Scott was bored. Perfect. Well, perhaps not bored, per se, but the man was finally taking a rest from all that toil and strife. Seriously, he never sat down. He was probably watching educational videos while he graded papers, hogging prime real estate on the couch in the lounge area... No, Emma realized. She prodded a bit deeper. He was thinking about cars. She fought against herself to keep from getting excited at the thought of Scott Summer's mind being vacant of worry or wife. She pulled on an outfit she hadn't worn in quite some time (12-year-olds didn't seem to appreciate Elizabeth Charles designs). In record time, Miss Frost was slinking casually into the recreation room, which was (for once) vacant of students, staff or Brotherhood. It couldn't have been better had she planned it... Alright. Maybe she'd had a hand in clearing the room. "Professor Summers," she greeted him with an unusual warmth and circled the coffee table before him, making sure he saw the whole package, then sat beside him with unceremonious grace.

"Hello Emma," Scott glanced to the side once, having already inspected her form before she sat beside him. It was what she'd intended, no doubt. He raised his eyebrows, almost expectantly. "What's happening?" His feet remained crossed on the coffee table, but he drew his arms down from behind his head and rested them so his fingers were laced across his abdomen. Armor up.

Emma mirrored his expression. "Nothing. That's just the trouble." Genuine smile. "I was hoping to stir up a little-"

"Trouble?"

"Conversation." She finished, choosing to ignore Cyclops' accusation. "In the mood to deliberate?"

Scott sighed and shifted his weight so he was better angled to view his company. Despite her wasteful, zealous approaches, she was someone he didn't mind looking at from time to time. "Sure."

Goody! He was going to play. Emma shifted positions then, as well. She leaned forward with her elbows resting delicately on her knees. Her ankles were crossed above her white stilettos. Her chin fell into the cradle her hands made, sitting atop the pillar that her forearms now formed, and her icy blue eyes scanned the red lenses that covered Scott's. "So why the sudden stop in action? You aren't resting up for not-yet-rivaled burst of productive energy, are you?"

He smirked. "I guess you," Emma, Jean, Betsy, the Professor, "can go on for longer than the rest of us. I just needed to do something frivolous for a while." Sitting on his ass seemed the least asinine. He could've actually turned the TV on. That would've been worse. "What're you doing wandering around at this hour? Aren't you usually grading papers or kicking off happy hour?"

Hahaha! "Well, Professor," she batted her lashes, "my homework is all done." She adjusted to make a 'cross my heart' gesture, then returned to resting on her hands. "But if you're up for a drink, Scott, I'd love to join you." Her back straightened, and Emma's hands fell to her lap. She quirked an eyebrow, hopefully.

"I did all of my drinking at the prom." And a lot of it. "Speaking of that," grin, "how's your wine aficionado boyfriend?"

"I'm not sure how you mean?"

"Dominic?"

Oh. "Oh." She smiled politely, as if excusing herself for having forgotten the fellow so soon. "I can't say, I suppose. I haven't spoken to the man much, since."

"Neither have I." She was a trip...

Emma eased her back into the corner of the couch and her exposed calves shifted upward and gently rested against the top of Scott's shins. "That makes the two of us." Her arms spread across the back and arm of the seat and she gazed across to Cyclops for several moments until he spoke again.

"You never give up, do you?" His eyes glanced down at his legs that now supported a pair of smooth, shapely calves.

"Why surrender when you've already won the battle, Scott?" She was dead serious, with little sarcasm or irony in her tone. Her manicured fingers fell from the couch's back down to rest on Scott's left shoulder. "You can't keep the facade up with her forever, you know. She's not an idiot." You're afraid of her. You hate her. You should. Her fingers squeezed sympathetically where they laid.

Jean had been on a break when she sensed something happening two floors above where she was sitting in her office: Emma was playing psych games with Scott.... and the good Doctor had had just about enough of the flaxen-haired telepath's meddlesome behavior in their marriage.

