It was nearly noon as Jamie Madrox pulled into the last leg of his journey. He very nearly cried at the sight of the front gates and large wall around the Xavier estates. He had made it, and it looked like a good bet that there were people still here, especially with defenses like this. People other than him and him. He pulled up to the gates and leaped out of the truck calling out cheerfully and very relieved. "Hey guys, I'm here!" It had been a very long time since he had actually been at Xavier's, but he knew some people from correspondence and his connection to Moira.
It was his energetic bounding about that saved him from the gun shot that barely missed him. Shocked and dismayed he called out again. "Hey! I'm a good guy! Don't shoot!" Then he saw who it was attacking him. It was himself, or more accurately his dupe. The one that had put him out of commission for who knew how long. What the hell was he doing here? Shooting at him nonetheless! Jamie ducked behind the door, grit his teeth and formed a plan. With a smack on the ground he duplicated himself and they all rushed the wall. A bunch of copies later, he was scaling the wall much like a swarm of ants.
He managed to break into the guard tower and came face to face with his double. "You," growled a breathless Jamie. "are going back to where you belong."
The dupe slammed his own hands together making his own army of clones. The room was very crowded very quickly. "Try and make me." He growled back.
The battle that ensued was messy, confusing and quick. Jamie had actually gotten close to his double and was about to try and reabsorb him. They had ended up much at the same place that Jamie had first climbed up. Jamie lunged forward, and his clone stepped away, into the air. It seemed as if time had slowed down. Jamie could clearly see the look of surprise on his own face as the copy fell. He tried to reach out and grab the dupe but he was only able to barely brush the man's jacket, not getting any hold. He saw himself fall, heard a thud and FELT the death. He fell to his knees with a cry. "No!"
The tears did come now as Jamie trembled and clutched his head in his hands. The copies disappeared, leaving Jamie alone in the guard tower. "I didn't mean for this to happen. I didn't want it to happen." He shook his head. "Oh god, oh god." he sobbed.
