Who: Lily and Severus
What: A romantic evening at the lake
When: Wednesday evening
Where: The Hogwarts lake
Rating: TBD
Status: Incomplete

Lily, normally a bookworm at heart, felt like her classes and homework dragged throughout the day. She had been embarrassed a few times when a professor had called on her just as she was zoning out and she hadn't known an answer. Some of her Gryffindor friends had given her strange looks, and those who were more in the know wrote her off as crazy. Any girl who could love Severus Snape had to be either insane or brainwashed, or at least that was how most of the people Lily knew saw it. But that only proved to her further that they didn't deserve her friendship, and she was in the process of dissociating with them.

The days always went by much too slowly whenever Lily had an upcoming date with Severus. But now it was all over, and it was fast approaching 6:30, the meeting time they had agreed upon. Lily had painstakingly curled her hair and applied her makeup, dressed, and headed outside to wait for him. She was early this time. Pleased with herself, she sat on some dry ground and watched other students who were hanging around. Some were doing homework, some were chatting, and some just stared off into space.

Lily hoped they would go inside and eat dinner soon, because she really wanted another kiss from Severus.

Severus was not prone to daydreaming or at least he didn't used to be prone to daydreaming. Everything had changed when he and Lily had started talking again. He still felt bad that he had called her a mudblood, peer-pressure was a strong thing. Lily was perfect!

He glared at everyone he met on the way outside to meet Lily. He didn't feel like talking to anyone, he wanted to be in time and not let his girlfriend wait. Merlin, he still could not believe how good the world girlfriend sounded when it meant Lily. Lily was Severus Snape's girlfriend! Improbable but true.

As he walked outside he noticed that there were still a lot of students around, he had hoped for a little more privacy but if Lily didn't mind he definitely didn't. He was used to being mocked. He spotted the redhead and moved toward her.

"Lily..." He said as he was close enough for her to hear him.

Lily looked up at him at the sound of his voice, a large smile plastered on her face all of a sudden. "Severus!" she said, practically jumping up and dancing over to him. Momentarily forgetting about the other students who were around, she pulled him into a hug. "I'm so happy to see you," she told him unnecessarily. Of course she was happy to see him, and that was always evident in her actions. But it felt good to tell him, too.

Severus blushed because of the hug but also the enthusiasm Lily showed at seeing him. He still had the odd feeling he was dreaming, a perfectly perfect dream. Lily was the kind of girl that should not be excited to see a boy like Severus but she did and it made him feel all happy, it made him want to smile. He smiled a few times in the Slytherin common room and it had scared (and probably scarred for life) a few first years.

"I am very happy to see you too." He gave her a small warm smile. "Want to go for a walk around the lake?" He knew the other students would be be talking but he preferred not to have to see them stare at them.

"Sounds lovely to me," she agreed. Lily had gotten somewhat used to the stares. She was careful to maintain propriety in public, not going too far in showing affection for Severus. But she hated feeling restricted in that way. Still, holding his hand was acceptable. She laced her fingers in his as they walked, the huge smile not disappearing from her face one bit.

It felt good to walk hand in hand, lead Lily away from the castle and all those nosy people. It was a nice night, a great evening to walk around the lake, spent time with the girl he was in love with. Sometimes he wondered if deep inside he wasn't a silly romantic fool after all. On a night like tonight Severus Snape did not care that he was a romantic fool.

"Did you have a nice day?" He asked squeezing Lily's hand warmly as he smiled, maybe not as huge as her but definitely a real smile.

"It was just okay," she told him honestly. "Classes were sort of boring. I zoned out a few times." She hoped he hadn't caught the few times that she had been embarrassed and not known an answer, but it was Severus. He never missed anything. Her cheeks colored a little at the thought, but she did not truly feel that ashamed. If it indicated to him how much she was falling for him, then maybe that was a good thing. Severus needed to have more confidence in himself.

"How was yours?" she asked, thinking it was nice to have someone to talk to about the little things. Someone who cared and would actually listen.