Ever since the prom, the White Queen seemed a bit more determined than usual to steal him away from her - not that she was a viable enough threat for Jean to truly feel that their relationship (hers and Scott's) was in jeopardy. Even so, the redheaded telekine still had the right to feel annoyed by Emma's inappropriate advances on her husband; and Jean was more determined than ever to put a stop to it. Permanently.

Stepping off of the elevator and out into the hallway beyond, Jean paused for a brief more before she made a beeline for the recreational room - where both Emma and Scott were enjoying their little tête-à-tête. It didn't take too long for her tall, leggy silhouette to fill the doorway; she looked upon the twosome with an expression likened disgust settling over her features. Did Emma not have an ounce of dignity or respect left in her - or was she so desperate for a man that she'd be willing to do anything, even if she had to cross a moral line to get what she wanted?

Morality had never been the White Queen's strongest suit, however. This was not news to Jean Grey.

Too proud to let either of them see her with a case sour grapes, Jean's countenance reverted into a more placid one instead. She cleared her throat to announce her arrival to the pair of them and she moved further into the room, and came to a stop just behind the sofa where they were sitting.

It was hard to mask the jealousy she felt writhing like a snake inside her belly, but she really didn't want to sink to Emma's level. That only would've encouraged the woman's asinine behavior even more.

"Good afternoon, Emma," she greeted the other woman, coolly. "It's so nice of you to be keeping my husband company," He must've really been bored if he was indulging in the little hussy's mind games. Like most of the men (and some women) in the mansion, Scott found Emma Frost attractive. And unlike everyone else, Jean failed to see what was so appealing/attractive in the silicone Barbie.

Whether Jean was reading his thoughts or not, he knew he'd been had. It was as if they'd planned it. Women...

Scott hadn't exactly done anything wrong, so he wasn't sure why he was having The Great Debate of '08 in his mind over whether he should snatch his legs out from under Emma's or push her off of him. Or neither? Should he further vilify Emma in Jean's eyes? Well, he certainly didn't want to take any of the heat for this situation. "We were talking about the prom, Jean," Scott explained, "Avalanche." Y'know.

Alright. Despite being not guilty, per se, Cyke was having a hard time letting Emma laze about atop him while Jean stood by, looking on. He pulled his legs down from the table, slowly, giving the blonde plenty of time to respond so that her legs didn't crash to the floor. What she had said mentally was giving him an incredible amount of unease. So he was a bit nervous around Jean... what did that mean? How was he supposed to feel? Giddy that she'd swallowed him whole then spit him back out again? He loved Jean. He still did. But sometimes it was hard to overcome an experience, or feel the same way on the other side. He knew Emma was playing up any advantages she saw, though. He couldn't let her get into his head and steer him away from Jean. If that happened, it would be of his own accord. "You should sit, sweetheart." He gestured between he and Emma, then moved to stand. Maybe he should sit in the armchair...

Emma pouted when Scott had moved to stand. She sighed. Her legs eased back toward her and she tucked them gracefully up under her. She retained her laid back posture, however.

"No problem at all, Dr. Grey." Emphasis on Grey. "Scott and I were just thinking about going and having a drink. I'm sure he wouldn't mind if you joined us?" Her eyes flicked toward Cyclops, as if making sure inviting Jean was okay with him. Her eyes locked with the Phoenix's. You aren't upset we were alone together, are you, Jean? You seemed in an awful hurry to get upstairs... Her eyes wandered from Jean's brown ones, then, and keyed in on Scott's thighs and crotch, as he was standing before her. They say size isn't everything. He knows how to use it, too, doesn't he?

Right. They had been talking about the prom, and then Emma started messing around with his head. Jean hated that she had been psychically eavesdropping on them (especially Scott), she but wasn't about to start underestimating Ms. Frost now; she had to keep an eye on her. The woman was obviously hellbent on getting her claws into Cyclops and she wasn't going to let a little thing like marriage stop her. The White Devil Queen was incorrigible.

You should sit, sweetheart...

