Daimon on the Beach
Who: Daisuke and Simon
Where: On the Beach on Martha's Vineyard
When: 27 May 2012, mid-afternoon
What: Daimon discuss things
Status: Complete
Rating: PG-13

Memorial Day had been one of those other holidays Daisuke's family only celebrated because everything pretty much shut down on that day. He got to understand it a bit more when he grew up and did admittedly feel very awkward when people spoke about their grandfather who served in World War II. Daisuke's grandfathers did serve in World War II but it was on the losing side, the losing side which had many human rights violations to their ranks. Daisuke admittedly was curious what Amaterasu thought about the Japanese Imperial Army during that time but he felt it was a topic his family rarely brought up so perhaps it would be too rude to. So Daisuke never felt entirely right celebrating Memorial Day for that reason. He knew many Sansei in the region who told of relatives that served on the US side then when they came home decorated were forced into internment camps. It was odd, even the winning side had some human rights violations. Sure, it wasn't to the level as the Batan Death March but it didn't erase what happened to those families who lost money, respect, and land due to the war.

Even as Daisuke now served on the side of the United States and got the federal holiday off, he saw it more as a mini-vacation. In the past, he usually spent it just engaging in some R&R. This was the first time he went away. However, parades and fireworks was the last thing he planned on doing. Daisuke envisioned it after his partner had given him the idea of Simon and himself on a deserted island. Only them. No parents, no gods, no responsibilities. All they were were a couple of consenting adults who loved each other and somehow found each other through some twisted dark miracle.

After a long day of driving and stocking the cottage for the weekend, Friday consisted of eating pizza on the porch overlooking high tide as the sun set. Saturday consisted of some morning smooching, a big breakfast, lunch and shopping in town, then a planned romantic night in the cottage. Daisuke did his best to keep it a secret. He sent Simon on an errand to get some ice cream so Daisuke could set up the wine, the flowers, the music, the candles, the lube and when Simon arrived back, the ice cream was left in the freezer forgotten. Sure, it was a learning experience but Daisuke found, despite the awkwardness of doing it right, it was a very special moment.

His mother visited him in his dream, or tried to. She was rebuffed by Aphrodite who did rule exclusively in the area. "A romance between the sun and the moon cannot last" his mother had said. Daisuke thought but did not say that didn't stop you and Tsukiyomi... He got up early the next morning and did some thinking by the beach. Where did he go from here? He wanted Simon to stay in his life.

That morning, Daisuke and Simon had another session of snuggles and kisses after breakfast but then decided to go for a walk on the beach, collecting shells. Daisuke brought a pail with them as he dressed incredibly down for him. He work a pair of jean shorts (to the knees kinds) and a blue t-shirt with the pocket on the breast. He also wore flipflops as he made a conscious decision to not bring socks.

There was a sparkling pink foam washing up with the tide and the weather was warm but not hot. The breeze off the ocean remained refreshing. He picked up a purplish scallop and showed it to Simon, "The colors are darker here..." he mentioned briefly. He was used to California.

Daisuke felt his heart leap into his throat as Simon didn't take well to his joke. He knew he should have just not said anything. "No, I didn't mean it like that. I like you how you are. I don't want you to change at all. It was a joke and I will just stay away from the gay jokes..." He beat himself up silently for going down that road. "I'm sorry..." he inclined his torso forward his eyes down, a bit of a habit from when he did something wrong at home.

Then the other part Simon said about the dead fish and hoping Daisuke didn't swim in that. He grew stiff as he figured a good response to that, "The foam wasn't here this morning. But I will make sure I smell like soap when you get up from your nap. I will be more gentle next time." He did fear he hurt Simon the night before after hearing Simon speak.

He reached down for a lady slipper shell as he examined it. It looked different from any other shell he had seen, "I also should clean these shells before we leave tomorrow..." He sighed as he looked out over the ocean. This weekend was going by very quickly. "I wish I could stay here... open up a Bed and Breakfast. You can host and I can cook. Then you can play violin in the symphony on the island."

Simon looks up at Daisuke for a moment before nodding. "It's okay. I just always... well, I just don't want you to have those sorts of expectations. If you are hoping to explore a more flamboyant lifestyle, I think I would be the wrong person to experiment with is all, but... I think that if you were, you would have figured that out already. I... maybe..." But he shakes his head, not voicing what he's really worried about. "I think if you were going to runaway..." Again. "...you had plenty of time to do so before breakfast, early bird." He brushes his hands together. "It does look like a shipment of pink sparkles just... fell into the ocean. That has to be bad for the fish."

He can tell Daisuke is upset about having made the joke, and rather than let him be withdrawn and sad about it, Simon gets to his feet, hooking his fingers into the front loops of Daisuke's shorts. "It was a joke, Daidai. If I really thought you were dirty, I wouldn't kiss you, would I?" he asks, shaking his head. "But I like the rest of your thinking. It would be nice to own something like that. You know, my grandmother does technically own property in Eze. I think you'd like it there. Well, you'd probably like any of that area. It's very beautiful. But..." His mouth twitches a little. "I'm not sure how much hosting I could really do. I think guests tend to be more frightened than charmed by mad men."

