A huntin' we will go...
Who: Wolverine; tag Cannonball, Levity, Zap + 1 (open)
When: Friday, January 15th, 2010 (9:37pm)
Where: Xavier's / NYC bar
What: Huntin' vampires
Status: in progress
Rating:  R

The freezing wind of a mid-January night tore past Logan's face as he pushed his motorcycle beyond sixty miles per hour. Stark trees lined the winding rural highway which led him further into the cold and barren New York state wilderness. His most recent high speed pursuit found him on the tail of a cherry red mustang driven by a vampire he had only just had the pleasure of meeting.

Beside the roar of his own engine and that of the vamp's ride, a third vehicle could be heard. Wolverine knew it was a expertly tuned hum of an X-Hummer which contained the rest of his team. 'At least they're keeping up', he thought to himself. He couldn't be sure because he had not seen his teammates pile back into the Hummer, but it seemed like Zap must be driving. He didn't hear the hoots and hollers that usual accompanied a Cannonball-driven vehicle.

Three Hours Prior (6:30pm)

Logan jogged down the steps of Xavier's with a purpose: he just gotten off the phone with a waitress at one of the local bars Logan had been frequenting. It was the main establishment of a small rural community that had sprung up northwest of Salem Center. He knew they were having a problem with a group of Upir-infected mutants and they were a bit too far off the beaten path for the already stretched-thin military. The last time he'd been there, he'd left them a number to call that would get them directly to his line if anything else happened. Well, another woman in the town had gone missing the night before, and there was no doubt in anyone's mind that it was the vampires.

Once on the first floor of the school, Logan made his way toward Levity's office. Without knocking he grabbed the knob and pushed the door open. His eyes meet the empath's and he didn't bother to notice if someone's head was in the process of gettin' shrunk. "Come on, we got work. Garage in five, bring a coat." Logan didn't wait for Eddie's acknowledgment or possible refusal and without closing the door he had opened, Logan continued his brisk pace toward the garage. 'There's crowd control', he thought as he tapped the earpiece resting on the side of his head. "Cannonball, garage in five. Dress causal." There's his pyrotechnics, but he still needed his ace-in-the-hole. Too bad Gambit wasn't around... He tapped the earpiece a second time, "Anyone else for a huntin' trip?" Logan said as he entered Xavier's garage and pulled his jean jacket of the hook by the door and rifled through the pockets for the motorcycle keys. As he spoke, a car was pulling into an empty space near him. As the driver's side door opened he called out to the electrokine behind the wheel (Zap). "Your husband mind if I take you out?" Who needs a Cajun when you've got an vampire bug zapper?

Current Time (9:40pm)

It had only taking a couple hours of drinking (mostly Logan), darts (mostly Zap), and flirting (mostly Sam) for the few of the local vamps to make an appearance. After a brief stand off with the X-Men, two lay decapitated and the third left alive to lead the team back to his nest; if he was that dumb, anyway. Of course these weren't just a group of mindless Darkseekers, these were mutants with most of their marbles and of course Upir-heightened mutant powers. They may not see the X-Men as too much of a threat, but Logan was counting on that. They left the crowd at 'the Tavern' a bit stunned (but mostly faux-calm), and headed out behind the survivor. Luckily, no one was singed (Sam) or fried (Zap) [other than the clumsy frycook].

The mustang cut off the highway and down a side road, Logan tightened his grip on the brakes and shifted his weight quickly, and took the sharp turn at what One-Eye would probably consider an unsafe velocity. Less than half a mile from the highway, the car came to abrupt stop in front of a normal looking two-story home. Logan came to a stop at the end of the gravel driveway and the back tire fish tailed to the right, spraying rocks and dust into the air and leaving him perpendicular to the house. The vamp had already barreled through the front door and was yelling to his friends. Wolverine brought down the kickstand with his foot and dismounted his mechanical steed. He recalled something someone had said back in the bar early. 'Kinda feels like the ol' west out here, ya know? Away from the cities.' As Logan waited for either the vampires to make a move or the rest of his posse to arrive, those words circled his brain. That was just fine by him. A little frontier justice was right up his alley.

