Behold the Brotherhood (tag any bad guys)
Where: Brotherhood secret lair place, common room
What: Looking in on the kiddies
Status: in progress
Rating: PG-13

Mystique wandered into the common room of the Brotherhood and looked around. As bad as things were, she felt vindicated. The flesh bags had forced her to be 'cured'. Let them reap the benefits now. She found it wonderfully ironic that making the 'cure' had created a weapon that was destroying them. Already a large portion of homosapiens were either dead or cannibals. Being a mutant usually meant that you had a better chance of surviving, so the ratio between their numbers had most likely been evened out. Sure a few mutants here and there were being taken out by the cannibals or a few paranoid humans. A small price to pay for what may just be the turning point in their struggle. All they needed to do was survive and then they could rebuild, this time with mutants in charge.

Demon looked up as Mystique entered. He smirked and slunk out of the chair and onto his feet. "And now look. The cat has caught a canary. Can this poor humble lad know what has put such a smile on your face? Could I hope that it is the prospect of spending some quality time with me?"

Raven gave him a stern look. "Remember yourself Demon." she said coldly. Then added with a smile. "Just thinking about how the human government has fallen to their own creation. I look forward to the future we will make." She looked around. "Does anyone know where Magneto is?"

Demon backed off quickly at the rebuke. In some contrast to Mystique's obvious enthusiasm, he looked strangely pensive. He hadn't been able to get laid in a long time and it was wearing on him. He never considered himself a nympho, despite his brother's worried glances, but it almost felt like he was going through withdrawal. He hadn't seriously gone after anyone in the group, just some light teasing. When he had joined with Mystique, she had warned against doing that, but it had been so long and things had certainly changed. He didn't have the option of finding some hapless human to scratch that itch and feed off of. And then there was his brother to worry about. He didn't want his brother to be in any danger.

Comfortably ensconced in an armchair in the corner, Wanda had hung onto every word of this short exchange, curiosity getting the better of her even as she pretended her book alone held her attention. The pretense wasn't terribly convincing to anyone who bothered to glance her way, however. Her eyes continued to dart over the leather cover, gaze shifting silently between Demon and Mystique as her pale fingers lay splayed over the pages, her reading abandoned.

Past grudges tended to taint her opinion of Mystique, distorting any chance of feeling a connection to the other woman. Just at the moment, however, Wanda found herself strangely amused by Mystique's brusque, businesslike demeanor toward Demon.

"He went out," she supplied helpfully from her corner, lowering the heavy book so it rested open on her lap. Glancing at the clock at her elbow she calculated quickly in her head and added, "About an hour ago. More or less."

"He didn't see fit to mention--" she broke off, embarrassed by the emotion that had crept into her voice. Hastily, she tried again. "That is, he didn't mention where he was going." Wanda concluded in a reasonably polite tone, gaze resting on Mystique calmly.

"I told him," Sabretooth intervened, giving a snort between phrases, "that we'd been buried in cannibals in a week. I guess he went to think." His tone was slightly amused by the conclusion of his sentence, but a snarl emerged on his features as he neared Demon. His eyes shifted from Mystique to some of the others who were lounging about, being lazy of course. He'd been out all day hunting the infected down and scouting out all their hidey-holes. What the hell did everyone else do, besides worry? At least Mystique was good for a lead.

"Seems an underground lair in the middle of a city isn't the best place t'be when there're dark-seekin', hopped-up monsters trying to eat everything that moves."

A swift gust of wind.

"I thought you'd be right at home," said Pietro as he slowed to visible speeds, coming to stand right next to Wanda at her chair. No other glance about was given as he handed her a small leather satchel with a single nod and then turned to face the assembled, hands clasped behind his back.

"I have ascertained that it would take a great deal more than animal instinct to get into our current location. It would take numbers and I'm sure those who were subjected to that so-called 'cure' have been careful enough not to lead anyone back to our location should they be shaking hands with the human population." It almost sounded like a compliment, or as far as Quicksilver came to such things; he didn't even look at Mystique.

