WHO Daisuke Tendo, Kat Nakashima
WHERE Pollyanna and Starscream's apartment
WHEN Jan. 15th, midday
RATING G
SUMMARY Let's chat.
STATUS Complete

Kat had officially run out of chores. That was after, in a fit of creating a task were there was none to be had, attempted to rearrange the furniture in his bedroom. It was quite the undertaking for someone with barely functioning legs. All he really succeeded on moving were the pieces of furniture that could be disassembled in one place and reassembled in another, as well as all of Kuma's things but those didn't really count due to the absolute lack of challenge they posed. The upside was that the fool's errand did create tiny messes to tidy up, and he was in the process of sweeping the debris from under his desk when he heard a knock on their door.

He wasn't quite sure if Simon was still sleeping or had left while he was too busy in the middle of disassembling things to notice, but he would have answered the door regardless. Even a small task, such as answering the door, was a task! The only downside to small tasks was how easily they were accomplished. A roll down the hallway and a turn of the doorknob and Kat was back to square one. "Oh, hi, are you looking for Simon?" he asked as he backed away from the door so that Daisuke can step in.

Simon had forgotten something of his again. In this case, it was a shirt of his. Daisuke hadn't figured out that Simon had once again snagged one of his shirts and left the old one behind, something like a snake leaving his skin. He hadn't quite caught onto Simon's actions at the moment but he did have his suspicions.

Since it was a slow Sunday, Daisuke made his way over to return the shirt, maybe in a weird way, he just needed an excuse to come over. When Kat opened the door and asked if he was looking for Simon, Daisuke smiled sheepishly. "Am I that obvious?" he responded in Japanese but stepped in just the same.

"Not at all! Lucky guess," Kat answered teasingly in Japanese. It was obvious that Daisuke would stop by to visit Simon, or at the very least would be by because of Simon. "If you wanted to speak Japanese, you can call, and you seem the type that you wouldn't visit someone first unless you're very close to them. I don't think I'm on that list yet!"

He turned and moved toward the kitchen. "Would you like something to drink? You're welcome to ignore me and knock on Simon's door, I'm just looking for things to do."

"I'm not much of a phone talker," Daisuke admitted. Then he paused for a moment, "Also, not much of a talker in general..." he offered a small smile. He would talk on the phone for work and talk to his parents but those were because saw them as necessary.

"I won't ignore you... but tea sounds great..." he commented before he took a few steps to lightly knock on Simon's door to no answer. "I suppose he's not home. Well, he probably would have already stuck his head out the door and look all affronted we were talking in Japanese..." he said with a bit of humor and a touch of affection.

"I don't really use my phone that much either, I just like to see who I'm talking to better. When I was learning English, sometimes I got away with figuring out what people were saying to me just by the way they were acting and not what they were saying," Kat smiled back at Daisuke. "Not talking is okay too, I'm just not very good at it, after eight years of not saying a word I'm making up for lost time."

Kat set out two mugs, filled them with hot water, and then left the tea bags in them to steep. "well, maybe it will give him more motivation to learn Japanese, then he could join in and not be offended." Kat said with a soft chuckled, "I hear that he is trying to learn, so we should say nothing but compliments in Japanese when he's around. I have a feeling he'll pick that up even faster."

"You need to see how they form the sounds sometimes," Daisuke agreed. "Besides, I just find it awkward in general." He stopped for a moment before sitting at the kitchen table. "Eight years of not saying a word?" He knew there was a story there but maybe that was too blunt, "Sorry for bursting out like that."

He smirked a little bit. "He already told me he doesn't want me talking Japanese with you if he's around. I swear... he's like an endearing child sometimes..." He cupped his hand around the mug to feel the warmth.

"Eight years, four months, and nineteen days. When I was about seven I started having trouble speaking words, then I had trouble making sounds, by age eight nothing. I had a lot of health problems when I was younger," Kat explained after he waved off Daisuke's apology. "Don't be sorry, it is kind of surprising. That is a really long time."

Kat reached for the bowl of sugar and began spooning a few spoonfuls into his own mug, "all the more reason to speak Japanese around him! Children are the most amusing when they don't get their way. As long as he doesn't issue a vendetta against the islands of Japan because I willfully forget that he asked, a little huffiness is okay."

"Wow, that's impressive..." Daisuke admitted with a nod of his head. "I'm sure it made you incredibly observant." He smiled curtly at that. He did mean what he said. "No wonder Ebisu chose you."

Daisuke took a couple spoonfuls of sugar but then he held onto his cup in both his hands. "He can be difficult when it comes what he wants... but he's teaching me French and gave me a poetry in French. I have so many languages rattling in my head. Japanese, English, Arabic, Latin from High School, and now French. But he insisted."

"Not really observant, I just had to adapt a lot." Kat chuckled softly, "If one way didn't work, I'd just come up with another. I think Ebisu would pick someone who loves a good challenge."

"I think knowing four languages, almost five, is more impressive. It's weird, but I like the sounds of languages I don't know. It's fun trying to figure out what is being said." He smiled and sipped from his cup. "I only know Japanese, English, and Morse code...which isn't really a language, just a good way to get a point across."

"He is an amazing kami. Quite admirable," Daisuke agreed with a small smile. "I think he picked well. After all, you've bounced back considerably from December."

He paused for a moment, "Well, I am only fluent in Japanese and English. I don't remember a lot of Latin. I rememebr the teacher was very boring. Arabic, I know conversational and understand better than speak it. I'm near fluency because I use it a lot and the script is hard but I wouldn't say I'm fluent." He chuckled a little bit. "Morse code may be fun."

"All I can do is keep going. For some reason I'm still here, so I shouldn't waste it, you know?" Kat said as he rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly. "I wish I could do more to make up for it, but I don't know."

"Morse is fun and you can use it to spell out any word. I actually started studying English after I couldn't talk." He began rapping a knuckle against the side of his mug as he spoke, "My mom and I used to practice conversations with Morse. Sometimes I'm tapping what I'm going to say before I say it, most people just think I'm fidgety so I never got rid of the habit."

It amazed Daisuke how much some people went through. His issues were probably the least complicated. His dad was hardly home and his mothers were somewhat helicopter moms.

"It's like braille or sign language..." At this moment, his cellphone vibrated. Looking at it, he sighed, "Okay, I gotta go.Thanks for the tea. We'll talk again later."
