Who: Phoenix, Beast, Wolverine, Britannic, Mars, Recon (and unconscious!Zap).
When: Wednesday, November 12th, 2008 (9:50 pm).
Where: Xavier's; sub-basement.
What: Mutant-on-mutant action.
Status: In progress.
Rating:  R  For Canadian violence, English-on-Irish hate crimes, language and some Starsky and Hutch-like antics.

For some reason or another, Brian didn't feel as particularly downtrodden about the whole 'Upir Virus' ordeal and the rush to find a cure. Perhaps it was because the whole of humanity wasn't in danger of extinction. Whatever the reason, he was thankful he wasn't the only doctor downstairs at the present. Something strange was in the air, and it wasn't just the eve of the full moon. There had been a tension throughout the place all day and it was making Brian feel antsy. Normally he and Joe might've been competing in a game of paperwad basketball, but tonight Brian was having a hard time concentrating on much of anything - let alone beating Recon at some easy shots. The two younger doctors were left in the Post-Operative De-Briefing room (which was now [and in the past ten months] find-a-cure-central), while the Phoenix was in the medical offices logging away the data they were taking down. Lord only knew where Hank was. He was rarely around during the night time hours. Hunting? The thought of it bothered Brian, but he hadn't mentioned it to his former mentor. He sighed a heavy sigh and looked over at Joe as he raised the lens of his microscope and rubbed at his tired eyes. "I have to stop watching movies with Jubilee while I should be sleeping." Yawn.

After Jean had spoken with Logan a couple weeks ago, she had made the sound decision to keep her mind a little more open to the goings-on at the mansion. As some might phrase it, 'the natives were getting restless.'

Those infected with the Upir Virus were starting to feel more and more like caged animals and some were even showing the tell-tale signs of 'jumping ship,' as it were. Granted, some were still coping better than others, but there were a few who seemed emotionally unstable. Mars was one person that Jean had been worrying about since day one. He had always had trouble controlling his anger and now that he had been infected with this illness, it was becoming even more apparent that he needed to be closely monitored. Last thing they needed now was someone to end up getting hurt, infected, or worse....

When Jean had settled down in her office chair that evening, she began typing in the data they (Brian, Joe, Hank, etc.) had collected that day. And since inputting data didn't require a higher-brain function, the redheaded telepath decided to let her mind wander. She let it reach out and scan over all those within the mansion and its grounds, and for a moment she couldn't sense anything out of the ordinary, or at least anything that demanded her immediate attention.

Then she felt it. A psychic spike, which indicated emotional turbulence. One that would surely lead to violence.

Down the hall from where she was, a heated argument had broken out. And it concerned Mars and Zap. Great, this was just what they needed now: a lover's quarrel. But this was no ordinary, run-of-the-mill spat between husband and wife. Mars was extremely upset and he was desperate - so desperate, in fact, that he was willing pass the curse that had been given to him to someone he loved dearly.

Shit.

Brian, Joe... you need to get to the workshop! Ronan's just attacked Zalika, Jean projected to her fellow doctors, while she rose from her seat (computer and data abandoned) and tore out of her office.

[ OOC: Okay, let's try this one more time. Lol. ]

If Joe knew in advance that Xavier’s would turn into the new Center for Disease Control, he would have taken extra virology courses. But his knowledge proved useful when combined with the others in an effort toward stopping continued pandemics, however, their progress was not fast enough. Mutants that had once cured others, were now victims themselves. It was a tragedy that Josiah sensed some time ago, but was never able to put the pieces together and form a undisputable precognition. It was danger, that’s all he knew. The only upside to the extended time in the lab was the further bonding of the doctors. Joe understood Jean’s complex personality a little more and Brian began sharing more of his personal life. Joe even found himself talking about Conlan.

Before Joe could ask Brian about Jubilee, a voice beamed in his head. He dropped a test tube, shattering it on the floor but only after he understood what Jean actually said. Zap. He jerked his head to look at Brian.

“Wait!” Joe shouted while grabbing a locked box from one of the shelves. He opened it and grabbed a prefilled syringe of an extremely powerful sedative. It was being used on the Darkseekers at one time, but it‘s effect on vampires was unknown. The strength had lethal potential, but lines were already being crossed. Zalika was hurt, who was next?