She'd come to the mansion that particular evening to visit Sentient, aka Conlan, aka Booger. However, Zap hadn't made it from the garage before she was greeted by Logan and propositioned for a mission. The electrokine didn't learn the nature of said mission until they reached a grubby-looking bar and encountered a small collection of disruptive Upir-infected mutants and Wolverine made their intentions known. The other patrons of the establishment didn't seem to mind the X-Men knocking down the vampires, and honestly, Zap hadn't minded the night out and the chance at some trouble. Plus, she had a pocketful of ones and fives swindled from swaggering drunks who were worshiping at the dartboards. After the shit hit the fan, Logan was the second man out the door, closely followed by the rest of his group. Zap hadn't brought her purse, so the only thing she eyed the semi-crowded dining room for were the keys to the damned Hummer. Ah, Sam had 'em. Hopefully he wasn't too drunk to drive - or at least keep up. Wolverine was a man on a mission...

"C'mon!" she pushed through the front door and took a lucky leap over a tavern-goer who'd stopped to take a rest on the stairs. The other three were just ahead of or behind her.

Once they were on the road again, Zalika knew it would be a miracle if they stayed with Logan and the Mustang he was chasing, but somehow they'd managed. Despite its normal outward appearance, the house had a creepy vibe that didn't sit well with Zap. Nothing otherworldly, just that something was amiss. Hell, it took a lot to scare her before - and now that she was infected with the Upir virus, it took a lot more. Still, she didn't like not knowing the nature or the mutations of these mutants...

For all intents and purposes, Sam was napping. Guthrie had not been doing much that night, so he decided to catch some much needed shut-eye. When he finally awoke, stumbling into the bathroom and grumbling like an old man, he had slipped on his earpiece once more. The earpiece had been quiet all night, but once Logan's voice erupted, he shot a quick and half-awake "On my way." into it and barreled into his closet. It was no surprise that Sam was itching to get out of the mansion for some action. His casual dress; consisting of a pair of worn-in jeans and a loose shirt with an almost-faded saying across the front of it. A pair of old boots finished it off. The mission credentials eluded his knowledge, but Sam knew one thing: anything with Logan was bound to be crazy.

Once they reached the bar and the powered-up (and subsequently infected) mutants, they went to work on them. Well, Sam didn't bother, Logan didn't require his specialized pyrotechnics as of yet. Sam was ordering a beer already and flirting with patrons of the female persuasion. The southerner downed a couple of beers while Logan made short work of two of them, the third scurrying off made Sam almost spill his current beer. Slamming it on the table and leaving a couple of bills (more than enough to pay), he ran out of the bar after Zap. With keys already in his hand and a swing of the door, Sam climbed into the driver's seat and turned the ignition, waiting to make sure the others were safely inside.

Sam was not drunk. He hadn't eaten anything, but he was not drunk. Guthrie could down alcohol with the best of them. It was more tipsy, then anything else. Concentrating on the road and following a speeding Logan, led to a quieter Cannonball, hence why he wasn't hollering out the window like usual. Once they reached the seemingly normal two-story house, Sam stifled a breath. Something was definitely wrong and Sam didn't like it at all.

"O...kay." Eddie mumbled when Logan popped into her office, barked an order and then left again. She ran up to her room to grab her coat and made her way down to the hangar to meet with the others who were going along. Sam and Zap. That was reassuring. When the reached the tavern, she took her place at a bar stool. She had chosen not to drink so she would be fully alert when the time came to kick ass (or watch the others). That time came rather quickly, it seemed. While Logan took out the two of the three vamps, Eddie fought to control the crowd so they wouldn't get too agitated. Her mutation didn't work as well on vampires, unfortunately. It was always fascinating to watch Logan fight even though it could be bloody a lot of the time. When the vampire and Logan ran out the door, she followed Sam and Zap to the Hummer. When they reached their location, Eddie, like the others, had a bad feeling as well. The mission had started out well enough, she only hoped it stayed that way.

