Thread: Captives Escape
Who: The Captives: Ryder and Ashley, Nova, Bruce, Seth an Ronald. Dr. Bishop and Gunner also present.
When: FORWARDDATED, DECEMBER 16, late afternoon.
Where: Outside.
What: Testing goes awry for Stargate, and right for the captives.
Notes: Note the date - this takes place tomorrow in-game. This is done so follow up stuff can also happen tomorrow. :D Everyone read coz this is important!

There were two pieces of good luck for the captives on that day. One of those pieces was the ace in the hole, the luck that no one else realized they had. Or else the first piece of luck would never have happened.

The first piece of luck was that they had been brought outside. Away from the base, blindfolded in the back of a van so they had no idea where they were taken, except that it was the middle of nowhere with lots of dirt and trees and frozen ground. Accompanied by the Doctor, his weird assistant, and three burly security guards who looked as though they could each take down a Mac truck.

Some tests were to be done outside. To see how Seth could work with proper earth beneath his feet. To see how Nova could draw water from the outdoors, from the air and the frozen plants. To see how the twins could phase through trees. To see if Ronald could read the auras of other living things, not just humans. And Bruce... well he was there to keep Ronald calm.

It wouldn't have seemed lucky at all, not with the metal collars they wore, ready to blow their heads off if they stepped a millimeter out of line. But that as there luck number two came in.

Apparently one of the security guards thought that being a child meant stupidity, and had mentioned, within Ronald's hearing, that the collrs were dummies. Ronald, of course, had repeated this to Bruce, who had repeated it to all the other captives in whispered voices, and then they knew. So when they were brought outside, it seemed like an opportunity. Maybe the only opportuniuty they would have.

They didn't have a lot of chance to plan, not without a chance of being overheard. All they had decided was that Seth would create a distraction with his ablities and then they would run. Fast, hard and as far as they could.

This was their chance. A chance to escape and Seth knew that if there was going to be someone needed for a distraction, he'd be the one to do it. His ability wasn't turned off by fancy drugs. He could do whatever he wanted and the adrenaline was already forcing its way into his veins with a fury. Escape. They could escape, but he had to do this right. The doctor wanted Seth to see him do a bit of work with the ground.

On any normal circumstance, Seth wouldn't have been able to accomplish such a feat. He'd done things similar to it before, but it had been a slow process. Desperation could be a great motivator, and it was what drove Seth as he with a force forced a wall of earth to spike up from the ground large enough to separate the doctor, Gunner and the cronies from them. He'd warned the others of the basic idea of the plan, and now it was in action.

"RUN!" he roared at the others, seizing little Ronald who'd in no way find an escape on his own and hoisting him up into one arm. The others would follow, there wasn't even a question to it. None of them wanted to stick around and see the angry faces or play stoolie. They wanted home, they wanted Zener. Long legs carried him into the woods, not leaving himself time to admire his possibly once in a lifetime feat. There was little time to waste if they were going to run away and not run an even higher risk of being caught.

Nova didn't run right away. She was a little exhausted and annoyed and excited at the same time. A combination that made her smirk before drawing on as much water as she could (because she finally could!) and added it to the ground beneath the Guards. Thick enough that their feet were sinking into the Earth and with the walls Seth had made, they were slipping into each other.

"Fuck." She realized she had been there way too many seconds after everyone ran and took off into the woods. Amazingly not tripping. "Are we just fucking running in any fucking direction or is there some fucking sort of plan here!" She had a loud mouth even when she was running faster than she'd ever run before.

Ryder had started running instantly, grabbing Ashley's hand without having to think of it and just running. As hard and fast as he could. He wasn't much of a runner, but he'd make an exception today, even if he was in sock and hospital pants that wanted to fall off his skinny hips.

"Away! We're running away!" he called to Nova, and that was probably obvious. "Just everyone try and stick together!" Right now the important thing was to gt away from the guards, who were currently stuck in mud and trying to get past the blockage that Seth had made all at the same time. Once they were far enough away they could slow and maybe try and get their bearings a little bit, but for the moment it was all about distance. As much distance as they could get and as fast as possible.

And so he ignored branches that scraped at his skin or tried to catch in hs clothes, waving them off and just ran. Small things like scrapes and bruises could be worried about later.

"Anywhere that's away from them," Seth grunted still carrying Ronald. He didn't want to cuss around the kid but any sight of the goon squad and he was going to be cursing up a storm with Nova enough that it might as well be called a category five curse word hurricane. He was keeping track of the others and moved closer toward where Nova was running, picking up a pace next to her.

