sing me the hymns inaudible
"Ladies and gentlemen, once again...Miss Wanda Maximoff."

The sounds of hands pattered into the four walls of Cafe Carlyle as the keys of the piano began its melody and the percussions began its rhythm. Lights dimmed at the mellow tempo of her song but she never lost the glow where she stood. Swaying some as she waited for her cue, Wanda's eyes swept through the evening's crowd and she had a small smile to her face...perhaps something akin to a subtle smirk as a hand flew to rest on her mic. For this night, she wore a dark gown that shone a favorable shade of marroon as the light touched it where she moved.

Reaching out to her audience, Wanda began her song, her voice round and bold as she canted her head a bit to a side. Her swaying continued if only on stronger motions and she soon fell to blend with the music that she sang. Had this been some years ago, she would have played with her voice and turned it to light to surround her and give her a golden aura.

But these days, the people were more knowledgeable and though her powers were subtle, she was not going to risk it.

Still, Wanda imagined herself glowing in her own light. Even if her audience didn't see it, in her mind, behind closed eyes, she glew and she was bright...and she smiled in her own invisible light.

"The dark nights to come -- so kiss me for good-bye. The grace of the godland is near to you..."

[ Open to: Everyone ]

OOC: Yuki Kajiura - Lullaby -- but I imagine Wanda's voice a little higher than that.

"Pietro," welcomed the security as Pietro slipped into the dark cafe and chose a spot near the back, first because it was close to the door and second because it was far away from the other audience. He was late.

This wasn't Pietro's first show, he has been to almost every single show Wanda has performed and will continue to do so until either he died or she stopped performing. Hopefully, not for a very long time. He enjoyed watching Wanda sing, even if it was a song he's heard countless times before. He enjoyed the enjoyment he received from watching Wanda performed more than he did the actual singing. Truthfully, the music faded into the background as he sat, chin in one hand, peering up at the stage.

Someone came by with a drink and he looked up, "Thank you." It was what he drank every time he came to see Wanda sing. The staff here knew him almost as well as they knew Wanda.

There was a part somewhere right before the middle of the song where the piano took on a solo and this was the moment Wanda saw her brother sulking in the dark corners of the cafe when she opened her eyes. Since she was already smiling, the tips of her lips simply moved higher up and anyone can tell the delight from her eyes at his presence.

"Show me the flowers invisible..." she sang again when her cue came, tilting her head to the same direction as her eyes wandered from face to face. It was probably much to her and her brother's luck that her lover had an early shift the next day so had left a little into her previous two songs. This should save them some ire for the night, she figured.

The song took on a higher note and Wanda moved according to the pitches, hitting them just right as the words formed and echoed out of her mouth. Pretty soon, she would be singing the words 'So close to you...' in an ending note and her hand swept over to gesture to Pietro until the song finished.

And then another round of polite applause as Wanda thanked her audience with nods and a curtsey. She'd talked to her back-up band before she left the stage by which time they began playing an instrumental jazz piece as she approached the night's host. Normally, this sudden break would be 'uncalled for' but as she has been giving them satisfactory performances and well, to call Pietro a 'regular' was to underestimate his record of visits, they let it pass.

"Pietro," Wanda called to her brother as she jogged over to him, sharp heels on deep carpet, and bent to press a kiss on his cheek. "You came!" though she was not surprised, it was just a pleasant thought in itself to be left unsaid. Sitting beside him as she gestured for the waitress to bring down her drink, she imitated the way her brother held his head, "How did I do?"

Pietro heard the song but did he really hear the song? Nope. He had long ago stopped listening to the music, instead he focused on Wanda, watching her enjoy herself and for him, that was enough. Finishing his drink before she finished her song, Pietro watched her approach with a small smile on his lips, the one reserved solely for Wanda and half-lifted out of his seat and turned a cheek to accept her kiss.

"Wonderful, as always," his answer rarely (if ever) changed.

Reaching into his pocket, Pietro pulled out a little box wrapped in silver trim and handed it over to his sister.

"Here, open it."

She loved her brother -- there was to be no doubt on that.

A look of amazement washed over Wanda's face as her lips parted wide enough to form an 'O' with her mouth and she grinned so widely and sparklingly as slender digits laid claim on the little box her brother had handed to her. She had never lost this kind of excitement, always doting on presents like these.

"What is it?" she asked despite the fact that her nails have so expertly managed to ease out the restraints of the little magical box her brother had given her and before he could even answer, her eyes would have landed on the thing as she pulled the lid off.

Pietro was pleased with Wanda's reaction, so pleased he allowed himself to smile, to really smile, not the fake act he had been passing off as a smile for so long now. The smile lasted for barely a second for disappearing off of his face. To be honest, the act felt a little strange, the emotion sitting weirdly on his face.

"A gift, of course!" Inside was a diamond necklace; a long and slender silver chain with a small clasp holding up what looked like a diamond star, five pointed edges shined brightly against the plush dark interior of the jewelry box.

It was so obviously expensive. Pietro had done well these last few months in his latest endeavors and liked to show this off by buying Wanda (and himself) expensive and beautiful gifts. He expected her to wear it around...

Oh, but Pietro wouldn't even have to say that out loud. There was no doubt the diamond necklace was going to be a constant accessory until he finds a new, better one to spoil her with. Wanda's eyes were frozen on the crystalline pendant while her fingers carefully stroked it.

Already, she was scheduling the times when she would wear it and when she would not. Missions and casual get-outs are out of the question. Expensive dinners, her performances and anything else will be accompanied by this necklace, however.

Wanda looked at her brother with the same smile...then said, "I love it." She plucked the thing out, held it by both hands, then handed it to her brother. "Put it around me!" There was to be no waiting to wear this jewelry.
