Thread: Three & Four
Who: Byron and Annie (aka Number Four and Number Three). Plus Gunner and Dr. Bishop later.
When: July 21st. Suppertime.
Where: Cell.
What: Some news. A move.

Number Four was stretched out in the corner of the cell, sitting on the floor with his back to the wall. His eyes were on the bed, where Number Three was currently sleeping, sprawled out because he didn't want to move her and end up waking her. Which was why he was currently sitting on the floor.

He drew his legs in until he was sitting cross-legged, wondering about the time. It felt like suppertime, if only because he was getting hungry. The food had been better in the past week - Annie had been right. It hadn't been too difficult to convince the weird little assistant that they needed better food, that it would make them more agreeable.

He wondered what it would be on the menu that night. Food was becoming one of the more interesting parts of the day, now that they were being fed different things. It was vastly preferable. That, and having company. Byron had found that he really liked having another person around, that he liked having Annie around, even if it wasn't an ideal situation at all.

It had been an exhausting week. Gunner, it seemed, was determined to make his experiment work and Annie had seen so much of of Byron lately she was beginning to joke with herself that when they were apart it was because he had gone to work and not just moved to a different cell. It kind of made sense, they were forced to make a family, and most of all, she liked Byron too. He was surprisingly intelligent and a good conversationalist. He could make her laugh and his reluctance, because of her reluctance, when it came to baby making had earned her sympathy.

She had been resting peacefully in her shirt and underwear since they'd just finished a nap ago, covered by a sheet since blankets were just too hot after that much activity. It was a peaceful moment but one that ended thanks to her own internal clock. It was nearly dinner time, nearly drug time. She woke up and stretched out until she squeaked and then rolled over to face Byron, smiling at the sight of him. "I think its your sex that puts me to sleep," she teased with a smile.

"I have that effect on people," Byron replied with a little smile. He was starting to feel antsy, wanting the drug that his body so desperately craved. Annie was good for that too, he had found - she was a distraction. Just talking to her helped ease the strain a little bit.

He picked himself up off the floor and walked across the cell - something that took only a couple steps - and sat down on the edge of the bed. "So, what do you think it will be tonight for supper?" he asked, toying with the blonde locks of her hair. "I'm hoping for lasagna. I miss lasagna. I think I remember what it tastes like."

"Italian, huh?" She smiled at him, pulling a pillow into her lap and trying to recall the taste of it on her own. She probably had more luck than Byron since she had been there and under the influence of the drug for a much shorter span of time. "I want some comfort food too. Meatloaf and mashed garlic potatoes sounds good."

"Mmm, that would be good," Byron agreed. Anything that was rich in flavour would be good with him, proper solid food. Comfort food. Maybe dessert as well. Dessert was not something he'd had anything of the past year he'd been in captivity in the cells. Desserts weren't necessary for maintaining health, after all.

"Cake, I want cake too." Cake was good, he remembered that. He leaned back against the wall and closed his eyes halfway as another wave of pure need for the drug ran over him.

"I want Oreo cookies!" She watched him for a little while before slipping out of bed, finding her pants and pulling them on. "Oreo cookies and a big glass of two percent milk. Or a Snickers bar." Smiling, Annie crawled towards him, reaching out to straighten his hair with her fingers. "Both those things sound good."

"What I think we need is an entire buffet. All the foods we could possibly want, laid out before is in a spread." Four sighed, because he knew that was a pipe dream, but a smile played as Annie's fingers played through his hair. After some initial awkwardness they had become quite close. It was a much better solution than continuing to be awkward around each other.

He glanced up when he heard the lock and the door twisting, tensing slightly. He knew who it was, but he still didn't like it. He watched warily as the little weird assistant came in.... without any food. Byron frowned.

Annie looked over her shoulder at him, looked him up and down, and was glad she'd put on some pants. He didn't have food and she didn't see the drug, which was really annoying. If he wasn't going to bring either why was he even here. "What do you want?" She asked, turning around properly to face him.

Gunner did have the drug, tucked in his pocket, but he wasn't ready to give it to them yet. "It's time to move you!" he announced with one of his skewed grins, looking pleased, because he thought it was good news.

"Move us where?" Byron asked suspiciously, sliding a hand to the small of Annie's back.

Gunner ignored him and cotinued on. "Dr. Bishop will be here in a moment, to knock you out. Because you can't know where you're going!"

"Where are we going?" She slipped out of the bed and moved towards him, lowering a hand to cover her stomach suspiciously. "Has something changed? Are we going to be together?"

"You'll see!" Gunner replied with that same smile. "You're going to be together." He peeked out the door and saw the Doctor coming. "They're ready!" he announced, and when Dr. Bishop came in, he went out to get a wheel chair so they could cart the soon-to-be unconscious captives. Dr. Bishop knocking them out with his ability was easiest, because it wouldn't affect certain growing new people, and they could be woken up again when they got to their destination.

The doctor was a much different adversary compared to Gunner and Annie backed away towards Byron as he entered. Instead of cowering behind him though, she stood slightly in front of him as if to protect him herself. At least they would be together.

The doctor smiled at Gunner as if they were sharing some big secret and put a hand on top of his head. "Good job." He turned towards the pair of them. "Don't look so frightened. It's like an upgrade." All it took was one touch to put them to sleep. Once you knew your way around them the doctor thought the human brain was rather easy to manipulate.

