His mind was reeling with possibilities. There was to be a mission to the pentagon - himself included - to scout out any helpful information to the cure effort. How big was that? Huge. That's how big. Britannic had had quite enough of Westchester and white walls for the time being, so a ride in a cramped jet with a group of disgruntled peers was looking pretty exciting. The cure front was moving along, but personal emotions and space and other such fragile things that people held to were being trampled left and right. Wounded pride, mixed signals, grudges; dangerous feelings to be flying about in a school filled with such powerful beings. With the news of a mission in mind, and the necessity to see that Betsy wasn't falling victim to any of the inevitable negativity, Brian was headed for her door.

He had just finished his last round of tests on the newest batch of subjects from the woods outside the property. Dealing with angry, dirty disease-ridden critters always made him ready for a shower and a walk on the topside. Check and check. On his way to bed, he took the detour to his sister and the Brit knocked once before murmuring, "Bets?"

"I love you too," she replied, sighing a little, "so, so much."

Her own eyes had closed at some point after that was said. She wasn't sleeping, but merely resting her eyes.

Betsy would always love her brother. Always.

He was her ideal.

He was the man she compared all potential suitors to - which might've come off as a bit strange (or creepy) to some, but Betsy never thought of it that way. Really, why shouldn't she compare other men to him? He was strong, loyal, dependable, and he had a good sense of humor. He was also a gentleman - that was probably one of the most important qualities she looked for her.

"You're stuck with me, love."

Her hand went to rest upon his stomach for the moment, while she reopened her eyes and looked back up him. She smiled.

Brian followed the train of Betsy's mind and it led him to feel relieved at the mutual (though fairly obvious) feeling they shared. And, he felt extremely flattered, but it wasn't as though he hadn't guessed before. Other, older women he had found attractive were tall, beautiful and intelligent - very similar to Betsy. They held each other in high regard and he liked it that way.

"Wouldn't have it any other way."

When Betsy's eyes met his, he saw her smile in them as much as on her lips and he smiled fondly himself. His nose came down and touched to hers, and he gave her an Eskimo kiss. His arms moved then to envelope her and he pressed her to him, "I'm-" he cut himself off and decided to speak his feelings mentally; 'so lost when you're not near me.' With a gentle, easy strength, he pulled her up atop him so that he was holding her much like a teddy bear, but then eased his arms to relax so she could adjust - or poke him in the eye for treating her like a rag doll. He caught her blue gaze and stared for a moment before closing his own blue orbs with a nearly pained expression on his features. Sometimes it felt as though they were one person, and that was something way intense, even for Captain Britain.

Once she had been placed atop of her brother, her legs fell on either side of him while she used her hands to keep her balance by placing them upon his shoulders. After sharing an 'Eskimo kiss' with him, the smile on her face remained until he had closed his eyes in that pained expression; it faded somewhat.

She knew the intensity of their bond all too well, and sometimes it was even overwhelming for her to experience. There had been a time in her life (as well as his own) when they became truly separated from each other. Needless to say, Betsy was in no rush to relive that feeling again; it had her hurt more than she would ever care to say or admit, but it made her realize just how important her relationship with her brother meant to her.

'Absence made the heart grow fonder,' was an expression that seemed to fit. She had known she had made one of the biggest (if not the biggest) mistake of her life when she left the Institute... her brother. But, she was all too consumed in her own grief to be able to realize it at the time.

She had been given a second chance, and she'd be damned if she was going to screw it up again.

You have no idea how lost I was without you, she projected to him psychically, her eyes closed for the moment.

One hand had drifted upward and it came to rest on the side of Brian's handsome jaw and she gently caressed it with her thumb.

Brian did have an idea - or at least he thought he did. He'd gone through the same heartache of being apart from his only family as Betsy did - but he had thought she was dead and gone. It wasn't easy. He hadn't been sure if she would ever be whole again. But before him now wasn't a broken girl; she was the woman who had the tenacity to endure, a strength that mirrored his own.

His arms drew up from the bedspread, finally, and one rested against the small of her back while the other mirrored the action of Betsy's hand on his face. He closed his eyes to the touch of her hand on his jaw, and moved his hand from cupping her chin, up the side of her outstanding cheek and finally laid to rest with his fingers fondling her ear and intertwining with her blond tresses. His eyes opened again and they sparkled, reflecting the contentment he felt in both body and spirit. I'm going to keep you safe, dear one.

