Friday -- what to do? [Nov. 27th, 2009|10:23 am]

haruka
At least I'm not working! XD I'm sure my co-workers are going crazy about now; I'll have to log on later and check out the chaos from the safety of my vacation.

Unlike the rest of our week, we don't have any specific plans for the day. We'll probably watch more Scrap Teacher or maybe something different like Oreten or Chinese Prince of Tennis. Hell, we still have the second Tinkerbell movie we haven't watched yet. We need another vacation or two to finish off more of our backlog (auugh, and I just added the subbed version of Yuuta's Kizumono movie yesterday, too ....)

This DC/Marvel fanart is great (the second one made me laugh.)

Still too much rain expected today, but I'm going to TRY and stop worrying about it unless it actually starts coming in the house (even if I still don't like that pool of water near the house. I need a second tarp.)

I dreamed about the Chipmunk movie last night, of all things. We saw it in the theatre when it came out, but I never got a copy of it. Will rectify that.

Think I'll go put up some more fics on AO3.

Watching stuff [Nov. 26th, 2009|10:23 pm]

haruka
[Current Mood | worried]

Today we went to see New Moon with our friend Christina (she's a huge fan of the books.) We enjoyed it, but still couldn't resist poking fun at the stars, Mr. Ugly and Ms. Twitchy. Jake was much more worth watching.

We came back to our place and watched some Battery, assorted AAA videos and Johnny's Boys clips, and the Hidarime Tantei EYE pilot. :D

Unfortunately, we've got another 24 hours of rain just starting. I cannot describe how utterly sick I am of worrying about rain and yet I can't help myself. It'll keep on until we've found some way to stop all the problems we're still having on the back wall of the house. *sigh*

It's funny how vacation is more than half over and I still haven't written a word of fic.

Heavy rain warning [Nov. 23rd, 2009|05:59 pm]

[Current Mood | scared]

I fucking hate rain. Tomorrow we've got a heavy rain warning on that could bring 50-70 mm -- easily the worst rain we've had since I got the outer wall supposedly fixed and the new deck put up. I already know I still have a leak, probably from the floor instead of the wall, and that the new deck fails miserably at keeping rain from falling in or around the stairwell. In fact, it's made it worse by channeling it into one area that could become a sinkhole up against the house. My little flimsy tarp held down by rocks on top of the deck isn't much protection.

My only hope is that all the holes they drilled in the stairwell will mean that it won't fill up like it did last time. And that the cracks they fixed in the wall are really fixed. The floor, however, is still a mystery that we're hoping to solve tomorrow now that we've pulled out a little more wainscotting around the problem area. I just hope it doesn't get any worse before we can fix it.

Tomorrow's going to be a long, long day.

So I am using this one because it is fun. :3 :3 ;3

Dear Muses,

Now that I'm starting on the Zero Princess Saga/Void Space Saga/Whatever the hell you want to call this series, Do not, I repeat, DO NOT, turn this into Viceroyverse done Kairi/Rinoa Style.

Please. I don't care how well it works, I don't care that it works on a multitude of levels. I don't care if it'd be cute (and about a quarter as creepy as Quistis/Kairi is!). I don't care if it makes a lot more sense than any other Kairi pairing in existence, Sora/Kairi included. But the Nonsense of Sora/Kairi is another show rant. Aaaanyway, no one would read it.

Even if it is a really good idea--

No. No. If you try and steer it in that direction, and we know that the one-sided Rinoa/Kairi in Braceletverse is enough, I will turn this brain around and write...umm...

I WILL MAKE US WRITE MPREG. SORA/KAIRI MPREG. HOW DO YOU LIKE THEM APPLES!?

No love,
Jordi.

It's been over two weeks now since our new deck was put in. Too bad we still have the OLD deck sitting in the middle of our yard:

Vacation! [Nov. 21st, 2009|12:48 pm]

[Current Mood | ditzy]

It's finally vacation and now that I've already started a list of things I need to do, I'm not even sure there'll be enough time in a week to do them all. *weak laugh* I'll do my best, though!