"Is he back?," he asked Wanda.

"Numbers they got, Gray." 'Silver' made him sound special. Toad wadded the news scrap he'd been eyeing and quirked an eyebrow at the twins general behavior. So impatient. And dumb. "It don't matter if anyone's led 'em here. If they hear somethin', smell somethin' - anythin', they'll be on us. They've taken most of the sewers and workin' undergrounds [subways] and're headed this way, children." Oh, that tasted good. He loved being in the know. It also helped frequently over-hearing private conversations.

He hunched over a bit where he was crouched and scooped up the scrap that he'd dropped, then tossed it toward Victor. "Look it my horoscope. Says I should avoid meetin' new people and to avoid group settings." A wide smirk spread across his green lips and he shifted back in a hip-hop manner into a chair behind him. His eyes shifted to Rogue, then, and he cleared his throat, "An' you, love, said you'll get with an' old friend." Morty wriggled his eyebrows at the brunette and shot her a wink. If only he could...

Rogue has been sitting in own little dark corner, reading a book she had been carrying around with her since leaving the mansion a few months prior to joining the Brotherhood. She must have read it at least a dozen times by now, being that she hadn't ventured out into the public much since her recruitment. And with the way things were looking now, she was beginning to think becoming a hermit was worth it. If not being able to touch people upset her, just imagine how horrible she felt now that she knew she didn't even have to lie a finger on someone to infect them with some godforsaken virus?

"You wish," she had muttered quietly, while her dark eyes peered furtively over the top of the book to look over at where Toad was crouching. Really, Rogue was used being leered at and hit on by Toad. It was no secret that the slimeball had some sort of crush on her. But, she knew he took to hitting on anything that was mobile and was female. So, it didn't make her feel remotely special. And even if he did have only have eyes for her, she'd still be repulsed by it.

But, hearing that bit about what her horoscope said did intrigue her - slightly. Rogue used to be heavily into that stuff (Astrology) before she found out she was a mutant. In fact, she used to own several books on Astrology and Numerology, which she used to consult almost everyday. She had even become a bit of a believer back in the day. Though, as she got a little older (and more jaded), she became a bit more skeptical in the powers the stars had over their lives. But, occasional, the daily horoscope was uncannily accurate.

Setting her book off to the side (not even bothering to save her spot), she stood up. "An old friend? Ah wonder who that migh' be?" Her Southern drawl creeping out with each syllable spoken. The longer she had been away from the mansion, the more she sounded like her old-self. It was funny how that sort of thing worked.

"Just hope that friend isn't some human who got the virus." Thorn opined as he entered the room. He looked a bit more worn out that usual. His verdant green hair was a bit brownish at the ends due to stress. Part of the defenses of the lair were some well tended greenery that were his responsibility. He had been having to repair the damage done by those who had tried to get past it. Granted the bodies made for good fertalizer but he was getting worn out and felt like he hadn't had a good soak in the sun for ages.

Thorn pulled his hand through his hair and small bits at the end flaked off and fell to the ground. He headed over to Mystique. "They're getting further and further through our defenses. I'm not sure how long it's going to keep them back." he whispered to her. He didn't feel much of a need to spark any panic. "I've gotten some supplies ready for transport if we need to head out quickly." He had also been somewhat responsible for making sure they had food. Greens at least. Meat was someone else's job. Right now, he had plenty of seeds and seedlings packed up along with regular food to set up shop somewhere else in case they had to go.

Mystique let her eyes roam over the brotherhood as she took in the information offered. She did just manage to keep back a smirk at Wanda's ire. Raven could tell the girl was jealous of her closeness to the Magneto. A closeness that was no where near as close as had existed before Raven was cured and abandoned.

