Thread: Gunner & Dr. Bishop
Who: Gunner Crawley and Dr. Bishop.
When: August 8th. Afternoon.
Where: Medlab, where else?
What: Working in the lab!!

Ever since Dr. Bishop had said those three magical words two weeks ago, Gunner had been on top of the world. He had been completely and utterly happy, smiling in his crooked way all the time, humming absently to himself, and just generally being in a very good mood.

It also upped his work ethic, if that was even possible. Apparently it was! He became even more efficient and more focused on his work (despite the humming) and did everything he was told.

That afternoon he was standing at one of the counters in the Medlab, dressed in his labcoat as always, carefully working with some blood that he had drawn from Number Three at lunchtime. He was transfering samples into smaller vials with various chemicals in them to do some tests, and was also preparing some smear slides, for examination, and also for storage, to be compared to those that came before, and those that came later.

Unlike his assistant, the doctor's behavior hadn't changed much despite what had transpired between them. He was still cranky at times and snarled at Gunner for no reason but in the end they always went home together and slept together and woke up together.

While Gunner worked with the blood, the doctor was fooling around on the computer. He'd figured out when three's due date was and since then had been trying to figure out all the tests he wanted to preform on the child in the different stages of its life. This could, after all, be a once in a life time opportunity and he didn't want to squander it.

Turning away from the screen on his swivel chair, the doctor looked humming, happy Gunner over slowly. He leaned back in his chair, folding his hands over his middle as he crossed one ankle over the knee of his other leg. "What are your plans tonight?"

Gunner finished another slide, gently placing a slip cover over the smear and then labelling the edge of the slide before he placed it carefully in his case. He turned then, following the Doctor's voice, although he knew just where the older man was sitting.

He smiled.

"I don't know, I hadn't thought about it, you know?" he said with a little shrug of his shoulders. "Why, what do you want to do?" He assumed they would be spending the evening together, as they generally did, unless the Doctor had meetings or something to do that Gunner simply couldn't be there for.

"When can we do the test for the first time? The thing with the needle. The amnio?"

"Don't worry about Three and the tests, please." The doctor rolled his eyes. Gunner was so excited about that, and with good reason since it was his project with his operative.

"I think you should go out, do something with friends. You have friends besides me, don't you?" They were together a lot and the doctor didn't mind, at least not at that moment, but sometimes he just needed to get away. Hanging out with Gunner was fine most of the time but there really was quite an age difference and he didn't want Gunner to be left alone if something happened and they weren't together anymore.

"Alright," Gunner agreed, because as always, he trusted Dr. Bishop's judgement in all manners. Especially those relating to the lab and experiments.

He started to tidy up what he was doing, now that the slides were complete, putting things into their proper places, slide box into storage, blood tubes in a rack in the fridge. "I have friends. I have Eddie - did you know that he's engaged?" he asked over his shoulder before he closed the sample fridge. "And Koty is nice." And he and Killian had a weird sort of sometimes-friendship. Sometimes fighting when Gunner had to give him shots, but sometimes friends when Killian wanted company.

"Why? Are you doing something tonight?"

"No, I'm not really doing anything." Which really didn't seem to explain much. He had heard the news that Eddie was getting married, the whole Project knew, but that didn't make it any less ridiculous in his mind.

"Just to let you know," The doctor added casually as he got out of his seat, stretching his arms over his head, "I won't be attending Eddie's wedding or the reception so if you're going you're going to have to go on your own."

	"Why not?" Gunner asked him curiously. He took a chair and pushed it up near where the Doctor had been sitting, and flopped down in it. "Don't you like weddings? I don't know if I do, I've never been to one." He folded his hands across his stomach. "Well if you're not doing anything, then why are you telling me to go and do something?" he added. "It's ridiculous, that's why I'm not going." The doctor answered and went to make himself a cup of coffee, adding a bit of non-dairy creamer to the bottom of a mug. "They're too young to get married, besides, I'm not friends with either of them."

He measured out coffee grounds and dumped them into a clean filter before starting up the machine with the push of a button and then turned to look at him again. "I think you should do other things besides hang out with me."

"How do you know they're too young?" Gunner asked him, eyes following him as he moved across the room. "Lots of old people get divorced, so many young is better." He knew nothing about marriage except the basics. He thought it was cute, though, that Eddie and Dameon were getting married.

"Can I have a cup?" he asked of the coffee before adding, "Why? I like hanging out with you the best. Why would I want to do other things?" He did, sometimes, hang out with Eddie, or Koty, but he wanted to be around Dr. Bishop most of all.

"They're stupid kids." The doctor took out a mug for Gunner and then turned to him with the creamer in one hand and sugar in the other. "They don't know what they're doing let alone about being married. It's kind of a joke, really....like a freak show. I bet Eddie will wear a dress."

He cleared his throat, not quite sure how to answer Gunner's next question without hurting his feelings. "It's important to be able to spend time alone."

	"Eddie would look pretty in a dress," Gunner said with a smile. He shifted his chair over to the Doctor's desk so he could check his email, glancing up when the older man spoke. "Oh. You want to have some alone time?" He considered this. Gunner knew that Dr. Bishop had had a whole lot of alone time before Gunner had come into his life. "Well. Okay. Sure." "Really?" The doctor was surprised and didn't bother to hide this fact although he turned to pour their cups of coffee once there was enough in the pot. "I'm surprised." Maybe he shouldn't have been. The doctor brought Gunner a cup and set it down in front of him, leaning over to kiss the top of his head. "And I sincerely hope you aren't harboring any weird secret fantasies of me ever wanting to get married."

"You had a lot of alone time before I came," Gunner said, voicing what he had just been thinking. "You probably need it." They spent an awful lot of time together, and everyone needed to be by themselves now and again.

He took the mug of coffee and wrapped his hands around it, the warmth creeping into his hands. He grinned a bit. "I can't see you getting married, you know?"

"Good, I'm glad." He'd done that before and it hadn't ended well. Thankfully, he'd been able to sever himself completely from that relationship with a definite finality. He definitely didn't have to worry about any ex wives popping up. He slid a hand down the back of Gunner's head and around over his throat, tipping his assistant's head back against his stomach so he could lean over and kiss him.

"So you'll find something to do without me?"

	Gunner set his coffee down quickly so he could put his full attention of kissing the Doctor, head tilting back as their lips met. He was grinning when it broke. "Yeah, I'll find something to do." He was fairly easily amused, so it wouldn't be too hard. "What are you going to do? Or is that top secret?" he asked. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	Gunner just continued to grin up at him. "I don't know if that's very exciting," he said, resting back against the Doctor. "Top Secret is more exciting." He reached for his coffee again and took a sip, holding it in his lap. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	"I do," Gunner agreed with a bobbing nod of his head. He sucked back another mouthful of coffee. "That's not a bad thing. Now you have help." He had Gunner to do all the menial work that he might not want to do. "I think I'll watch a movie," he said thoughtfully, trying to decide what he might want to do with himself. "Does he know we're living together?" Gunner asked. Well, probably. Mr. Smith probably knew everything that went on in the base, whether it was told to him or not, but Gunner was curious as to whether Dr. Bishop had said anything about it to him.

"I was thinking the new one. G.I. Joe. I used to have some of those when I was little." He had enjoyed melting them on the barbecue and planning death scenes for them.

	"I'm sure he knows. And I'm sure you'll have fun." G.I. Joe. He was very glad they had agreed to spend the evening apart, he couldn't imagine sitting through that. He set his coffee cup down again.