"He's right, we need to just stick together, if we separate it'll be harder for them to find us but it sure as hell makes it riskier," they were stronger with a large number. Seth and Nova could easily put their abilities together and make anyone's life a perfect hell of mud and rocks.

They'd only be running into the woods halfway, then they'd be running out. Where to exactly he wasn't sure, but there had to be some sort of nearby town. This wasn't Kansas, this was New Hampshire, they had to find some place.

Nova wished she'd had time to think. She could have made the guards piss themselves. It was something she secretly worked on when in public. Bodies had way too much water in them and she had slowly began to figure it out. Not that pissing ones self was a way of major distraction, but it would at least give her some sort of abnormal satisfaction.

"You watch movies? Seperate and someone always gets caught. We stick together, we have more of a chance of causing distractions to get away." She wanted to trip him and tell him not to play Mr. Hero, but then he sort of already did, and they were getting away.

"There's got to be a road. A highway. Something." And she was wearing hospital pants that were too big and rolled down a few times and very uncomfortable to run in, plus it was freezing.

Unsurprisingly, Ashley agreed with his brother. They were running away. It didn't matter to him if they stuck together or went separate ways as long as it was away and they all stayed that way. "It doesn't matter if we stay together or separate," he called out, unable to keep himself from grinning. "Just stay with someone so you aren't alone." All of them were old enough to take care of themselves, well, except for Ronald but he doubted Bruce would let him out of his sight.

Running away was probably the easiest for the pair of them, they didn't have to worry about going around anything. Trees, rocks, snow drifts, they passed straight through it, all of it.

As they ran he tried to figure out where they were, where they should go. He glanced up towards the sun making it out through the low, over hanging gray clouds and determined that they were running north? North west? He wasn't sure how that helped since he didn't know where they were in relation to the school but he felt better knowing. He glanced behind him once to make sure everyone was keeping up and then smiled at his brother. "Should have paid attention better in Boyscouts," he told him, eyes widening. "I bet that would come in handy. Or more MacGuyver."

"Which part of boyscouts?" Ryder asked and he almost grinned because running felt glorious. It felt like freedom! "The popsicle stick gluing or the games of hide and seek?" Okay there had probably been some more practical stuff in Boyscouts as well, but he didn't really remember, he only remembered the fun parts.

"Anyone know how to tell direction?" he called out to the others. Although he wasn't sure how helpful that would be since they didn't know exactly where they were to begin with. The ride n the back of the van hadn't been too long, twenty minutes tops, but in what direction, he had no clue.

"Maybe run us right to a McDonalds or something!" he added with a breathles sort of laugh.

They were still running, he was going to get tired. Ronald wasn't so much of a problem. Maybe he was, a little, but had anyone else tried to carry him it would've slowed them down even more. His chest huffed air, "We need to at least go till we hit pavement."

Was it morning? Afternoon? He'd been at that place for so long it was hard to tell night from day anymore. It could be afternoon, it could be morning, he couldn't tell which. It wasn't like they had watches to wear.

"Do you guys see anything other than trees?" he shouted to the twins who were ahead of them. Seth glanced at Nova, "You okay? Okay, stupid question. How much longer do you think you can run for?"

"There's some water not too far ahead. I don't know if it's a lake or a stream but there's water." Nova offered since she had nothing else to offer. She didn't hear yelling or bloodhounds or anything like that so she imagined they were doing good.

Nova was moving pretty quickly for someone with what she imagined was a broken wrist all from falling off her cot and using her hand to stop the fall. She was brittle and probably eighty something pounds by now. She could drop the sweat with her ability, but she was still tired. Answering him seemed stupid so she just growled.

You serious?" Ashley asked, his lungs were burning from all this running and he had a stitch in his side but it didn't matter, all of it could be ignored for the sake of where they were bound to end up. "You didn't get the 'How to Escape Being Kidnapped By Lunatics' badge?" He had been thinking more along the lines of wilderness survival and how to take care of yourself when you found yourself in situations like these, lost in a strange place.

"We're running north west." He told him and was fairly confident in his answer. "Eighty percent sure."

"You're making that up!" Ryder declared, even though Ash might have been telling the truth- he'd always been better at outdoorsie stuff. He didn't spare much of a glance in Nova and Seth's direction, because he didn't need to see them to answer and didn't want to end up veering off course.

"Is it real water? Like, fresh?" he was askin, but suddenl he heard a shout. It came from the distance behind them, accompanied by the sound of cracking branches. It sounded like a herd of buffalos.

"Crap!" he said, hoping they had a good head start. "We need to get to that river and on the other side! Then Nova can do.. something!"

