Welcome back Phoenix
Who: Phoenix, Storm, Diamond and Iron Man
When: Friday November 16, 2007; Afternoon
Where: X-Mansion
What: Tony comes to visit
Status: In Progress
Rating: PG-13

Tony was nervous, though for a completely different set of reasons than any normal person might think. He tried to keep from thinking about it too hard as he directed the nose of his silver Audi down the tree-lined drive that lead to Xavier's. Being around telepaths when you were nervous about things didn't usually bode well. That usually meant talking, and admitting, and Tony didn't care to talk or admit anything on that subject, truth be told.

Putting his worry away, the dark headed man pulled his car up to the front of the house, and focused his brain on other more pressing things. Jean Grey-Summers was back, and while Tony had been off saving the world from one thing or another in the past week, he hadn't gotten a chance to stop by and welcome the woman back home.

He skipped up the steps two at a time, and then paused at the door long enough to send a mental signal to the locks before he pushed his way through. Jean was sure to be.. ah.. there she was. With little more than a thought, Tony tapped into the security cameras in the Mansion and located his quarry.

Stepping into the sitting room, Tony couldn't help but get a big grin on his face as he laid eyes on his old friend. "Damn, Red. You're looking good.." he said aloud, before he stepped fully through the door and moved towards her. Tony wore a t-shirt and some jeans under a leather jacket, a pair of sneakers on his feet. "Mind if I sit? Came by to catch up.. It's been a while."

After coming back from the dead a week ago, Jean had been more or less been keeping to herself. She hadn't gone back to her duties as an in-house physician, so needless to say she had a lot more time on her hands. Most of that time was spent either up in her room or downstairs... in the sitting room or rec room whenever it was empty, which didn't happen very often.

This just happened to be one of those rare occasions.

Jean had been curled up on a chair, reading... nothing, actually. She had gone in there with the intent to read the book she had brought along with her, but it still lied on the table, untouched. However, Tony's voice permeated through her silent reverie and snapped her right back into the here-and-now, where she truly belonged; so many things had been weighing heavily upon her mind, that she been making a habit of adopting a thousand-mile stare.

Blinking some of those stray thoughts away, Jean sat up a bit straighter and forced a smile to appear in the corner of each side of her mouth.

"Damn, Red. You're looking good." Really? Did she? The redheaded telekine hadn't really been thinking much about her appearance lately; she had no one to impress these days. And even if she did, she really didn't feel like taking the time to make herself look pretty.

Depression and guilt did that to you.

Still, it was nice to see someone who genuinely seemed to be happy to see her.

"Please," she replied, gesturing for him to take a seat. "It certainly has been a while." In fact, Jean couldn't recall the last time she had seen or heard from Tony.

"It's really good to see you again."

It didn't take a telepath to see that Jean was upset about something. Tony raised a brow only a fraction, and then flopped down onto the couch next to her and extended an arm across the top of it.

Smirking some, Tony decided to go for the indirect route - get Jean smiling and laughing before he got into the heavy stuff. "I hear you made a miraculous recovery.. Had to come see it with my own two eyes.." he then said, before reaching out to grasp Jean by the shoulders, taking a good look at her. Slowly, he let his hands slide down her arms then, down towards her hands where he slid his left hand's fingers into hers. Tony was always overly affectionate, but it didn't mean anything. Tony was just that way.

Although.. His right hand looked normal, despite the fact it didn't feel normal. In fact, it felt a tad cold and cold like metal. The palm had some sort of glass part on it as well. Giving Jean's hand a squeeze, Tony lifted his looks-normal-but-doesn't-feel-that-way hand up and pushed it through his hair.

"A lot of stuff has happened since you were.. gone." he then said, totally relaxed, totally himself. Tony didn't hold back anything, rarely censored himself, he usually was a what you saw was what you got kind of guy as long as you were his friend. As the Gemini that he was, Tony was a study in contrasting forces. If you didn't know him well enough, you'd never think he was anything more than his billionaire playboy reputation.

