Game FAQ What's the premise of the game? In 2003 and 2004, a group of teenaged mutants, students of the ultra-exclusive Xavier Institute found themselves tossed into the role of superheroes. For the most part, they dealt with minor anti-mutant threats or assisted mutants with their powers. However, they also had a handful of clashes against more significant enemies- the vengeful Juggernaut, the stepbrother of their mentor, Charles Xavier, a prototype Sentinel and most significantly, against Magneto, once Charles's best friend and his group known as the Brotherhood of Mutants. However, the group soon disbanded, both for personal reasons of the members but also because other superheroes had emerged.
However, with the public revelation of the existence of mutants, the enactment of the Mutant Registration Act and the reemergence of an all-new Brotherhood of Mutants, Charles Xavier determined that it was time, once again, to summon the X-Men. He could only hope that his old students, and perhaps some new mutants, would answer the summons.
Meanwhile, Magneto remained missing ... and there were other potential threats, totally unknown to either Charles or the X-Men, watching and waiting to make their moves.
What is the focus of the game?
The game will focus on the activities of a fully-grown team of X-Men, working at the Xavier Institute. Their superheroics and personal lives will both be a major feature.
What is the time period of the game?
Current day.
Is the game plot or character-driven?
I don't believe these are mutually exclusive. Plots are important, but so are the characters in them.
What is the pace of the game?
As close to real-time as possible, but plot events may happen in a bit of a 'time stall'. Non-plot RP should probably hew a little closer to the timeline. Backdating is allowed within reason, though.
Movie/616/Ultimate/Evo?
None of the above, but vibe-wise, I'm looking to get something of the feeling of the early Eighties comics in which the X-Men established themselves. Updated, of course, for the 21st century.
What's the situation like for mutants around the world?
It's generally not fantastic.
In the US, there's significant antimutant prejudice and a variety of groups who seek to oppose all mutants, many in high places in the government. However, a great many individuals do not have the same blind fear or hatred.
Mutant registration laws exist in some form in most developed countries and several others. The mutant situation will be clarified in specific countries as needed.
What do people know about mutants? Is Xavier known to be a mutant?
People do not know very much about mutants at all, not how many mutants there are, in some cases, not even why mutants exist. The existence of mutants has only been public knowledge for about a year. There are still some people convinced that mutation is a contagious disease. Most of what people know is what they hear from the mainstream media- that is, that mutants exist and they have terrifying superpowers. There are a few contrary voices, but the voice of fear is the one that dominates the media.
Charles Xavier is currently not publicly known as a mutant, because to reveal his status as one would significantly undermine his work. However, his status is known within certain circles.
How many mutants are there in the world?
No one knows for certain, although it's not considered to be a particularly large number. The best guess is that about 10,000 Americans carry the X-factor, which would work out to approximately 200,000 mutants worldwide. Only a minority of mutants, however, have notable superpowers.
What can our X-Men expect to run up against?
In addition to a relatively hostile government, the X-Men have to deal with a variety of mutant threats, and possibly other ones as well. The Brotherhood of Mutants, Magneto, the Hellfire Club, Sinister, Arcade- expect lots of folks to show up.