Severus had noticed that classes seemed less interesting then they had before. His mind had been wandering a lot lately and keeping his mind focussed on the classes had not been easy. Of course Lily had been the one his mind had wandered too in those times. It was hard to believe that he was not the only one with that problem. It all seemed still so unreal, so much like a dream that Lily wanted to be with him, spend time and talk with him.

"Potions was interesting..." He trailed off, he didn't want to say that Slughorn was a bad Potions Master but sometimes he wished that the lessons would go farther then what was in the text book. There were so many things that could be changed for the better in that book. "But you are right, classes tend to be boring lately." He blushed softly as he squeezed Lily's hand.

Lily nodded. She liked Potions too, and she knew that was Severus's favorite. She shared his same feeling, though. "I know. I wish Professor Slughorn would go beyond what's in the textbook. I mean, the book is good, but it's still just a book. I bet he knows a lot more and has real life experience to back it up. He could probably teach us more interesting stuff," she replied.

Severus turned his head, looking at Lily with a warm smile on his face. It was almost like she read his mind. "You are right, someone like Professor Slughorn, with so many years experience should be able to teach us so much more." He was sure that the professor had noticed too that not everything in the textbook was as potent and productive as it could have been.

He walked on, holding on to Lily's hand, for a while longer feeling lucky. "Can you teach me more dances?" He asked without even thinking about it. Severus had enjoyed dancing with Lily so much that he hoped they could do it more often.

She returned his smile, blushing a little when he looked over at her like that. He seemed to appreciate her remark about Professor Slughorn. They were of the same opinion about a lot of things; it was lovely. Disagreements were a part of life, so they were bound to disagree about something eventually, but so far things had been just peachy. Lily was happier with Severus than she had ever been.

She was thrilled when he asked her about the dances and didn't hesitate to reply, "Of course!" Lily had a big grin on her face now. "What types would you like to learn? Anything in mind?"

There were types of dancing? Severus had not known that, he had really not thought about dancing except for the part that he liked dancing with Lily.

"Not really." He blushed a little and hoped she would not realize that he was absolutely clueless about dancing and that all he knew was what Lily taught him. "Do you have a suggestion?"

"Well, there are a lot of different types of ballroom dances," she told him gently, realizing he was very new to this and not wanting to make him feel stupid. She was very happy that he took an interest in dancing. "I could always teach you how to tango. That's one of the most common dances," she offered. "At home, I see people doing it on telev-... I mean, I see a lot of my parents' friends doing it," Lily amended quickly. She still shied away from talking about Muggle devices with him.

Severus was familiar with most Muggle devices but being a Slytherin it was not a good thing to be open about that knowledge. His very strickt father was Muggle, he really didn't like his father and anything he stood for very much. He would happily follow his fellow Slytherins' ideas about Muggles being inferior if it had not been for Lily. Muggles could not be completely bad because Lily was muggleborn and she was the greatest person he had ever met, she made him believe not all Muggles were like his father.

"I would love to learn the tango." He would do anything for Lily and if she suggested the tango then the tango it would be.

"All right," she said agreeably. "We'll need some music for that. And a good place to practice. Do you know of any? I suppose if all else fails, we could just borrow an empty classroom." She wished that she and Severus were in the same House - then their meeting place would have been simple: the common room. Lily wondered what the Slytherin Common Room was like, but decided it was none of her business.

It was hard to find a good quiet place at Hogwarts, there was always someone around. He loved Hogwarts, he loved to learn but he hated the lack of privacy. Sometimes he wished that that mysterious room that appeared when someone needed it was real.

"Did you ever hear about a room that appears when you need it, that has exactly what you need in it when it appears?" He knew it sounded odd but in a place like Hogwarts a room like that could be more then just a story, it could be real.