At the rapid approach of the Hummer, Logan took his cue to advance; at least now there'd be back up if anything went wrong. He made quick work of the driveway and when he reached the front door of the suburban home, he heard commotion from inside. He reached for the knob and before his fingers grasped the handle, he was shot backward, an intense pressure beating against his chest with one blow. A hit was carried by a green light and Logan couldn't see much else until it dissipated and he landed on the hood of the Hummer. Pieces of the front door (which had been blown off its hinges) landed here and there around the vehicle. It felt like Cyke had hit him in the chest with a full blast. As the pain began to dull, so did the little chirping birds that circled his head (or in his case, chattering Jubilees). He slid down the hood and looked through the windshield at the others. "I guess they weren't decent. Stay sharp." The group with him weren't idiots, but they also didn't know what they were dealing with. Unbeknownst to Logan, they were dealing with a woman that shoots concussive, green blasts from her fingers, a male shapeshifter, the wiry man that showed them the way (superhuman strength) and a huge guy with intangibility. Those individual were making their way out onto the lawn, fangs drawn, as Logan's 'team' exited their SUV. Fangs drawn? Claws out.

The Hummer fishtailed to a stop behind Logan's bike and it wasn't long before their 'leader' was returned to them. Oh. Jesus. The green light faded just after Logan landed on the hood and Zap second-thought exiting the car. Meh, fuck it. She pulled the handle of the passenger side door and stepped out into the grass beside the ditch. Holy crap - they were coming out to greet them. She almost laughed at what Logan had said. Part of her wanted to reach across the distance between them and squeeze Eddie's hand, and part of her wanted to show her own fangs and tear into the huge bastard that was stepping out of the house last. The bigger they are...

Logan's claws were out and she knew her other fellows were probably ready to throw down as well, so she reaccessed the group they were facing and decided to stick with her gut and fight the big guy. She hoped to god he wasn't a Pete or Brian type. Her cellphone was in her pocket and had they more time or had she thought sooner, she would've called and figured out what the hell they were dealing with (mutation-wise). It didn't look like these guys allowed 'time outs'. Maybe she could text Mars? No, probably not. Either way, she wasn't too hep on revealing her own mutation prematurely, or that she was a vampire herself. Who knew what kind of radical, traitor-hating people these were. So she stayed calm and kept her eye on biggie.

He pulled the handle on the driver's side, letting go of the wheel and shifting his weight onto the leg headed towards the ground. Sam surveyed the group coming out of the building, his eyes darted over to each one, trying to figure out the one he would like to take on. They did not look as threatening as Cannonball first thought, but maybe that was the alcohol affecting his judgment. Finally setting his eyes on his target, the wiry man with superhuman strength, he walked by Logan's side. "Four against four, huh?" he said, speaking to no one in particular.

His blast field was already enveloping his body, Sam willed the thermochemical release of the energy, covering him in an soft orange glow. He would wait until Logan signaled or the opposing group made a move.

Levity let out a gasp and involuntarily leaned back when Logan went sailing through the air to land on the hood of the vehicle. Shit. She could feel four people inside the house (and then of course outside when they exited). All of them were extremely unpleasant (inside and out). Eddie glanced at Sam when he pointed out it was four against four. She'd been thinking the same thing. At least they were even numbered...not that that meant anything. She glanced around at her teammates. Zap had her eye on the huge guy and Sam on the lean man. After inspecting the remaining male for a few moments, Edana decided he was the one she'd go after (and thus manipulate). If only she knew the guy's mutation... not knowing made it harder to figure out exactly what feelings to emote to him. If she chose fear for instance, that might cause his mutation go haywire and end up hurting the her other teammates in the process, especially if his mutation was emotionally triggered. Well, she'd go with the technique she only used when necessary. Control. She couldn't control a person exactly the way a telepath could, but it wasn't too far off. With a glance at the other assailants, she attacked. Immediately, the man's eyes glazed over, and a split second later, he turned on his heel and ran himself straight into the wall head first. He wasn't down, but it was a start.