"No thanks," Jean said rather curtly, while she came around to stand in front of the couch. Her arms were now crossed just below her bosom and she was watching the two practically untangling themselves from each other.

As Scott moved to stand up from the couch, Jean took a slight step to the left to let him by; he seemed to have the sudden urge to sit on an armchair - not that she could blame him. She could sense how uneasy his mind was now.

"A drink?" she repeated and smirked slightly, while she glanced over at Scott for a moment then back down to her rival; Emma still looked as calm and cool as ever... and that really ticked her off. "I'm sure he wouldn't, but isn't a little early to kick off happy hour?" Like Scott, Jean wasn't much of a drinker and she generally reserved that habit for special occasions... and this certainly wasn't one them.

Not at all, Emma, she lied. Jean wasn't going to explain her reasons for coming back upstairs so quickly, because Emma probably already knew. I guess you'll never know, huh?

Her fellow telepath was trying to get a rise out of her, but the White Queen would have to do better than that to get Jean to react.

Logan passed by the rec room door and spotted Emma, Jean and Cyke having what looked like an awkward moment. It was no secret that Emma had an interested in Scott, so Logan felt absolutely fine with walking by and not giving the situation a second thought. Then again... crap, he'd given it a second thought. Everybody at the mansion remembered the last time Jean lost control of her emotions. Damn it Emma, go outside and play with napalm if you want to get burned.

Logan stopped in his tracks, turned around, walked back and entered the room. This was dumb. Logan and Scott had built up a decent working relationship which he honestly didn't want to damage and Wolverine and Emma had no pretense about being friendly toward each other. She was a bitch and Logan tried to avoid her. As for Jean, well Jean was a different story. But he wasn't going to let Emma cause too much destruction. "Well, this looks cozy..."

'Go to hell, Emma' Scott wanted to say. He didn't, of course. But perhaps she could tell what was on his mind. And it didn't seem she cared. She and Jean were locking glares and Cyke could only assume a mental battle had begun. He hated being a part of it.

"Emma, I really don't-" Oh. Logan was here. He shifted uncomfortably in his chair. "Jean?" his eyes met his wife's and he pleaded with her to not let Emma get a rise out of her. It wasn't worth it. For some reason, Logan's presence made him extremely uncomfortable. Scott felt way too vulnerable for his liking, and it was hard to mask.

Yes yes, happy hour. Whatever. I might know, yet. A threat? Maybe. Emma's eyes glanced to Scott when he began to protest what she assumed had been her explanation of their intentions together. So she'd fibbed a bit. He was watching Jean like a hawk now. He was nearly begging her not to make a scene. Oh, this was delicious. When Logan wandered by, then stopped, she couldn't have been more happy.

Emma raised her eyebrows and peered over the back of the couch. "It's completely cozy, Logan. You should join us. I'm sure Jean wouldn't mind having her boyfriend and husband in the same room." Diamond's blue eyes flicked to Jean. "She's an open-minded woman, after all." Before and after Scott had been out of the picture, Jean hadn't been able to wait to rip into Logan. The Phoenix had been completely unfair to Cyclops, and Emma was going to see to it that he knew there were better options for him. Women who were loyal... women who didn't cheat with mountain men... women who didn't murder their husbands.

Self-control...

Self-control was one of the first lessons (if not the first) one learned when they arrived at the mansion. And it wasn't just limited to their mutations either, it extended to how you behaved towards others as well. Attacking fellow classmates or staff members wasn't something that was taken lightly but, admittedly, Jean was sorely tempted to do so.

Not if I have any say in the matter. As long as she still had breath in her body and she was still married with Scott, Emma would not have him.

Emma Frost seemed to know with buttons to hit and when. The woman was deliberately trying to get her to do something; something that would either end in someone getting hurt... or worse. Jean wasn't completely sure she'd be able to reign herself in, if it got that far. But, it was up to her to choose how this would end and she was determined to take the higher road....