Water, that was always a good sign. Creeks led to lakes or rivers or something. Those ended up leading them to civilization. But the noise of whoever it was catching up brought little comfort and seemed to give Seth the second wind he needed to start picking up the pace he hadn't realized had been slowing.

"Ronald, cover your ears," he told the boy and began with a string of curses with each step he took. They were coming, and probably coming on fast. What Nova could do with a river of water, he sure as hell didn't know, but maybe if he got the same sort of high he had earlier he could give them an earthquake they'd never forget.

"How much further, Nova?" he asked in a hurried voice.

"River!" Nova was excited although she'd have to be close by if she wanted to seriously splash the guards and whatever. She doubted the Doctor could run that fast. He was probably off killing things in anger or something, she imagined. As they came up to a thick stream she stopped running.

"Call me Moses, bitch." She spread the water a little, what she could manage, making it a lot more shallow than it would be otherwise. Rocks lined the bottom so it would be easy for everyone to jump around those to get to the other side. She started hoping onto them herself, not wanting to waste time.

"You need to break up the ground on their side and we'll cause a big mud pool, or something. It stopped them once, I don't see why we can't do it with some major water?" Nova was thinking fast, nearly slipping and falling, and trying not to curse too much. Sooner or later they'd get safe and Ronald would ask what those words meant.

The fact that their fate seemed to rest on Nova and her ability to move water wasn't all that comforting to Ashley Falkland but he kept that bit of information to himself because, well, Nova could get a little scary when she was all worked up.

It probably wasn't necessary but as they came to the river, Ashley took the 'path' Nova had made although the depth of the water really didn't bother him that. Even if their pursers caught up to them, there was no way they would be kidnapping either him or his brother, not when they had all their faculties with them.

Ryder was actually really impressed with Nova parting the water for them. Okay maybe it wasn't like parting the Red Sea, but it was still pretty cool, and he might have said so if he wasn't so busy getting to the other side.

Once the were all on the other river bank, he yelped out, "Do it!" Unlike the wall of earth Seth had pulled up earlier, the river didn't have an easy way around it, so if Nova and Seth made it a big pile of sucky mud... well that would help them out a lot.

"And this is how we roll," Seth made it to the other side, putting Ronald down temporarily but keeping the ten-year-old behind him. A smile at Nova and then his eyes bore into the ground. Beneath them the ground began to shake. Almost violently though the epicenter was directly across on the other side. The earthquake was concentrated to the area only so it wouldn't really reverberate nearby. Though a few shockwaves might echo out.

The ground began cracking open, crumbling and loosening the soil enough that should Nova wet it, the pit of mud would be deep, thick, and downright next to impossible to get out without a great deal of effort. A group effort.

"You are so stupid." Nova rolled her eyes at Seth but was grinning. She used a lot of water from the river and waved it over. The biggest wave she'd ever caused since she had the pool back at school and a lake once, in which she made a tiny whirlpool. This was serious business and she was impressed with herself. Not even remotely sad for all the river fish that were going to be out of a home and living in a earthy mud pile. Nova hated fish, anyway.

"That should stop them for a while. We need to keep moving." She made a face. She wasn't sure she could.

Ashley had to stop to watch the two of them work, panting for breath. His hand tightened around Ryder's liking the idea of staying behind to see the hunting party chasing them have to deal with what was left behind. "Can't we just watch for a little while?" He asked, smiling. He would have loved to make faces at their followers, a few rude gestures.

He glanced side long at his brother to make sure he was alright, he wasn't used to all this physical activity, that was for sure.

Ryder was going to be dead exhausted when they found their way out of the woods and to safety, but for the moment he as running on adrenaline. His eyes were shiny ith it, and he had near vice grip on Ashley's hand as he watched Nova and Seth work.

The crashing sounds grew louder, closer, and branches could be seen to be moving as the guards came out the other side, trampling and obviously angry. The three burly men started shouting curses and threats as soon as they saw them, and the guard in the lead didn't even noice the mud pit until he was already knee deep in it.

"Let's go!" Ryder suggested, turning to head into the woods darting out of sight of the struggling guards.

"It's beautiful," Seth pretended to wipe a tear from his eye, but the fact remained that they were indeed being chased. The good doctor probably called in reinforcements if Tweedle-Dee, Tweedle-Dum, and Tweedle-Dumber failed to deliver. Crouching down, he allowed Ronald to climb on his back for a sort of piggy back ride and then looked at Nova.

"We need to go, we're bound to hit a town or house soon," the logic in his head was that most cities or towns tended to be built near bodies of water. A river in this case surely meant there was a town nearby.

He leaned down, stealing a kiss from her and then moved, running into the woods on the other side again with renewed determination. Seth would crash eventually, but for now he was depending on whatever adrenaline he had left in his system to take him further.