The Brit's right arm shifted upwards, pulling Betsy closer to his face, and when she arrived, he touched his nose to hers once more and watched her until he forced himself to blink. His eyelids fell heavily, and he took his time to reopen them, giving a silent thanks that Betsy had been pulled closer to his face and further from his hips. There might have been some issues, otherwise. Or at least a hearty laugh in his face were she to discover his situation. He smirked very lightly to himself as he imagined her mockery, that laugh that said 'Brian, you're such a lunatic, but I love you no matter'. There was a third possible reaction, of course; mutuality. Where he lay with his eyes closed, Brian realized he might as well have announced his worries on broadcast radio, being nose to nose with the only listener.

Could be the other way around, you know.

Another sigh escaped her as Brian tangled his fingers into her hair. It felt so nice to be touched that way again. Betsy actually couldn't recall the last time someone had been so intimate (and yet so sweet) with her. But, it wasn't like she had much time for the touchy-feely stuff before she found her way back to the Institute and back to her twin brother.

Betsy felt a subtle shift in his thought pattern just then. Arousal wasn't just physical, it was a state of mind. She could feel it in her head... as well as her own body. She propped herself up into a sitting position again, but her hands remained upon his shoulders. She wasn't going to move, not unless he wanted her to.

She hoped he didn't.

This might've been considered a highly awkward situation, even under the most normal of circumstances. But, it was doubly so because the two were related. Brother and sister. It probably should've put her off, but oddly enough, it didn't; in fact, Betsy felt rather flattered.

"Hey..." her voice was soft, hardly more than a whisper. Betsy placed her hand upon the side of his face again, keeping her own gaze steady with his.

Brian had felt his heart skip a beat when Betsy nearly cooed at the feel of his hand against her, and he felt as though she was pulling it out of his chest when she moved away from him. He knew instantly that she knew what he'd thought. Then she stayed... she had only propped herself up, and he breathed out finally, and opened his eyes. He'd been holding his breath all the while. Well then save me.

"Bets," he wanted to say 'I'm sorry' and he thought about even projecting it mentally so he could feel better about what he was feeling, but he couldn't muster an apology. And she didn't seem to want to be parted from him. He felt the same. She spoke then, softly, and with a kind, gentle grace that put his heart and mind back at ease. His stomach was doing flip-flops. This wasn't exactly something he had imagined happening - ever. These weren't feelings he thought he would experience. Not in a million years. Here they were, at a standstill, their feelings laid out for the other to read.

His hands found her again, this time resting on her sides, featherlight. He pushed his fingers up toward her under arms, then shifted around to tickle them along her back and down again before coming to rest where her legs bent out from her hips. The excitement he felt was a horrible mixture of deep-rooted emotional bonds and an intense fear of rejection and shame; both feeding into his insane arousal. "Bets?" his right hand moved to grasp around her own where it lay on his face and he held it there, turning his head briefly to kiss the palm of her hand. Brian moved his left one free of her hip and raised it to touch lightly along her soft, lower lip. It felt electric.

Elisabeth wouldn't have wanted an apology. Brian hadn't done anything wrong. At least, in her mind's eye, he hadn't.

Maybe it was their link, their bond. Maybe it was because she understood him more than anyone else could that she was so open to what was stirring within both of them. She knew though, that if this continued, they wouldn't be able to take it back. They'd embarking into uncharted, taboo territory. They would be tempting fate but, for the moment, Betsy wasn't overly concern with the repercussions.

Whatever would be, would be.

Featherlight fingertips made Betsy's body feeling incredibly tingly all over; it felt nothing short of amazing. Her blue eyes slid closed again, savoring the sensation of his touch.

She would have never believed this sort of thing could've happened between herself and her Bri-Bri. Never. But, in a way, it made sense that he could make her feel this way... Make her feel that she was truly alive, safe, and loved.

Again, Betsy looked upon his face, nothing but love and admiration reflecting in her eyes. Her lips pursed, kissing the tips of his fingers softly.

"Yes, love?"
