Magical Mystery Invitation Across the Fandoms
Released to the wilds of the vast universes throughout time and dimensions, the invitations to the party are part Time Lord psychic paper tech and part good old magic. They don't have to appear in traditional guise, though they might be a colourful card or banner, a flying paper plane or possibly a delicate origami crane. These invites could be text via your cell or the phone itself, a surprise playback from a CD or DVD, part of a painting you've not noticed at the museum, the towel of a Hitchhiker or new info on his Guide, or anything at all relating to the invitee's own time and place in the scheme of everything that ever was, will be, is.


Dear Recipient, (so the invite begins)

Consider this your ticket to the only party of its kind ever anywhere and anywhen. We ask you who might enjoy meeting others of all eras to come over and mingle! The time where we live is the spring of 1964 though you needn't fret about possible showers as you shall safely arrive right inside.

If you want to be where it's at, hold this invite in your hand (or just touch it if it's too big) and say out loud, meaningfully now: "Yes please, I want to party where it's groovy! I do want to know a secret!" (If you're shy or reserved, thinking emphatically will get you here too!)

You don't even have to click your heels together. Unless you want to, of course. Nor do you have to salute or take just a jump to the left, put your hands on your hips.

Severus smiled at Lily as he tried to cheer her up by doing his best to dance, make it seem like they were at a ball of some kind. Maybe one day... but he stopped that way of thinking the moment the idea crept into his mind. He would have to enjoy what he had when he had it because the future did not look good for him.

When the song stopped Severus stopped moving, he didn't let go of her yet. "Do you want something to drink?" He was acting so against what, most people saw as his nature that even he noticed it. He was being social, he was dancing, he never was social and dancing was something he had never even considered until Lily mentioned it.

He knew that getting a drink would mean he would have to let go of Lily but maybe that was not such a bad thing, her closeness was having an embarrassing effect on his body. And the urge to just kiss her was still there too. Life was so complicated at times.

"Sure, that'd be lovely," she answered. She pulled away from him reluctantly, but still kept one of her hands in his as they went to the bar together. She looked past the vast selection of alcohol and picked up a cup of cranberry juice for herself, then waited for Severus to get whatever he wanted.

Lily was being unusually silent now as she tried to think of ways to be in a private place with Severus. Perhaps if they walked outside? But her conscience, like always, had to speak up and tell her that she was a young lady and should not try to put herself in compromising situations. Lily shook her head a little at herself - it was not as if she wanted anything bad. Just a kiss from a boy she was madly in love with. Was that too much to ask?

Severus was looking at all the drinks but not really seeing them. He was not sure what to do. He was not good at dating, and this was technically their second date. It wasn't going exactly as he hoped, with Harry being there, but it felt like a date. There was dancing and drinks, that qualified it as a date, didn't it?

He dragged his thoughts back to what he was doing and spotted some pumpkin juice, tonight might not be the best night to get anything stronger then juice, time travel was not something he thought he should do with alcohol in his system.

With a cup of pumpkin juice he turned back to Lily. "Do you want to sit down somewhere?" He still was not sure what he should do but he knew he wanted to spend as much time with Lily as he could.

Lily noticed his drink choice but was happy Severus did not feel the need to drink anything strong to impress her. She had seen some of the Gryffindor boys make fools of themselves with that Firewhiskey stuff that they were not allowed to have anyway. Not that she was against all drinking - but drinking for the purpose of being stupid or trying to impress people? She hated that.

"How about outside? I'm getting a little hot in here," she lied.

"You are?" Severus sounded a little worried, he had not noticed it but he could imagine that with the excitement of meeting Harry and the dancing Lily could be feeling hot. "Of course we can go outside." Of course he would do anything for her.

He looked around for the way outside, they had not entered through a door after all. He offered his arm to lead Lily to what he suspected would be a way outside, maybe a garden or a balcony, how high up were they? He didn't even know.

Lily took his arm and looked a little clueless for a moment as she looked around for a door, any door. The moment she spotted one, she pointed it out and they walked to it together. Lily turned the door handle, hoping it led outside. It did. It opened up to the front of the place -- ahead of them was the street, full of cars parked on it. With the sound of the music coming out of the place, she was sure the nosy neighbors had their binoculars trained on it and them from across the street. That wouldn't do. Lily paused, looking all around her for somewhere they couldn't be seen.