And then Logan entered the room and Emma invited him to join them. Jean suppressed the urge to roll her eyes at the White Queen's words and her stance seemed to become even more rigid.

While the Phoenix might've jumped at the chance to be with Logan, he had never been her boyfriend. Ever. Though Jean had been attracted to him (and still was to some extent), she never would've pursued anything more than casual flirtation with the feral mutant. She, unlike someone in the room, believed in the sanctity of marriage.

"He's not my boyfriend, Emma." He never was. No matter how it looked to an outsider's point of view, Logan and Jean had never been an item. They had flirted and kissed (once or twice) before, but they had never let it get further than that... Would that be considered cheating? Could it be? It was a bit of a gray area as far as she was concerned.

However, having Logan there might even the playing field. He disliked Emma almost as much as she did, after all.

Her gaze shifted back to Scott, who was silently pleading with her to keep her emotions in check; she could hear him. Don't worry, I've got it under control. She hoped.

Crap. "Emma, shut it." Logan wasn't in the mood for her games. Not that this seemed like any ordinary contest for Emma Frost. It felt like Diamond was playing for keeps, which is what was making Logan uncomfortable. They didn't need these two women at each others' throats, especially not after seeing first hand what Jean the Phoenix was capable of. He knew what Emma was getting at. Yes, Logan had spent the better part of his first few years around the mansion trying to win Jean's heart, but it hadn't worked. And then she died, at least it appeared she did. Then she came back and died again. In his arms, by his hand... destroying an island and a countless number of people in the process. Emma didn't know what she was dealing with, the events of that summer had changed the three other X-Men, forever. Both Scott and Jean returning from the grave and Logan having nearly his entire body vaporised. The experience had been like he'd never felt or (hopefully) something he'd never feel again. He'd felt reborn, even with his fractured memory and unknown past, Logan felt as though he was a new man when he walked off Alcatraz island; a feeling that had helped him get over his obsession with Jean. "It's not any of your business Emma, even if you can read our minds." Logan shot back at his fellow Hellion. He wasn't going to let this blow up in any of their faces. His eyes flicked to Scott. 'Put an end to this', he thought to himself.

Okay. That was enough. 'Emma, shut it', said the Wolverine. "I agree." He moved to stand, finally, and stood beside Jean. Emma looked a bit less relaxed now - not so sure of herself.

"We know what happened. We were all there. And you're not cheering anyone up by drudging any of it up. So leave it alone. I don't mind discussing classwork or business with you Emma, but stay out of my head or you'll wish you had." He was threatening on his own behalf. He knew Jean could take care of herself - quite well, as a matter of fact. He turned his head purposefully toward Jean. "You know what's in here, what's real." His had gestured to his temple. Don't think Emma's changing my mind. If something changes for me, it will be from my own deductions and decisions. Not because of Emma's muckraking. He couldn't promise Jean his complete and total devotion and worship and loyalty as he might have back before the Phoenix incident, but for the time being, he was making his peace with what had happened and wanted to be near his wife.

He wanted to storm out of the room, but leaving Logan with Emma and Jean in this state just seemed cruel. Especially after his teammate had just acted like a decent guy. "Why don't you have that drink you were talking about, hm?" He looked into Emma's eyes then and intended to watch them until she left.

Oh, oh! Touchy subject... Emma skimmed Wolverine's thought process as it unfolded and she raised her eyebrows at what she found. Perhaps the Phoenix's spell had been broken - at least for Logan. Was it the same for Scott?

She'd have to find out another day, as it seemed she had overstepped her boundary. Jean's response had amused her, however, and she couldn't help making a mental response. How very junior high of you, Jean. He's not my boyfriend, Emma! Duh! We just pass notes in class.

Scott's words and thoughts left her feeling almost defeated, but his stick-up-ass button had been pushed, and that left her feeling even more attracted to him. Yes, please, Scott. Take charge. She rose from her seat and looked across to Jean and Scott. "I don't think I'll need the drink now." Properly aroused and amused, Emma headed for the exit. When she neared Logan, she brushed against him unnecessarily and muttered, "Maybe I should just get him to stab her. Seemed to work for you..." Swish, click click click. Her heels hit the floor in the hallway.