"The Room of Requirement," Lily whispered, her eyes widening a little at the thought of it. She had no idea where it was, but she wondered if Severus did. "Do you know anything about it?" she asked hopefully. Oh, that would be perfect. A place for her and Severus to get away with each other, whenever they needed to. And they could be alone. She blushed again, glad that Severus could not read her mind.

"Only stories." Severus wondered if they could find out more about the Room of Requirement in the library. "I wasn't even sure if it was real, it sounded too good to be true." A room like that would be perfect, a place to get away from the teasing, the looks. A place to spend time alone with Lily, that thought made him blush.

"If you want we can try to find it." Severus was not really adventurous but he was nosy and he was good at finding out things, if it was in a book he would find it.

Lily nodded. She had thought the same things. But if there was so much talk about it, there had to be some truth to it, right?

"Do you want to go to the library now?" Lily was fine with taking this date on over to be among the books. Being a bookworm, the library was already sort of romantic to her anyway.

Going to the library might, for most, not sound much like a romantic date but it did to Severus. It was actually one of the only places in the castle that you could find a quiet corner where nobody was constantly looking at you. Also bullying was almost impossible there, the librarian saw everything and put a stop to it right away.

"That is good idea, the Room of Requirement sounds like a very..." He paused for a moment, he was not sure what to say to not make it seem that he just wanted to get Lily alone in a room nobody knew about. He was not that kind of a boy. "Useful." He decided on with a blush, knowing it was a horrible description.

Lily looked at him expectantly when he paused and wondered what he had been about to say. It seemed he had amended his statement silently. Lily smiled at him again and turned to lead them in the direction of the library. "It does sound like it would be useful," she replied. "I wonder if it can really turn into anything you want it to. If it even exists." Lily ran a hand through her long red hair, thinking. "But if there are so many stories about it, there has to be some truth to them..."

"There are a lot of stories about it." Severus had always preferred his own judgment and/or proof but he had to agree that if there were so many stories about something at least partly it had to be true. "And Hogwarts is a magical place, sometimes it seems alive." If a place could change it's staircases then hiding a room would not be so odd.

He looked back toward the Castle, "Lets see if we can find this room." He smiled at Lily, he was sure if they put their minds to it they would easily be able to find it.

Stories. There had to be stories about it in print too. "Hold on a minute," Lily said, pausing in her tracks. "I think I remember... there was something about it in one of the books I have." Lily wracked her brain for a few minutes, pacing back and forth as she did. Walking a little helped her brain to process better. "Oh!" She had reached into her memory and pulled out that paragraph she remembered reading. The header of it was "Those In Need..." Yes, it was definitely in Hogwarts: A History. She remembered clearly now.

"There's a small paragraph about it in Hogwarts: A History. Maybe we don't need to go to the library after all." Lily beamed at him. "Come with me. The book is in my trunk in the dormitory."

Hogwarts: A History? Severus could not believe he had not thought about that himself. He was not sure if it would be enough but it would be a great beginning. Their combined brainpower would help them find the Room, a place without nosy people.

"Good idea!" Severus smiled at Lily, he wasn't sure if he would be able to follow her into the Gryffindor tower but it would be interesting to try.

Lily smiled back, delighted that he liked her idea. She kept her fingers laced in his as she led the way back toward the castle, Gryffindor tower being their destination. She was happy at the thought of this room. It'd be great to have a place to get away, away from the sneers of James and his cronies. She had gotten quite sick of them all.

Severus let Lily lead him toward the castle. The closer he got to it he did get a little nervous though. He knew that he would not be welcome in the Gryffindor tower, it might be interesting to see what would happen but he did not want to get Lily into trouble.

He squeezed her hand and he smiled warmly at her. "We will find this room!" He was really sure they would.

She found his happy determination very endearing. "I hope you're right. I think it could be great for us," she replied. Not just for dancing, but any of their future dates. It would be almost like having their own place. They walked into the main doors of the castle, the smile never leaving her lips.

Severus could think of a lot of things they could use a room as private as the Room of Requirement for, some things made him blush. He mentally scolded himself for having less then proper thoughts. He was raised to be a perfect gentleman and some of the things he that came to mind were not the way a gentleman would act.