"Nice out, isn't it?" she asked, just to make conversation. It was actually a little cold, but that didn't bother her.

Severus happily followed Lily outside, he would follow her anywhere, she just would have to ask. He knew the way he was feeling was silly, dangerous even because following anybody without thinking was not the brightest idea but he trusted Lily. He pushed away the little voice, which sounded horribly like his despised father, that was telling him trust like that would get him hurt.

"It is." He lied in reply but added quickly, "If you start feeling cold you can have my coat." He was wearing the same he had been wearing on their date, it was actually the only suit and shirt that was nice enough to wear which was not a school uniform. That was why, when he could get away with it, he always wore his school uniform.

He was glad that the house elves were so quick with laundry, he would have felt very awkward if he had to go to a party with his usual non-school clothes. He knew his clothes were mismatched and screamed 'poor boy'. Clothes were just so expensive and his family didn't have much money, his father was of the opinion that to buy new clothes when your old clothes still were in one piece was a waste of money.

Lily smiled and thanked him; even though she was cold, she did not ask for his coat. She didn't want him to be without it, because it really was chilly out here. It had been her idea to come out anyway. She led him a little farther up the sidewalk to a bench and sat, motioning for him to take the spot next to her. At least they wouldn't be the center of attention here, so it was slightly better. Now all she had to do was wait. This plan had to work.

"Do you like the party so far? I think it's a good break from school," she remarked. Hogwarts was beautiful, but one could take its beauty for granted, seeing it every day.

Nervously Severus sat down next to Lily, it was harder to hide how he was feeling, that he wanted to kiss her when they were alone together. There was nobody here to stare at them or to remind them that it was no proper to kiss or that it might not be a good idea. He looked at her, Lily was beautiful in this light. He mentally shook his head, Severus knew that she was beautiful in any light. Yes, definitely a lovestruck fool!

"It is a nice party, I hope you liked the dancing." He never been to a party like this in his life, he usually didn't get invited to parties, so he really didn't have much to compare this party too. He moved trying to sit a little closer without being to obvious about it.

"I did. I think you're really good at dancing," she answered. She had been pleasantly surprised to see the evidence of his practicing. Perhaps he really had been serious about taking her to a ball one of these days. Of course, even if he did not, she would not love him any less.

Lily crossed her legs and in doing so made a subtle move closer to him as well. Her body was slightly turned toward him in an inviting angle. All the better for him to kiss her. Come on, Severus, she tried to communicate telepathically. Come and get me. She had to resist giggling at the thought. She felt so improper, but this was something she wanted badly.

Severus noticed Lily moving closer, how could he not notice? In his mind a battle was raging between his desire to kiss Lily and the knowledge that it was not proper and that it was probably going to end with a broken heart in the near future. His broken heart. He knew Lily would never intentionally hurt him but Severus also knew that Potter would.

"I just know one dance, because you taught me." Severus blushed, not just because of the compliment but also because of how his mind showed him how easy it would be to lean in and kiss Lily.

He knew he had a few options now, act clueless, kiss Lily or talk to her about what he was feeling. For the first it was too late already and the last was going to be so very awkward, after all he wasn't much of a talker. That left kissing Lily, he looked at her lips and without thinking about it he licked his own. He leaned in, for a moment fearing that kissing Lily would be the thing that send her into Potter's arms, then he pressed his lips chastely against Lily's, his very first kiss ever.

As soon as his lips touched hers, she felt an explosion of butterflies in her chest. She couldn't believe this was real as she kissed him back.

Lily realized she had only been thinking about how to go about getting a kiss from him, and not how to handle it. This was a first for her as well; was she doing it right? In movies, kisses were always drawn out and incredibly romantic, the man and woman not breaking the apart for several seconds while dramatic music played in the background. It was difficult to think of this as romantic when she was so unsure of herself.

