on the table near the door and stepping out of his shoes.

"Honey, I'm home. It's rainy and cold outside and I'm cranky and wet so dinner had better be ready!" Unzipping his coat, he tossed it over the back of a chair, holding a box with a ribbon around it.

Gunner was rather perplexed as to where the Doctor might have gone. It wasn't usual for him to be gone all day long, without saying where he was going! But since the Doctor wasn't around to ask, he just went about his daily business. Now that he was taking pre-med, he had classes in the morning, and the early afternoon. And then he had come back to base to do all of his chores in the Medlab and check on the Experimentals.

Around suppertime, with no sign of the Doctor, he had gone up to their room to put together some supper. He had been poking around online, looking for different recipies, and had decided tonight on honey garlic meatballs and brown rice and vegetabkes. Which actually wasn't too difficult, he found, and when the Doctor returned, supper was just about ready.

"It is. Or will be. In five minutes!" Gunner called out over his shoulder. "Where have you been?"

"You don't want to know. Come here, I have a present for you." He took off his suit coat too because it was damp and went forward to meet him in the kitchen. He could smell dinner much more easily the closer he got and right about now, with nothing but half a sandwich and a glass of bourbon in his stomach, it was the most delicious smelling thing he could imagine.

	"A present? For me?" Gunner turned the heat off the rice and then turned around to see the Doctor. He grinned up at him and then his eyes darted down to the box that the Doctor was holding, with the bright red bow. "What is it?" he asked, holding out his hands. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	"Open it and find out." He encouraged and passed it off to him and then went to go sample what Gunner had been working on. His smile grew as he found a meatball, stabbing it with a fork. Inside the paper and ribbon would be a nice, shiny stethoscope engraved S.Bishop on the side. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	Gunner tore the paper off, and the ribbons, letting both drift down to the floor, forgotten, as he opened up the box to see what was inside. He tugged out the stethoscope, and ran his fingers over the smooth surface. "It's pretty," he said, looking a bit quizzical. "But it's got your name on it!" (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	"Yeah, one second." He swallowed, leaving the fork in the sink, and on his way to the kitchen table he took Gunner by the shoulders and pulled him closer. "Come here," he murmured and kissed him, folding his assistant up in his arms to hold him near. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	Gunner pushed himself up on his toes to make it easier to match the kiss, and his arms slipped around the Doctor's neck, quite happy to put the food on hold for a moment or two in lieu of kissing! (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	"Pumpkin pie," Gunner replied. "I didn't make it. I got it on my way home from school." Pie was a bit beyond him still, but he had popped into the market to pick up some vegetables for supper and had seen the pie and had to buy it! (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	Gunner laughed and grinned up at him before he turned back to the stove, turning off burners and putting everything together on plates, a pile of rice, with meatballs on top, and vegetables off to the side. 	"Okay!" Gunner disappeared into the kitchen, grabbing a beer for the Doctor and some pop for himself and returned to the table, sliding into a seat. "School's going good! 	"My grades are really great!" Gunner told him. "You know, we don't get report cards?" Which meant he had nothing to bring home! But he did really well on his assignments and tests, especially in Biology, which he was acing. "I know a few people. I think some people think I'm weird, but I don't care."
