business as usual...as usual as can be
Kevin had no qualms about being a mutant. Well, when he was but a kid, of course he did. But after everything his powers had shown him, he'd grown to love being mutant and got to understand how natural being one was.

But if there was one thing he hated for being super...it was the fact that mutants recognized no holidays.

Or at least society did not give them special holidays. Even after that strenous protest activity, Kevin had to haul himself off his bed and force himself to work. After midday now, he was sitting on a red-cushioned bench just in front of a door that was left ajar. Voices seeped from the inside of the office.

Wincing on his seat, he arched his back and grunted. his arms up; it still felt pretty bad after he'd collided with the brick wall and not to mention, his shoulder was rather sore. Thank God it was winter and it wasn't stupid to wear narrow collars.

Footsteps started towards the door, Judas the Secretary appeared from the inside, "Mr. Ford?"

Promptly, Kevin dropped his arms and sat up straight (and oh, did that ache some). He looked up to the redhead, smiled quickly then stood up when he gestured for him to come inside the office. He slid the manila envelope off the bench as he did this and with a slight jog, he started towards the door, preparing a good mood.

Jubilee was enjoying the view of Judas exiting the room. She didn't come into work every day - being a somewhat secret superhero did take time and effort - but when she did, she was determined to make the most of it. Sure, that involved things like signing for stuff that only she could, making important yet suitably charming phone calls, meet or smooze with contractors and freelancers (as she was doing today), and last but not least, ogle her secretary's magnificent tush.

If anyone asked, she would swear on her life that she didn't hire Judas for that reason alone.

Unlike other members of the team and a bunch of the opposition, she'd imagine, Jubilee was now well rested from the protest activities. It helped that she hadn't exerted herself, one of the pros of having a completely passive power.

That, coupled with the fact that she had just finished her cup of coffee, was making her feel perky. Not unusually so, but her smile was a few watts brighter when she stood up to greet Kevin. "'Afternoon there." As custom required, a hand was offered for shaking.

"Good afternoon, Ms. Lee," Kevin responded with his own smile, stretching out his hand and holding hers to dip once, shallowly, then pulling it back.

"So uhh," he stepped back a little as he glanced at the envelope he held and then handed it towards Jubilee's way, "Your TV set table. I made the necessary arrangements about the contours and the height and I've also done some colored drafts in case you're ready to see them." and there were a few more details he'd like to discuss with her but he can wait for her to see his plates first before he does that.

Judas said something about hot chocolates before he disappeared.

Never mind that any kind of honourific made her feel so old, there was work to do here. Minimal work, sure, but no reason to go around nitpicking what people called her. At least she could take comfort in the fact that she would not be known as a Mrs anything any time soon.

Jubilee indicated to the three comfortable chairs lining one wall of the office, a small coffee table in front, with a stack of folders and envelopes identical to the one Kevin had handed her. She was supposed to go through all this today, Jubilee remembered as she sat down in one of the chairs, brushing away some papers to make space on the table. All this? Wasn't getting done today.

Motioning for Kevin to sit, Jubilee opened the envelope's flap and let the sketches slide into her hand. She flipped through them with appropriate speed. "Looks good," she nodded, flipping back through the pages to look at some roughly scribbled out measurements, with new ones underneath. "I see you've received the new specifications for the designs. How quickly can you come up with a sample? It's not urgent, but the filler tables we have in its place right now are really not ideal."

Look at her, talking business. This profession Jubilee was a rare occurrence, and it was so difficult to maintain.

Oh, chairs! Soft ones, too. A seat was basically the best thing one could offer Kevin at the moment. He obliged a little too eagerly with a nod as he found his space opposite Jubilee and sat down carefully, making sure that grunt only came out as a breath through his nostrils; he was so tempted to inch back and lean on the cushioned support but that would be inappropriate for his manners.

By the time Jubilee had began to browse through his plates, Judas had returned with his hot chocolate and Kevin gave him a little nod of thanks before he took the mug's arm and lifted the entire thing to sip from, that secretary departing.

Setting down his mug, he said after Jubilee's inquiry: "Well, I'll have to talk to Toni about that first." He cleared his throat before he leaned forward and rested his elbows (ouuuch...) on his thighs, "But in any case, she's expecting a call from me today, anyway, so I should be able to forward that to her and call you up on it as soon as I get a response." Stretching his good arm towards the sketches, he said, "Though I imagine they might have a bit of a hard time with the drawers considering they are pulled out by wheels."

Just because Kevin drew these things didn't mean he had to know what they were called exactly, right? If there was a better word than 'wheels', that is.

"Will you be considering all colors?"

"Well, they've never failed me so far, so I'm sure the wheels won't be too much trouble." Wheels, really? Jubilee hadn't even noticed that. Her attention to detail was sadly lacking, though it shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone.

As for the colours, she stacked the pages haphazardly in a tier, so comparison was made easy. "It's hard not to go with personal preferences," she said conversationally, mentally eliminating the brown. "I'm partial to reds, so it's in almost everything I come across." Case in point, her shoes, completely not sensible in a deep red satin. But it was her office, and she wore whatever she damn well liked.

"All of these will be fine," she pointed to each page, though her point hardly needed emphasising, "except for the brown and the blue. And the silver would be better if it was lighter, if that shade's available."

Jubilee was enjoying the smell of that hot chocolate. Perhaps she would fix herself a cup once this appointment was over.

Oh, and he rather liked the blue one.

No matter, it wasn't like he was the one who was going to pay for this. Kevin nodded at her decision, reaching out towards the unwanted colored drafts so he could take them away from Jubilee's sight. A little wince seeped out of him as he returned to his seat and a quick hand brushed against the skin closer to the small of his back.

Sigh.

"Okay," he said in a bit of a whisper (more just to break the silence) as he slid the silver draft off the bottom and placed it on top and turned it around to be reminded of the lighter-shade-request before he set the stuff beside his mug. "So..." from his pencil lines, Kevin's eyes now looked up towards the woman as he moved his hands a bit, "What else did we miss?"