Being so close to Lily made Severus' body tingle and respond in a way that wasn't really proper. He wasn't sure if it was just the kiss, he was a teenaged boy and Lily was very beautiful.

He put his hand on her's before he shyly broke the kiss, he was blushing. He had liked the closeness but he was not sure about the kiss, it was his first one and he worried that he had made a mess of it. He didn't move away though, part of him hoped that Lily wanted to kiss some more but the biggest part hoped that she wasn't angry with him for being so forward.

Lily smiled shyly at him and leaned forward to kiss him again - this time briefly, but sweetly. She said nothing, wishing dearly that she could read minds. If only she were an accomplished Legilimens and could see his thoughts without even using a wand. That talent would really have come in handy right about now.

She waited, hoping he would say something first... anything...

Lily's kiss brought a small smile to Severus' face, at least she did not get angry at him for kissing her. He squeezed her hand a little afraid that if he let go all this would turn out to be a dream. He didn't want this to be a dream, he wanted this to be real and Harry be a figment of their imagination.

He didn't want to say something stupid, but he also knew saying nothing was not good either. "I hope you didn't mind..." He trailed off, looked at Lily's lips for a moment again with a blush on his face.

"Mind!? It's what I've been wanting you to do the whole night," she admitted, with a small laugh mostly at herself. Now she was being forward. But what did it matter anymore? She still wasn't going to confess that that was the whole reason she had led him out here.

"I'm glad it happened," Lily reassured him, looking into his eyes.

Severus could not look away, he just got lost in Lily's beautiful green eyes. "I am glad it happened too." He said softly, almost afraid that talking too loud would shatter the moment. The party, the kiss, it all seemed so much like a dream, except for meeting Harry everything had been perfect and he didn't want it to end.

"Can I kiss you again?" He knew it was silly to ask now, but he wanted to know.

"I'd like that," she said quietly, leaning forward again. Lily thought it was cute that he had bothered to ask, even though he certainly didn't need to. This party was definitely making its way on to her list of favorite evenings, despite the strange incident with Harry.

Severus tried to push anything and everything related to Harry or anyone at Hogwarts out of his mind. This was all about Lily, he could worry about the rest later, hopefully a lot later.

He leaned in and kissed Lily, a little more sure of himself this time because he knew Lily wanted him to kiss her. He kept one of his hands on Lily's, the other he moved to her upper arm, not really sure what to do with his hands. He wanted to enjoy this but he also wanted to make it perfect for her, he didn't want to do anything that would make Lily uncomfortable.

Lily was just as unsure about what to do with herself. She kissed him back eagerly, knowing it would probably become easier to know what to do with more practice. Watching romantic films was one thing - but romance in real life? That took some getting used to.

She broke the kiss and leaned back, something coming to mind. They hadn't made things official, but she knew what she wanted. Lily ran a hand through her hair and took a deep breath, then asked, "Are we going steady now?" She didn't want to pressure him into anything, but it didn't feel right, snogging him without knowing the answer to that question.

Severus really was not the most romantic person, not too long ago he was sure he would never get to date but here he was on his second date with Lily. The chance that he would ever get to kiss her felt like zero to none, but it just happened tonight not once but twice. And now she asked if they were going steady? He must have died earlier and gone to heaven because in real life something like this did not happen to boys like Severus Snape.

"Yes." He stated simply with a small shy smile. He knew this was not a test and he would not get a grade but he really hoped that 'yes' had been the right answer. This felt more important then any OWL or NEWT he would ever take.

She grinned and wrapped her arms around him in a sudden hug. It made her so happy, it was difficult to contain her excitement. She knew that the Gryffindors (and Slytherins) would have a lot of fun with this news back at school... not that she would make a point of telling them because that would only make them torment Severus even more. But they would figure it out eventually.

Lily tried to shake it off. She was getting ahead of herself. In this moment, she was happy, and that was all that mattered.

Severus returned the hug, his heart skipped a beat. He wished he could sit there with Lily so close for the rest of his life. That he never had to return to Hogwarts, even though the castle had been more like a home then his real home had ever been. Lily's excitement was contagious, he was not prone to show his own excitement but he did smile warmly, it was a happy smile, the kind he never smiled before.
