cat_mcdougall asked:
I didn't see anyway to contact you outside of the group, but wanted to ask you:

Would it be possible to promote my e-published writing here? Or would you rather I didn't? I didn't want to do it and have the mod mad at me. XD

Answer:
Hmmm...That's a good question.
Let me establish some guidelines on promoting published works.

1. No self published work (ie Publish America and the like).
2. No whacking great images. Keep it to text and maybe a postage stamp sized thumbnail image of the cover (if applicable).
3. Put it behind a cut.

Congratulations on getting published!

I've just set up an asylum called [info]fiction_queries where writers of all kinds of fiction can ask for help in their research - eg what does it feel like to get shot? Does anyone know a good restaurant in Seattle my characters can have dinner at? What would an ancient Greek woman wear under her tunic?

I don't promise we can answer everything but the more people who join the better chance we have.

Can I promote the asylum here please?

There's a contest going on at the Online Writing Workshop for Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror, for the month of February. I'm not running the contest, but I am participating, and I was wondering if I could pimp the contest in the community.

The text I would post would be as follows:

If you've ever written a fantasy, science fiction, or horror short story or started a novel, then you may want to know that there's a contest being run at the Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Online Writing Workshop starting on February 1st and running through the end of the month. If you aren't already a member of the workshop, then the contest is FREE! All you have to do is post some of your writing to the workshop. Then other writers (both just starting out and some already published) will read and critique your work. You read and critique other contestant's stories in return. The contest will be based on how good the feedback is that you get and receive. In the end though, everyone is a winner because you get to see what other people think of your work, and you get to help other people improve their own work.

And if after the free month you don't feel as if you've gotten anything constructive out of the workshop, you don't have to join. I think it would be helpful; although I realize that it might not be for everyone.

So check it out, try it out, and perhaps you'll win a free membership in the workshop, along with a few books. You'll at least get to see what others think of what you've written. Remember, it starts today!

Go to this LJ post or over here, to author Joshua Palmatier's website to get all the details.

I'm participating, so I thought I'd pimp it out. The more people we have participating, the more feedback you'll get on your entry ^_^