“Lets go!”

"Shit!" The test tube Joe dropped fell in sync with Brian's slide. Jean's projected thoughts instantly made him flinch. So - in case of emergencies, don't surprise doctors Braddock and Zoltin - they will spaz. Brian was at the door before Joe began for the syringe, but he paused long enough to realize what Recon was doing. Ahhhh. If Brian had any say, they wouldn't need to put Mars down with drugs. He took off toward the room down the hall and made short work of the jiggle-joggle doorways and corridors to get to the workshop. He knew Ronan would sense him coming, but it didn't matter. What was done was done. And Brian wasn't sure how much had been done. Was Mars hitting her? Or worse?

When the Brit flung open the door he flinched for a moment as the lights were snapping on and off again, and there was the smell of ozone in the room. Zap + danger = not good bedfellows. The lights finally went dark completely and it caused Brian's sick feeling to worsen. It meant she was unconscious (he hoped). When his eyes finally found his targets, Brian felt the air leave his lungs. Even still, he rushed forward and (force field up) slid his hand with precision between Mars' face and Zap's shoulder. He flung the other man back and moved his arm to catch Zalika before she fell. Oh fuck. She was covered in her own blood, and the wound in the hollow of her shoulder looked vicious. "Jesus," he turned quickly toward the door as Recon arrived. Anger was bubbling up in his middle. He scooped Zap's feet from the floor and held her, ready to pass her off to Joe and let Mars take his medicine. "Take her," his jaw hardly moved as he spoke, his blue eyes fighting to look from the Irishman back to his fellow doctor. He kept his force field up and extended in case Mars decided to argue the subject.

When Brian burst through the door, Mars knew there was no point in trying to stop the large man from disentangling himself from Zap. He wouldn't win against him right now without certain devices (none of which were on his person). It pissed him off to high hell that they were going to take her from him. The three non-infected doctors had been well informed of the process of becoming transformed. They knew they were going to prolong her suffering. Of course, how were those bastards supposed to know that he had no intention of killing his wife? Quite the contrary. He was making her life better. Britannic's force-fielded hand knocked Ronan backwards and across the room, where he knocked into a work station. He let out a snarl and glared while getting back on his feet at the two men when Brian handed Zap off to Joe, though he stayed where he was. Any confrontation now would most likely delay Zap's...monitoring? But oh did he want to blast someone's face off.

The site of Zap in Ronan’s arms was like a scene from a classic horror flick. Though the film stopped running when Brian tossed Mars to the side as if he was throwing decorative pillows off of his bed. Joe instinctively grabbed Zalika from Brian.

Spark!

Touching the electrokine caused multiple static shocks, something Brittanic wouldn’t have felt through his force field. Joe’s hair stood up, but the electric charge wasn’t the only thing the two now shared. As soon as their bodies came into contact the puncture wounds on her neck began to close. Blood loss was something the doctor could fix, but the real threat came from her impending transformation. It wasn’t clear how long she had been bitten, but he also has never had the opportunity of treating such a newly-infected patient. He was almost certain there was nothing he could do, but he didn‘t want to accept the inevitable. Either way, she belonged in the lab with the best minds at her side. Joe yelled for Beast and the Professor in his headset and before leaving the room, he looked to Brian.

“Be easy Brian.” Afterall, this wasn’t just some crazy blood-sucking lunatic, it was Conlan’s brother and Zap’s husband, two people Josiah cared a great deal about.

Zalika’s condition seemed to worsen while rushing down the hall way, adding only more stress to her erratic mutation. The lights flickered and one even blew up over their heads, raining sparks behind their trail. Once in the lab he laid her down on one of the cold steel exam tables. The electrical equipment in the room didn’t seem to be effected as much, just the occasional flickering monitor, but nothing distracted Joe from the problem at hand. He opened a small refrigerator removing bags of blood, his hands were shaking not from nervousness or panic, but from the abnormal amount of energy now in his body. He hurriedly pulled carts of supplies to her bedside, a few vials of experimental drugs fell to the ground. There had to be something he could do.

Just before the glass vials hit the ground, they began to hover inches off the floor for a moment. Then, ever so slowly, they lifted and were placed back into the cart with soft, clanking noise. Luckily Jean had been at the door, or they would've had another mess to tend to. One was most certainly enough to deal with for now.