"I want this fu--thing off my neck." She was uncomfortable, hurt, and running too much.

What Nova really wanted was to watch and see if they maybe happened to drowned in mud or something. Which would be fantastic. She also didn't want to run. Everyone could run really fast, but she was short, and so underweight and screwed up she was sure she was going to die. Adrenaline was enough to get her a while further, she told herself, and took off.

"You okay?" Ashley paused to ask him even though his brother looked very alright. He ran his fingers over the side of his face gently as everyone took a few minute to watch the results of Nova and Seth's handiwork. Once he was sure Ryder was alright, because he definitely couldn't carry him the way Seth carried Ronald, he tugged his brother back into the woods through a large over turned tree and away from the rocky river shore.

"I'm good!" Ryder assured him. Sure, he was breathing hard, but that was okay. He could rest later. They could all rest later. And Nova was right, hopefully get the freaking collars off.

"Mine itches," he called over to her in agreement as they all started to run again, picking their way over fallen branches and ducking under ones still attached to the trees. The guards could be heard in the background, cursing and shouting and generally making a lot of anry noise.

The farther away they got from that noise the better. Moving in a straight line they were sure not to see the doctor or his creepy assistant again. Seth could feel his pace slowly and he stopped walking. "Hold up." He squatted down on the ground, touching the ground and closing his eyes.

It would probably drain him more than he was already drained of mental capability but he should have thought of it sooner. He could feel what was under the ground, but also disturbances in the area. Pavement.

"There's pavement somewhere ahead," he nodded in front of them, "We're on the right track. We need to keep moving though."

((OOC: I'm heading to bed soon, so yeah, if you want to ignore that part about him feeling ahead through the ground, that's fine.

"Can you smell it, Seth? They inject you with some doggie stuff? Enhance your smelling abilities?" Nova stopped moving when he did. She wasn't sure she could get much farther, plus suddenly she felt like puking. She grumbled.

"I don't know if I can move now that I've stopped again." She was seconds away from taking off the hospital pant bottoms which were more in the way than anything.

"Can't you tell closer than somewhere?" They knew there was pavement somewhere ahead, there had to be unless all the pavement had suddenly disappeared from the world. Judging from how quickly Seth had found said pavement, though, had to mean it was more close than far.

He was about to start off through the woods again when Nova announced that she couldn't really go any further. He sighed and loosened his grip on his brother. "We can go ahead and get help," he offered. He really didn't want to be slowed down at this point.

"We shouldn't just leave her here," Ryder said, biting down on his lower lip and looking at Nova. "Just incase." Incase the guads somehow managed to struggle through the pit of mud. He didn't want Nova to get snatched up, especially when they were so close.

"Seth can carry you. Me and Ash can take Ronald. Or Bruce can." Seth was the biggest, so he could carry Nova the easiest. She was freaking tiny anyway.

"It can't be too far," he said in response to Ashley, "Which means once we hit the road we'll be able to flag a car down. And swear to God if it's reliving that scene in the Goonies with Chunk, I'm going to go berserk." Seth nodded in agreement to what Ryder was saying, but glared in an unappreciative way to Ashley's words, which sounded more like 'See ya suckers' then 'Let me give you a hand.'

"Ronald, go with Ryder and Ashley," he told the boy and then stood up, walking over to Nova. She didn't get a choice because Seth was picking her up and pulling her over his shoulder. "Let's move," he said and started again. It was a light jog this time, no way could he pull off an all out run.

Nova rolled her eyes. It wasn't her fault that she was already exhausted before they started running, let alone the fact she wasted a ton of energy by over using her ability. She didn't care, really, as long as everyone else would have gotten to safety. She'd attempt to drowned anyone who happened upon her. Of course these thoughts were oofed out of her when Seth picked her up.

"Great. Watch where your grabbing me, Cujo." She wasn't really going to complain when she was about to pass out, anyway.

Ronald did not go to the twins. He went to Bruce instead who was standing a little off to the side and panting. Bruce hadn't said much during the run because he had been concentrating on getting away and not dropping Ronald's stuffed monkey. In the commotion that had followed their escape, the boy had lost his grip on the toy, and Bruce had snatched it up off the ground as they were running away.

And now there was a little reunion with Ronald taking Coco from Bruce, mumbling something barely audible to her while checking her 'injuries' and then finally giving the stuffed monkey a great big hug. Bruce ruffled Ronald's hair and leaned in to hear the boy's whispers before saying.

"Hey Seth, Ronald says he's sorry that he can't run on his own but he says thank you anyway." And now it was his turn to give Ronald a piggyback ride.