Daisuke shook his head, "I just want to be with you. I'm not interested in 'experimenting' with anyone but you." He said it insistently before he leaned down to kiss Simon lightly. "No. Last night was good..." Daisuke said as he smiled as he pushed the thoughts of his mother judging him for his choice in lovers. This is what he wanted. He found he wanted a lot of things but focused on what he needed and what was best and practical. Simon definitely wasn't practical to Daisuke's existence but Daisuke wanted Simon and did wonder if Simon was enough in his system that he needed him too.

"Oh," Daisuke said in response to Simon's admitting it was a joke. He placed his hands on Simon's waist again. "If I was dirty, would you make me shower before you kissed me?" he asked with a small smile. "In Eze? Maybe. I would like to at least visit it. And then I can fight mist monsters on the side to protect the people of Eze..." he only was partly joking with that.

He frowned at the last part, "I will find a way to protect your mind. I promise you..."

"Maybe, but only so that I could climb into the shower with you," he replies, face dimpling with the cheekiest of cheeky smiles. His mirth is short-lived, though, as they return to the topic of futures. For a moment, he doesn't respond to Daisuke's oath. It's painful to talk about what could have been. The idea of owning some kind of bed & breakfast with Daisuke most certainly has a lot of appeal, but how? How could that really happen? How long would they be able to enjoy it for? It seems to him that it would be a brief pleasure at best, and at worst, a place to keep him until he really can't function at all without a nurse by his side. It's a sickening thought. And at the end of the day, this promise isn't possible to keep. If he died, Daisuke could possibly keep that one - the route to the Underworld is extremely dangerous and uncertain, but not impossible to find. But within his own mind, it'd be impossible for Daisuke to find him. He'd have to do something drastic like sell his soul to Jack or Hecate or the Baron, and Simon wouldn't be able to live with that.

It's really too painful.

He shakes his head and smiles. "Of course, you will," he replies lightly, kissing Daisuke on the cheek. "You are my knight-in-shining armor, Daidai." He releases him to step back into the surf, and then kicks some glittering, pink filled water at him. "But maybe I am my own dragon, hmm? What are you going to do then?" he adds, leaning over to cup water into both hands and fling it.

Daisuke pauses for a moment as he thought about the two of them in the shower. He wasn't entirely sure who he felt about it because shower had always been private time for him. However, he already broke many of his own rules this weekend. What was one more.

He did notice the shift in Simon's demeanor and Daisuke figured maybe he should show that he will rather than keep on telling Simon that. Daisuke wasn't the type to give up simply. He did smile almost a bit smugly when Simon kissed him and called him his knight.

He turned away from the surf Simon just tossed at him but he still got hit. "I will aid you in your quest to deal with them and loving you with all my heart..." Daisuke said shyly before he suddenly grinned, "Or, I'll attack you like this-" he ran towards Simon and picked him up in a fireman carry quite easily as the sun was out.

"I'm tossing you in the ocean..." Daisuke replied matter-of-factly as he continued into the ocean, the water reaching his knees. "Then you really will be dirty and you will really need a shower..." He then added dryly after a moment, "I will make you dirty..."

"Wait, no!" Simon starts to shout, but Daisuke snatches him up like a big mean ole eagle grabbing a pheasant out of the grass. He gasps in shock as he finds himself no longer on solid ground. Instinctively, he grabs at Daisuke, clutching him, because he can't remember being picked up since he was a very small child, and it's a very disorienting thing. "Daisuke!" he shouts, trying to curl around him to prevent himself from falling before giving his little chest a slap. "Daisu--!" he shouts more insistently, but he's ignored. He knows what's coming. Daisuke most definitely isn't making a secret of it, and admittedly, it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to go back up to the house and jump in the shower with Daisuke, but there's still instinct dictating his reaction to some degree, and falling is one of those things that human beings tend to find alarming.

"No!" he chirps as he looks down at the water steadily climbing up Daisuke's body. "No, I forbid it!" He gives Daisuke's chest another little pound, but it's too late. He just is able to think not to gasp and to squeeze his eyes shut as he finds himself reuniting with gravity. "Daiiii--kay--" he shouts as he's submerged, the sound not so apparent above water, but more just a flurry of bubbles pouring to the surface. He resurfaces, now gasping, and wipes water from his face, eyes still closed. "Daisuke!" he shouts, suddenly on his feet (if squinting) and lunging at his boyfriend. "You are in SO MUCH TROUBLE!"

Daisuke, smiling and giggling like he reverted to age 10 or so, you know, if he were actually like a 10 year old at 10, turned away from Simon as Simon ran towards him. He tried to stop Simon but Daisuke ended up tripping on a rock and falling into the water himself.

"Hahahaha- SPLASH!" Daisuke met with the cold water, so much unlike California waters. He didn't expect it. When he resurfaced, he cried out, "Ahhh! COOOLD!" He hugged himself immediately afterwards.

"Okay, okay..." he commented. "Now, we're even!" He grabbed to bring Simon closer to him to give him a salty kiss. "Time for a warm shower?"