She did give a nod to Sabretooth. She knew just how much she could trust that mutant. She was pretty sure she had the measure of most of the mutants here. Rogue didn't seem quite committed to either faction of the group. Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch would go with Magneto. She had Thorn and Demon for sure. She could almost split the team down the middle with who would go where.

Even without the split, the x crew outnumbered them. Which is why, despite her anger at Eric, she had decided to keep working with him. She still felt he was right, at least more right than Xavier, about what they needed to do.

"It seems like Magneto has good reason to want some time to himself to think about this matter." She looked over the room again. "Try to behave yourselves children. I'm going to go and give him an update."

It would take a lot more than that to get Pietro to acknowledge Demon was in the room, especially with Mystique's wandering about the room to size the lot of them up like a playground kickball team.

The moment Mystique brought her face to look towards the exit, Pietro was instantly blocking her view. "Now, now...," he said with a tip of his head. "No need to be hasty." He took a very pointed step towards the exit, never turning his back on her. "I'll inform him that we're assembled."

There was no way he would let the woman near Magneto by herself, in the dark, with a perfectly reasonable alibi as to why he might be torn to shreds.

"Someone needs to mind the defenses," he told her and before she could form a reply, all that was left of Quicksilver was a stiff short breeze.

"Good boy." She said to his rapidly disappearing back. In truth, Quicksilver was the best one to go looking as he could cover more ground in less time. However, the boy just didn't seem to take a liking to her and she knew better than to ask outright. And for some reason he seemed worried about her being alone with Eric. Well, ok, there might be a good reason for that. In different circumstances at a different time perhaps.

She sauntered over to a seat near Sabretooth and leaned back comfortably. Then she looked between the large man and Toad. The old crowd. "Can I assume we are safe until nighttime at least?" she asked the assembled crowd. She knew that the cannibals usually were inactive during the day, hiding in their lairs, unless something attracted their attention.

Demon gave a little pout over at the Wanda. His attention was quickly diverted from her little pity party as Sabretooth entered. Now there was a man who exuded power, strength and danger. He risked a smirk over in his direction. That man could rip him in two without a thought.

Pietro, however, wasn't half as dangerous and a good deal more fun to tease. "I wasn't aware that you knew all that much about animal instincts, Quick." He leaned against a wall nearby Pietro and Wanda. "Perhaps we can get together and have a nice 'discussion' about them."

A quick nod in response to her brother's question had been Wanda's only contribution to this little impromptu meeting. She much preferred to sit back and observe, eyes shifting warily over the others, never resting long on any of them. Thorn's rather dire words caused her to stir uneasily in her chair, but otherwise she was happy to fade into the background and let the others battle it out.

Mystique's dismissive words instantly attracted Wanda's full attention. Irritation was clear on her face but she bit back the sharp retort that sprang to her lips.

She welcomed the distraction of Demon's words, turning in her chair to face him fully. Her eyes glanced over to Pietro, assuming he would respond for the two of them but it was clear her brother was busy tangling with Mystique.

"My brother seems to have... other ideas," she said lightly, almost apologetically to Demon. "Not entirely 'nice' ones, I think."

Demon pouted, seriously pouted as Quicksilver ignored him. If it wasn't for Mystique, and Magneto as well, he might be tempted to show the svelte lad just how good he could make him feel. Instead he draped himself over the chair Wanda was in.

"Awww..." He replied. "That hurts me. It does... to the core." He leaned back to place his hand over his heart. "Right here." Then slumped down again. "Let me know, little witch, can you divine if there is any hope for the two of us? If not, are you available for a good... courting?" He grinned devilishly.

Wanda had to stifle a laugh at Demon's expression, rather enjoying this grandiose display of disappointment. He was so different from the more stoical members of the Brotherhood; one could always count on Demon to keep things interesting.