Jean's eyes narrowed - but only slightly. You're one to talk. Emma was the only one acting like a hormonal, oversexed teenager. It was actually kind of pathetic and sad that someone who thought herself beautiful was clambering a married man, when she could've easily ensnared someone else (someone who was unattached, preferably). Jean supposed Emma thought that forbidden fruit tasted sweeter... That, or she just wanted to royally piss her off.

Either way, it was wrong and she wasn't going to stand for it.

When Scott's words projected into her mind, she felt somewhat better. But, she was still rattled by what she had seen. Whether he had been incredibly bored or not, why had he let her latch onto him like that? And if she hadn't butted into their private conversation, what would've happened? Probably nothing, but still.... it was definitely food for thought.

After a moment or two, it had appeared as if Emma was going to throw in the towel - at least for today.

As Diamond made her exodus from the room, Jean fought the overwhelming urge to follow her out into the hallway.

However, that cool, calm and collected doctor rationale kept her in check. Losing control over someone like Ms. Frost wouldn't be worth it - not for herself nor anyone else, for that matter.

Jean remained silent for a good while longer, before she shifted her attention back to Scott and Logan. It certainly felt odd to be alone in a room with these two again, but it was bound to happen sooner or later.

"I'm truly sorry you felt the need to get in the middle of this, Logan." He could've just kept on walking, but he hadn't. Though she knew it had been out fear that she might've gone subatomic on them again that caused him to backtrack, it still meant a lot to her.

Emma strolled by and Logan ignored her comment. Everybody else in the room knew it wasn't that simple and that was all that mattered. Emma could take a long walk off a short peer for all Logan cared at the moment.

The three were alone... great. This wasn't awkward...

Jean spoke and Logan brushed off her apology. He smiled at the red head, "Guess I'm just used to coming to your rescue." Oh crap. Logan mimicked a cough and tried to forget he'd just said that. "Yeah, well I'd better get going, I was on my way to see Storm." Crap, why did he say that? Wait, why did he feel guilty for saying that? It was the truth. "See ya around." Wolverine turned and made for a quick exit.

On his way out, he realized he did enter the room the save Jean. He didn't care what or who Emma did, even if it was Scott. He cared what happened to Jean, how it would make her feel. Son of a bitch, no he wasn't going to do this. Not again, he was finally happy and Jean was happy. Right?

"More beer," Logan mumbled to himself as he entered the hall. "I need more beer."

Fuck. Scott felt his ass twitch, both literally and figuratively at Logan and Jean's exchange. It might've seemed harmless to any other onlooker, but Scott knew both of them better. He wanted to sling Emma through a window for causing the entire ordeal. His eyes shifted to Jean once Logan had gone and he no longer felt the need to offer her any excuse for his behavior in the presence of Emma - before or after Jean's arrival.

"I can handle things." He told the Phoenix. He could handle Emma all by himself. He didn't need Jean and Wolverine coming to his rescue. Or better yet, Logan coming to Jean's rescue. That chapped his ass. "If you don't want me to talk to Emma, that's fine. But I can handle things." Reiterating with a telepath, always useful...

Yes, because you were handling things so well before I showed up, Jean thought to herself. Maybe she deserved it. Maybe Scott deserved to enjoy a little flirtation with someone else who wasn't his wife for a change. Jean had spent a better part of three years (when she wasn't busy being dead) flirting with Logan, after all.

"I'm sure you can, Scott," she said, looking directly at him now. "I'm not going to to tell you who and who not to socialize with." It'd be unfair, considering they all worked together in the mansion; therefore, it was nearly impossible to not talk to the person in question.

"You talk to Emma whenever you want." Scott wasn't the problem, it was her. Jean didn't trust Emma Frost as she could throw her, and she could toss her pretty fair if she wanted to.