"Not only around the X-Men, but all over.. A lot has happened with me - shit." Tony raised his odd hand up, the right one, and wriggled the fingers, "Lost my hand and hacked my brain. Among other things."

"I don't know about miraculous," she said, but if Tony thought it was a miracle, then so be it. "But I'm here." It was Jean this time, not the Phoenix. Contrary to popular belief, there was a difference between the two, even if many of the others within the mansion thought otherwise.

She might not have had her telepathic abilities at the present moment, but it didn't take a psychic to know how most of her (former?) colleagues felt. They were stunned, shocked and bemused by her, ah, miraculous recovery, as Tony had so eloquently put it. Some probably were even thinking that she shouldn't even be aloud to remain within the school. There was the students' safety to consider, after all....

Jean's eyes closed for a moment, when her old friend laid his hands on her; it felt so good to be touched without the other person visibly flinching on the other end. She really did miss the closeness, but she could hardly blame her other friends/colleagues for not wanting to go anywhere near her. She had done some terrible things before she had died.

However, her eyes opened when she finally realized that his right hand felt... different. Luckily, she didn't have wait much longer for an explanation.

"I thought something was different..." At least she knew she wasn't losing her mind, at least; so that was something. "How did you lose your hand?"

When he had pulled back some (but his hand still remain atop of hers), Jean shifted her weight slightly, giving him her full attention.

Tony just chuckled at Jean, his hand on hers giving a squeeze. "It's miraculous anytime someone dies and then comes back, love." he said in a voice that was gravel covered in velvet. "I'm just happy you're back - I missed Cosmos and Shoe Shopping."

Winking playfully, he willed the hologram away from the metal of his hand, allowing Jean to see the distinctive red and gold gauntlet of his Iron Man suit, complete with repulsor in the palm. It mated up to the flesh of his forearm, halfway down from his elbow almost seamlessly.

"I got this fighting some asshole who was hopped up on Extremis. Before I was." replied Tony, smirking. "He crushed my hand.. nothing really could have been done to save it. With Extremis it works for me just like a real one. I get sensor feeds and other interesting bits of information. I outfitted it with the hologram technology from my suit so I didn't have to answer too many questions."

Jean wished she felt the same about being back, but she refrained from commenting about it. Instead, she tried her best to look something along the lines of being happy and/or amused and focused her attention elsewhere.

"I have to admit that I'm impressed," she said. Tony loved fiddling with new technologies and improving the old ones, but he just seemed to be getting more and more creative. "Hopefully the media won't try to pry too deep." Tony Stark was always in the news in some form or another, but they really enjoyed writing about his personal life.

And if they learned about him losing his hand? Hardly Pulitzer award-winning stuff, but it'd still make a hot story and people would be gossiping about it for weeks, at least.

Looking at her, Tony raised an elegant brow and let his lips curl into a smirk. Jean was hiding something, he could tell. Not that Tony was good at reading people, but he was at least good at reading his friend.

And something was bothering Jean.

Looking around the room as if the walls had eyes, Tony scooted in a bit closer to Jean and then went to give her a stage whisper, "We should get outta here.. The warden'll catch us being naughty and then we'll both get put in solitary for sure."

He hopped to his feet and offered Jean a wide grin as he said "At least come get out of the house for a few and we'll grab a coffee or something. Sound fun?"

What wasn't bothering her these days? Jean honestly didn't know how to handle the situation at the mansion. It was awkward, at best. And she really didn't know how much longer she could continue residing there until one (or all) of them decided it was time to rehash everything that happened before she had died.

Scott was dead.

The Professor was dead.

It was bound to happen sooner rather than later. All she could do was lie low and pray that things blew over, but she wasn't going to hold her breath or anything.

Jean snorted slightly at Tony's words. Despite how she was feeling and everything she was keeping bottled up, deep inside, he was still able to get her to laugh.

Figures, she thought to herself, grinning inwardly.

"Coffee sounds good."

Maybe getting out of the mansion for a while would do her some good? Fresh air and all that.