Gunner came back with the wheelchair. They loaded Annie in first, because she was the most important (and his personal favourote, of course!) and took her to the destination, before coming back for Byron to do the same.

It had been decided that, since Annie would be pregnant (it hadn't been a matter of 'if', but when, especially when all the fertility tests came back very promising), that she would need better accomodations. More room would make for a healthier and less stressful life, which would lead to a healthy baby! And company would make her more content, hence Byron coming as well. Plus, when she got very pregnant, she would probably need assistance.

One of the rooms had been converted. It was much like the others in base, with a kitchen, living area, bedroom and bathroom, but with motifications. There were hidden camers everywhere so they could be monitored from the lab computers. There was also a monitor outside the room (password protected of course so only the Doctor and Gunner could know what was going on in the room) so they could make sure all was well before entering. There were no windows, no way out of the room. The kitchen had been stocked with food, some clothes were in the bedroom, and there was a hodge-podge of books on a shelf (an odd collection, picked out by Gunner) as well as a tv.

When the pair were transported, they were moved to the sofa. "I think they're ready to be woken!" Gunner said excitedly.

"Do you think they'll appreciate it?" The doctor asked as he surveyed the surroundings. Gunner had really put a lot of work into it, it was something the doctor didn't help much with on his own since it was Gunner's project. He was hopeful about the state of Three's womb though and while he couldn't be one hundred percent sure she had been fertilized, he was nearly sure. He woke them up one at a time although they would be groggy for half a minute or so, as if coming out of a heavy sedation.

Byron had been halfway through a sentence when he'd been knocked out, and came to with a "-the fuck?" muttered groggily as he blinked his eyes open and rubbed at them. He blinked and frowned in confusion, because they definitely weren't in the cell anymore. It looked like a proper room!

He looked around quickly, relieved when he saw that Annie was beside him. "What's going on?"

"Welcome home." The doctor told him, paying much more attention to Three than four, even as she started to wake up.

It took her a moment to completely come around, lifting a hand to her temple, giving her eyes time to focus. "home?"

"This is where you're going to live now!" Gunner said excitedly. "You're pregnant!" Not the most delicate way to say that, but he was thrilled. It was like a pet dog having puppies!

Byron blinked again, looking surprised. He knew that pregnancy had been the goal, but it still sounded surreal.

He wasn't half as surprised as Annie looked. It had only been a week, how could he tell she was pregnant already? That was impossible. "You can't know that!"

The doctor just smiled a little bit. "You're due March sixteenth, Gunner took the liberty of marking it on the calendar for you." He gestured towards one pinned to the wall. "Until then you'll be very happy because you'll be very well taken care of, under close medical attention, a healthy diet, vitamins." He looked between the two of them and then shook his head. "No caffeine, no alcohol, no smoking." Not that they could get their hands on the stuff.

Annie frowned, shaking her head, looking down at her stomach. It seemed impossible! It made her want to cry. She didn't want to have a baby, not here! It didn't seem right to bring an innocent child into a place like this.

"We'll come see you twice a day with the drug," Gunner continued. "So that won't be any different. But you can make your own food. We got grocries and we'll bring more." Healthy groceries of course! Lots of fruits and vegetables and grains and lean meats.

"Pregnant," Byron repeated, still processing.

Gunner nodded eagerly and reached into his lab coat pocket, pulling out one of the syringes. "Now the drug!" he said, uncapping it and going over to Annie.

She looked up as Gunner approached her with the needle and although it was the hardest thing ever to say, she put her hand out to stop him taking a step back. "Wait! Don't give that to me! What about the baby? The baby will be drugged too!" Which was probably a part of the experiment, she realized all of a sudden.

"The baby will be fine." The doctor said...and really thought it was true although he had no proof that it was. "Don't worry."

It was the point of the experiment, in part, to see what a baby, born to people on the drug would be like. If the abilities would be passed along, the extra strength and speed and dexterity.

"It's fine," Gunner cooed and he took her arm and jabbed her with the needle, injecting her. He capped the needle and pulled out the other one and did the same to byron, who groaned softly in relief.

"You're worrying." The doctor chastised. "Don't worry, it's bad for the baby." He waited until Gunner had given the last shot before heading for the door. He had other things to do. Better things.

Annie still looked shot although she'd covered the puncture site with her hand to stop the little bit of bleeding. Pregnant and on drugs and when her child was born, if it really was true, who knew what would happen to it? She looked over at Byron but he seemed to be enjoying himself far too much to share her worries.

"It will be good," Gunner said, patting her head before he pocketed the needles and followed the Doctor out of the lab, locking it up tight behind them.

Byron sunk back against the sofa, quiet for a long minute or too as he reveled in that first wash of bliss that came with the drug. His eyes were closed, and he could almost pretend that everything was good....

His eyes opened and he looked at Annie. Uncertain. "So... a baby."

Annie looked grim and worried and didn't say anything about it at all. Instead she turned away, taking in the new room, and headed towards the kitchen. "We can have lasagna and meatloaf, I guess." Her hand never left her stomach though, not even when she found a cookbook, opening it up to find some recipies.