Our new fridge arrived yesterday while I was working (I was impressed by how quietly they managed to take out the old one and deliver the new one so that it didn't disturb my calls.) It's HUGE compared to our old one, which is funny, because when we saw it in the showroom we could have sworn it was smaller. But when we put all our food into it (which used to be stuffed to the gills) there's now plenty of leftover room. @_@

Michiru surprised me by buying me fleece sheets, and they're pink! :D Hers are light blue, to match her room. They're so soft and warm and snuggly. ^_^

Our new healthier way of eating has really made a difference with that pesky menopause-inspired weight gain that sprang upon me suddenly. I've managed to get it back down to 115 lbs and it seems fairly steady right now, yay!

While looking around websites at work yesterday I came across this story -- if you've ever been in a position where you worked customer service and didn't want to just smile and take it from nasty customers, this is a great tale. It's a few pages long, but a satisfying read.

Still uploading over at my AO3. I'm filling up the Prince of Tennis and Fruits Basket categories rapidly. XD

This week we're hoping to get to see '2012' and 'New Moon' (I hate the two Twilight stars, but there are werewolves and vampires, so ... yeah.)

Guess what surprised me in the middle of the night?

This explains why the sinus headache was so damnable (it's gone now, Thank Gods...I don't want to throw up anymore). Maybe the Dragon will behave until I get home from work.

For only getting 4 hours of sleep, I'm oddly awake.

It's creepy foggy out. 0__0

Approaching burn out [Nov. 20th, 2009|08:07 pm]

[Current Mood | crappy ]

...I hate the shifting weather. My sinuses are not happy and I'm feeling nauseous. I thought maybe I could combat it with tea, but my grandparents have nasty tea and I nearly threw it up after a sip.

I'm exhausted. Today at work I was doing 'roaming reference' meaning I was walking everywhere, including up and down stairs. *falls over*

Also, my throat is really dry and I'm really hoping I'm not catching my boss' 'sick' or that I didn't catch something from the patrons. Considering I'm now in contact with hundreds, if not thousands of people on a daily basis it seems that all the hand sanitizer I use is a futile effort at best.

Ugh...I have to work at 8am on Saturday. Here's to hoping I don't feel like death.

Passing ENDA - Call your reps! National Call-In Day for Equality [Nov. 17th, 2009|02:48 pm]

kuchehexe
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=180630476026&ref=nf

As we move closer to a House vote on the Employment Non-Discrimination, we need to burn up the phone lines to Congress, and let them know that ENDA is next, ENDA is NOW! We must let Congress know how important ENDA is to LGBT people and all those who care about equality. With your help we can end job discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

Tomorrow is the National Call-In Day for Equality. It’s the day when we flood Congress with our calls demanding equality in the workplace. Tomorrow, talk to Congress. Call them at (202) 224-3121. Give your zip code and ask to be connected to your Senators, and then your Representative. If you haven’t contacted your elected officials, NOW IS THE TIME. Let them know that you support ENDA and you want them to support it, too. If you already have, please do it again.

Prefer to email your representative and senators? Click here and urge them to pass ENDA.

Talk to your friends, family and neighbors and let them know. Start with the simple opening: "Did you know that Congress is considering workplace legislation? Did you know that only 40% of the country is covered are clear laws protecting LGBT people from discrimination?" Ask the people in your life how they feel about that. Then tell them they can help protect people from discrimination based on who they are--ask them to take action.

Share this event with your friends and family and ask them to join this event and pledge an email or phone call to Congress.

It just takes a minute to do your part to end discrimination in the work place.

Gotten from [info]jlsigman:

Instructions:

Leave me a comment saying "Resistance is Futile."

• I'll respond by asking you five questions so I can satisfy my curiosity

• Update your journal with the answers to the questions

• Include this explanation in the post and offer to ask other people questions

1) What led you to the life of a ninja librarian?

