WHO Rylee Nox and Gus Tilki
WHERE Independent cafe that Rylee frequents (Mary, think Cherries)
WHEN July 21st, 2012, Afternoon
RATING PG-13
SUMMARY A date interrupted
STATUS In progress

It had been a pretty average week, which was a pleasant change of events. Things, and especially shitty things, kept popping up, but this week had been uninterrupted. No missed work or classes, no lying to cover up her weird-ass secret identity. The only concern she had was in regards to Felix. He was really taking Sunny's disappearance badly, but that was kind of expected. Even if she couldn't see what he saw in her, Felix was a good guy and good guys didn't take well to their girlfriend going missing. Especially not when it was accompanied by that doom and gloom prophecy. As far as Rylee was concerned, Sunny was gone for good. Food for that void monster thing that was eating gods (maybe it had a taste for demis after all), or otherwise prey to the chaotic forces that had been making a pretty good attempt at ruining all their lives. She felt badly for Felix because he deserved to know what happened, but honestly, she had no particular love for Sunny, except on Felix's behalf.

In any case, an average week deserved an average weekend, which meant the redhead wanted to be entertained. On an impulse, she'd texted Gus to meet her at a cafe she liked to hang out at. Yes, she had more hangouts than just bars. The cafe was a pretty nifty place - they had edible flowers on some of their desserts, which was really freaking cool. Sometimes she bought one just for the novelty of eating a flower; the taste wasn't incredibly impressive. At least, she hadn't had one yet that was incredibly impressive. It was kind of hidden away, which kept the crowd from being too scene, or hip, or anything else that would have made Rylee start punching people.

Arriving first, the demigod grabbed one of the couches and ordered one of their specialty teas. The board games strewn around the cafe had given her an idea and she had grabbed up Scrabble.

Rylee liked Gus because, well, she enjoyed hanging out with him for one. For two, they did seem to have the same preference for relationships. Or, well, not relationships, as the case may be.

"Feel free to work your magic on me," she encouraged him, smirking. Ooo, take charge. She kind of liked that and leaned up to meet him for the kiss. Just, of course, as her phone started ringing. She completely ignored it. "I'll get the voicemail," she murmured.

Gus grinned at the invitation and leaned down to give her the kiss and work his magic. Kissing wise, he could be compared to a warlord conquering territory. It fit his personality. He went for it, no holding back, and definitely put a little show into it.

At the phone ringing, he paused for a moment then continued, "Yeah, my kissing is enough to send phone calls to voice mail..." he said between kisses.

A warlord conquering territory... That was totally Rylee's style - she appreciated it. And appreciated that he had chosen right now to indulge. Making out on a couch in a hole-in-the-wall cafe. Perfect date. Well, almost perfect - they'd see how it ended.

When Gus asserted that his kissing was enough to send phone calls to voicemail, she couldn't help but to smile against his lips. Dork. For someone so suave, he definitely had a nerdy side.

Eventually, the kissing had to end, mostly because the waitress had arrived to check in on them and spoke before realizing what was going on. Rylee didn't bother to slide her legs off of Gus, figuring they could reconvene momentarily. However, she did check her phone for the message she missed. She probably shouldn't have.

Rylee had been smiling to herself when the message started, but soon the color drained from her face and she slid her legs off of Gus, planting them on the floor like she needed to feel something concrete under them. One arm pressed against her stomach, and she sort of hunched over. When the message was done, she paused for a moment, then listened to it again. She felt herself getting hot this time, a sweat breaking out. Then she sat back, utter shock on her face, her phone held loosely in her hand.

At Rylee switched from receptive to suddenly closed off, Gus leaned forward. Bad news? He had a few scenarios on his mind. Maybe something happened to her brother. Maybe her experiment failed. Lost a scholarship? Tested positive for a STD? No that was mean.

"What's wrong? Did you grow something bad in a lab?" he teased, knocking his knees into hers.

He had no idea it would be bad news that would effect him too.

It was a good thing that Rylee was still in a state of shock and disbelief because Gus's joking should have earned him a punch in the face. It was the calm before the storm - Rylee dealt with pain in the same way she dealt with anger: by destroying things.

The redhead was shocked enough that she didn't even give him a nasty look when she looked over at him. She still just looked stunned. Redialing her voicemail, she put it on speaker. This was partly for her own benefit. Even though she'd listened to it twice, she didn't think it could be real. She carefully watched Gus's face. Then she'd know if it was real or not.