"I don't think I need to consulate the tarot cards to tell you the answer is no," she responded quietly with a sympathetic smile, cocking her head to the side to take in his tragic posture. She glanced quickly around the room, making sure her brother was well and truly absent before adding:

"And I do hope I misunderstood that last remark. You surely didn't mean to imply that I am some sort of runner-up when Pietro is unavailable?"

"And you keep crushing my poor delicate heart." he bemoaned. He let his arm drape down next to her.

He smirked and leaned down so his breath tickled her ear. "Of course. I ALWAYS love the one I'm with." At least for as long as he was physically with them. He brought his hand up to stroke her cheek.

Before he could touch her, a hand reached out and grabbed Demon's arm. Thorn scowled at his brother. "Demon." he warned. "Watch yourself." He knew what his brother's touch could do.

Demon took a step back and laughed. "Hey, we're all on the same side here, brother. No harm meant." He looked appraisingly between his brother and Wanda.

Thorn let go as Demon stepped back. He frowned then sighed. "Sorry." It was his brother after all. "I'm sure I overreacted." He wasn't sure about that at all. His brother seemed to be getting more antsy lately.

Demon sat down in a nearby chair and examined the two of them, Thorn still standing next to Wanda's chair. He smirked. "Perhaps... I may have no luck with your brother." He leaned in to whisper. "How about the old man? He seems to be in pretty good shape for his age." He smirked. "That is, if you aren't interested yourself."

Wanda had rather enjoyed the light flirtation with Demon thus far. It was so rare that she was the focus of attention, and really, he seemed harmless and decidedly charming. Something changed in the air, however, right before Thorn grabbed his brother's arm that made her welcome this unexpected intervention.

There was just something... unsettling about the way Demon's gaze traveled between her and Thorn. She felt her spine straighten even as she could not quite manage to meet his eyes. She focused on her hands instead, busy playing with the loose folds of her skirt.

The sound of Thorn's voice finally brought her head up, an uncertain expression hovering over her features. She glanced out of the corner of her eyes at him, watching the interplay of emotions against his face intently. Had he overreacted, she wondered, or was she more indebted to him for the sudden, impromptu rescue than she knew? Demon's next words cut off this thoughtful musing, attracting her attention which had previously been focused so intensely on his brother.

“I doubt any of my family would be interested,” she replied coolly, eyebrows raised fractionally, the time of finding him rather charming long having past. “But by all means, perhaps you should mention the notion to my father directly. I would be very interested in seeing his reaction.”

Demon smirked. "THAT is just because none of you know me well enough yet." He purred. He doubted that anyone could forget him once he had slept with him. There was no way, in his mind, that they could ever have a better time with anyone else. His mutant power practically guaranteed it. "I have faith that time and experience would have then and you changing your tunes."

He was watching his brother out of the corner of his eye as he spoke to the red head. He gave her a wink. "Then I shall have to make sure you are around when I make the proposition." He leaned back and admitted. "While you are a vision, I must say that I am just a wee bit more enamored by your other family members." The male ones. He always preferred male.

Thorn sighed and noticed the questioning look Mystique gave him. He gave an almost invisible shrug. He had an idea but he wasn't exactly sure about what Demon was on about. Of course, if he was right... then there was good reason for the worry eating at him right now. He didn't need this. He felt wasted... hated the city... and now he had to deal with his brother.

He shifted uncomfortably as Demon kept it up. He didn't notice it, but he had moved so that he was between Wanda and Demon, closer to Demon in case something... happened. Unseen by his brother, he mouthed to Wanda. "Sorry." and did a small head jerk in his brother's direction.

Wanda looked decidedly taken aback by Demon's posturing, wondering abstractly just how far his ability did extend. She wished Pietro was here, he would know just the quelling remark to shoot down Demon's display of masculine bravado. As it was she simply remained icily silent, tilting her chin up in the air as if Demon's words didn't disturb her in the least.

Her taunt, stony expression softened slightly as she caught Thorn's eye, even before his mouthed apology. She wondered anew at the remarkable differences between the twins, and wondered if they were capable of sharing the same bond that she and her brother did. Judging from what Thorn had told her in the past, it certainly seemed like the two were close.