As he followed Lily into the castle, still holding hands, he could almost feel the stares and even glares of the students around them. He tried to ignore them, he was trying hard to keep his temper in check for Lily.

He took a deep steadying breath, "Together we can do anything." He said before he could stop himself, he blushed; Merlin, did he sound like a silly lovestruck puppy.

Lily found the stares annoying. Why was it that she couldn't enjoy his company without being looked at like she was mad? Gryffindor or not, she was going to love who she wanted. Lily began to have worries that James and his friends might be in the common room when she got there.

Severus's optimistic remark cheered her again, and her lips gave in to the happy smile that formed on them. "Yes, we can," she agreed, running her thumb gently over the skin on Severus's hand. His hands were so soft, warm, and comforting. Lily wanted them on her body. She blushed at the thought.

She paused before the Fat Lady's portrait, still worried that James might be inside just waiting to taunt them. Chalk it up to being paranoid, but Lily couldn't allow that to happen. She sighed quietly and walked over to the corner of the corridor with him. "Hey, do you mind waiting? I'll only be a second. You know, the idiots might be out," she explained, an apologetic look on her face.

"I don't mind." Severus really didn't mind, he was feeling uncharacteristically optimistic and happy and he really did not feel like having his good mood and the nice time he was having with Lily being interrupted by the annoying Potter and infuriating Black.

He gave Lily one of his rare smiles and let go of her hand, "I'll wait here for you and then we can try to find the Room..." He paused and looked around for a moment worried that people might be listening in. He decided not to finish the name of the Room of Requirement, knowing real well Lily knew exactly what he was talking about.

Lily returned his smile and pressed a brief kiss to his cheek. "I'll be right back," she promised.

Lily walked back to the portrait and uttered the password, then went to her dormitory to retrieve her book from the trunk. She passed by the common room as quickly and silently as possible and returned to Severus's side in less than a minute.

"Got it!" she said cheerily. Taking him by the hand, she led him a safe distance away from the Gryffindor area and leaned against the wall to flip through the textbook. It was a bit dim in the hallway. Lily took out her wand and muttered, "Lumos," then pointed it at the page. It took her some time to find the paragraph, as it was very small and hidden deep within the book, almost as if the writer did not want many people to be able to read about it.

"Look here, it says that it's located behind the portrait of, er... Barnabas the Barmy," she pointed out the paragraph. "Any idea where that is?" Lily looked up at Severus helplessly. It was difficult to remember where exactly all the portraits were in this huge castle.

Severus knew they had been lucky that they got in and out of the Gryffindor tower so quickly and without bumping into anybody horrible.

"Barnabas the Barmy?" He worried his bottom lip thoughtfully. "That name does sound familiar." Severus had roamed the castle a lot just to find a nice quiet place to read, study and get away from idiots.

"Oh..." He remembered seeing the strangest painting of a wizard teaching trolls how to dance, if he remembered correctly that was Barnabas. "I think it is on the seventh floor."

Her helpless look turned into one of happiness. Of course, she could count on Severus to know all the things she did not. That was why they went so well together. Lily smiled up at him. "Severus, you're brilliant!" she told him sincerely. Lily muttered nox and put her wand away, then took Severus's hand once more to lead him for the stairs. Finally, somewhere they could be alone, away from James Potter's jeers and his stupid friends. Lily couldn't have been any more thrilled. Of course, part of that delight came from something else entirely - a desire other than to be away from the rest of Hogwarts. It scared Lily a bit and made her blush at the same time.

Severus was glad that there wasn't much light anymore because he was blushing like a fool. Lily had called him brilliant, he knew he was not stupid but being called brilliant by Lily was worth more then any top grade any professor could give him.

He let her lead him to the seventh floor, he was almost floating on air hearing Lily's complement over and over in his head. "I am not really that brilliant, we solved this together and when we find this place it will be because we work together so very well."