For my undergrad years, I worked at a library as a page, shelving books. It was there where I learned my ninja-like skills of not being seen and hearing all. From there I worked my way up to the desk, even doing programs. Once I graduated with my English degree, I continued working to save up money for grad school. I paid off my undergraduate loan and took some time off to consider my options. At one point I did consider librarian, but some severe budget cuts in the county, where several libraries closed utterly broke my heart and I had to get rid of the migraines I had (thank you Reiki). I don’t want to say grad school was a whim, but I was sitting down assessing my options when I got the ‘nudge’ to apply. I had reached a point where I forced myself to stop worrying how much it would cost (I hate hate HATE owing money) and just do it. I realized that I loved working in libraries and that if I truly wanted to make a difference, I would have to get into a position of power and that avenue required a Masters degree.

2) What's your favorite season, and why?

It’s between spring and autumn. I love taking photos of all the flowers in spring, but being in Buffalo it’s often marred by snow. So I would have to say late spring because that’s when lilacs bloom and mid-autumn because that’s when the leaves are at the peak of their change and the temperature is crisp and not too cold.

3) Who is your favorite angel?

My guardian, Mycius. For Archangel it would have to be Raphael and Michael.

4) If you won the lottery, which author would you stock up on?

I would probably stock up on manga, LOL! For an author, no idea. I’ve pretty much stocked up on my usuals and the books I don’t have I’ve gotten from the library. I might pick some fantasy author that has a lot of books (maybe Neil Gaiman, Elaine Cunningham, Ed Greenwood, Terry Pratchett) or Richard Bach or maybe Doreen Virtue (because she has all those oracle cards). :)

5) What do you consider the greatest ongoing challenge in your life?

Balance in all things – finances, work, social life, sanity, etc.

I Loathe November [Nov. 17th, 2009|06:18 am]

[Current Mood | depressed]

For me it's the month of death. I've lost so many animals, friends and relatives during November, more than any other month.

Now it looks like it's my 18-year-old cat Rodeo Princess's turn. She's been in declining health for a while now, but she has begun refusing food, has lost a lot of weight, and now has this blank stare animals usually get near the end.

Ive tried everything I could think of to get her to eat. I've offered her ensure (she wouldn't touch it), baby food (she ate a tiny bit), canned cat foot mixed with warm water to make it easier to eat, even plain yogurt which she usually loves. Nothing got her to eat more than a little bit, and that was usually from me holding the bowl under her nose, or dabbing some of the food on her mouth so she'd eat.

Looks like some time this week we are going to have to make the decision to let her go. Hardest thing in the world.

I know 18 is a long life, but the selfish part of me would love to have her with me for many more years. I love all my animals, but this cat, out of all of them has owned the biggest piece of my heart.

She came into my life at my lowest point, I was so sick, in pain all the time, and the doctors hadn't a clue what was wrong. It got to the point where even my family didn't believe I was really sick (turned out to be a combination of things including severe gall stones and anemia). I'll be honest, it had gotten so bad that I had contemplated just ending it all to get away from the pain.

Then Rodeo (who had belonged to my abusive neighbors) came into my life. Gave me something to care about other than myself, a reason to get up and go outside each day if only long enough to feed and pet her.

After she recovered from being hit by a car she started rescuing other injured cats and bringing them to me. Because of her I ended up with Codger , Motley, Clarence, Tiffany, Spot, and Salena.

We've been friends for nearly half my life, and when she goes, I just don't know what I'll do. Sure I still have the others (including new kitten Panda), but no one is a substitute or replacement for someone else

[Current Music |Christmas Music, of course!]

I'm in good spirits.

I don't clain a religion, but I love Christmas and everything about it. Especially the music. In fact, I like the holiday so much that I can't imagine not celebrating it. I don't claim a religious affiliation, but Christmas is fun.

Which is why I understand, but won't agree at all, with those Atheists who insist that Real Atheists don't celebrate Christmas.

First and foremost, "Real" Atheists don't believe in any deities or supernatural things (though I know of some that believe in the possibility of, oh, aliens and parallel universes), that's it. Second, the holiday itself has become more secular than sacred, so I'm sure that celebrating Christmas is perfectly safe for even the strongest of Atheists.