She let out a little sigh and managed a small smile at Thorn, clearly not blaming him for his brother's peculiar actions. Resentment fell away and she was even able to glance back at Demon with a reasonable calm expression, still remaining safely silent.

ooc: in response to this post: Mystique.

"Might as well be night right now," Sabretooth muttered to the blue woman. "We're safe as long as we wanna be. But it doesn't change the fact that it fucking sucks out there. Unless the kid doesn't find Magneto, we could stay here until we ran outta things t'eat," his eyes happened across some of the juicy, young, female things in the room.

He'd had a long day, a run-in with some X-Brats and a freakin' weird little snapper that smelled crazy. He couldn't get the scent out of his nose or brain, and he'd tried. On his way back down to the lair, he'd stepped into a few darker corners of the woods and found a few necks to snap and faces to bust in. Despite it all, he still couldn't shake the smell. Maybe it was the face. No. It was the smell.

He was shaken from his thoughts by the arrival of Magneto Junior. The silver-haired kid was staring out into nothing, and then nothing wasn't visible anymore. His hair stood on end. "What's goin' on, Gray?" he growled.

Morro rarely participated in pow-wows pertaining to the group's physical situation. Or any, for that matter. She knew what was going on, for the most part, without having to pry. Without being under a thumb like Xavier's, it was a lot easier to acquire necessary information.

She was still in the dark, however, when it came to the black and white of it all - their next location. She supposed Magneto didn't know, himself.

When Sabretooth moved in his seat where he was lounging near Mystique and Toad, she turned her head to look at the entrance. Quicksilver was alone. Her eyes shifted from side to side and she stared blankly at the back of his shining hair. She wanted to hear the words from his mouth before she was forced to dive into his emotional baggage.

Tabby hadn't been paying attention to anything that was being said. Instead she was too busy listening to her portable CD player, popping bubblicious bubble gum and watching everyone's mouths move almost in sync with with the lyrics being sung (or shouted.) It wasn't like she didn't know what they were all discussing with such urgency. It was fucking 28 Days Later out there; what else would they be talking about? Sunshine, rainbows, and puppies? Contrary to popular belief, Tabitha Smith was no idiot, even though she played the part of the aloof, ``dumb`` blonde to perfection.

Perhaps Tabby wasn't intelligent in the conventional sense, but she possessed a fair degree of intellect in street smarts. How do you expect she survived out on the streets so long? By knowing when the The United States Constitution was first established, or who Winston Churchill was? No. That stuff really didn't matter when you were trying to stay alive.

Spotting something silvery in her peripheral vision, Tabby turned her head slightly, while removing one of the ear pieces from her portable CD player from her ear. Something was up, obviously; especially seeing that Magneto was nowhere in sight. She wasn't even thinking that their leader abandoned them, because that would've been a really stupid move on this part. And like it or not, Magneto wasn't so unintelligent. In fact, the guy was brilliant, even if she thought he was a few cards short of a deck sometimes.

Thorn wasn't the only one who noticed Demon's behavior going a bit further than it should. She saw Thorn interfere and raised a questioning brow. If anyone could understand what went on in Demons head, other than a telepath, it would be his brother. It seemed it was something she would have to look in on, but not right now, nor right here in front of everyone.

She forced herself to remain relaxed as she nodded to show Creed that she was listening to him. "Good." She replied. She watched as his attentions strayed and was chilled that she couldn't tell if he was looking at the women as a meal or as possible recreation. She just wished she knew the feral mutant a bit better.

And then the young speedster returned, without Magneto. Raven schooled her face to look unsurprised. What was going on here? Well, the others would make sure Pietro spilled the word soon enough. It wasn't like he was one to wait long for anything anyways. She just settled for looking as if she had already known whatever would be announced.