The tall, redheaded stepped further into the room and moved to other side of the bed, so she could take a closer look at the unconscious Zap.

This was just awful. Jean knew the likelihood of an attack occurring on the school's ground was a very real possibility, but she had hoped she would've been wrong and that they would've gone without incident. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case and they were going to have to impose/enforce stronger preventative measures to keep it from happening again.

After a few moments, she looked over at Joe (who was standing on the opposite side of the examination table) to make sure he was holding up okay. He looked shaken up but not just by what happened to Zalika, but also by the amount of electricity coursing through his system. The lights overhead were still flickering from dim to bright, back to dim again. And the monitors were doing the same, but she knew they didn't need to worry about them turning off - or blowing up. Zap was getting weaker by the second, therefore her powers were beginning to wane.

"Should we try a blood transfusion?" Jean wondered aloud. She knew if they got more blood into her system, it would take longer for the Upir enzyme to replace it. But it also meant it would prolong Zalika's suffering. There was also a second option, but she really didn't know if it'd be a good idea or not.

"No," Hank said. He pushed his headset off his ear and it landed haphazardly on the metal counter as he passed it by. In quite a rush, he reached his colleagues and their patient, seemingly let down that Joe had healed the wound on the girl's lower neck. The blood that still clung to her skin and had saturated her sweater smelled incredible, however, and it took him a moment to gather his train of thought in order to explain things properly to Jean and Josiah. He shrugged off his lab coat and took her by the neck (gently), then used his free hand to open each of her eyes and spy into each one. The process was already beginning, of course. "This is a pain I'm sure you both remember that can't easily be alleviated by drugs or unconsciousness..." His blue brow was furrowed over conflicted blue eyes. They met Jean's browns, and he tried his best to convey he was of sound mind and not being pushed by bloodlust. While he still looked over the face of the redhead beside him, he pushed up his sleeves and took hold of Zap's arm. His eyes flicked once to Josiah, who was still a bit jittery and would more than likely be more prone to act rash in reaction to what he was about to do. "It needs to be finished." He raised her forearm to his mouth and without a second thought or another word he dipped his fangs under the soft skin of the underarm. He drank little, but injected as much as he could for such a situation. His eyes were closed. God, it tasted good. Far better than those freshly-cured humans Shaw kept at his disposal. And certainly better than his own synthetic concoction...

The Wolverine had been prowling, outside the school, but inside the barrier walls, keeping tabs on the vampire population the general security of the estate. When Joe's emergency call came through, his tone made a shiver run down his spine. The doctor sounded in near-panic, but was vague as to the cause. It didn't matter, Wolverine made tracks into the mansion and down to the lower levels. He busted into the infirmary as fast as the sliding door would allow. His sense of smell told him who was in the room before his eyes ever could. Jean, Joe, Zap, Hank, and a lot of fresh blood. Logan's temper peaked, the hair on the back of his neck stood stiff and he saw the three doctors surrounding Zap on the table. She was covered in what smelled like her own blood (tart battery acid), and Beast's fangs were sunk into her arm. In what could barely be called intelligible language, Wolverine screamed at the blue man. "Get the hell away from 'er!" Logan's claws erupted from the skin between his knuckles as he approached Beast at a brisk pace. He didn't want to hurt Zap anymore than it looked like she already had been, so he'd cut the damned ape's head off (if he had to) and Jean could remove it from the arm herself.

Brian barely heard Joe's plea words of warning. As the other doctor moved further away with Zap, the workshop grew dark again, and rather quiet. Dead quiet. The taller, blond man turned himself to face Mars fully, and he crossed his arms, force fields up but not extended. He knew Ronan wasn't dumb, but he wasn't either. He didn't suppose the other man needed medical attention... He wasn't favoring any limbs, and he knew they all healed more quickly than normal people would. So he didn't ask. He didn't really care.

"You're going to have to answer for this, you know." Joe had called Hank and the Professor. Brian had some idea of who was going to end up where. "I hope you had a good reason..." Cursing your beloved... hm. He doubted Ronan had something grand enough worked out to cover that charge of error. Out of sheer annoyance, Brian pushed out a field that knocked into Mars and sent him stumbling back a few feet. Yeah, that felt better.
