Elizabeth and Kingsley go to Hogsmeade
Kingsley whistled as he made his way to the gate and pulled his coat a bit tighter. It was cold but he was looking forward to walking around with Elizabeth and finishing his Christmas shopping for his team and his Mum although he didn't know what to get her. It seemed like he never did.

He shoved his hands deeper in his pocket and fingered his wand out of habit.

Elizabeth was nervous, as per usual. It didn't seem like she was ever in any other mood. She pulled her coat around herself tighter when she walked outside the doors of the castle.

She made her way to the gate and saw Kingsley waiting for her. "Hello," she said, hoping it didn't come out squeakily.

Kingsley smiled reassuringly at her, "'Lo"

He inclined his head toward the village. "Did you have anywhere specific in mind?"

She smiled at him. "Er, not really, no," she responded. She shivered.

"Perhaps somewhere warm?"

Kingsley shrugged noticing the shiver.

"Honeydukes is on the way to The Three Broomsticks. I have to stop in there first. The we can grab a drink...if that's okay with you."

It was part of his present for his Mum, she missed Honeydukes Chocolate.

"Sure," Elizabeth said to him, "I'm sure my brothers would love some chocolate for Christmas. And I'd love some hot tea."

She smiled and followed him into the shop, looking at all of the different candies.

Kingsley moved through the aisles picking out some chocolate for his Mum and some of his teammates.

His voice was casual as they browsed, "Do they go to school yet?" He wracked his brain for her last name. Worthington, that was it but he couldn't remember if there were any in younger years, or older for that matter.

Elizabeth looked at the ice mice, a favorite of her brothers. "Er, well, yes," she responded, "Adam's actually already graduated. And Earnest is in his 7th year. They're in Ravenclaw, like me."

She grabbed some acid pops, and a two slabs of Honeyduke's best.
"I think this should be good enough. Who are you getting yours for?"

Ah that explained it and possibly some of her shyness too.

"My teammates," he replied, "and my mum, she'd rather stay out of the wizarding world still, but she always mentions that nothing can compare to Honeydukes."

He studied the selection in his hands and nodded to himself as he moved towards the front of the store.

"Ah," she said, following him to the front. "Do Quidditch boys eat a lot of chocolate? My mum can't stand it. I don't know why. She's a little odd, my mum."

She paid for her goodies and took the bag from the counter. "Where to?"

"Hot tea sounds good," he said leading her towards the Three Broomsticks.

"Besides my Mum left the magical world never to return, apparently it doesn't get any odder than that," his voice got quieter.

At least that was the feeling he got from some people when he was a first year.

"Oh," she answered quietly, walking into the Three Broomsticks away from the cold. "It's a lot nicer in here," she said kind of awkwardly. She walked up to the counter and asked for two hot teas.

He kicked himself for ruining the mood, sometimes he was to brutally honest for his own good.

He searched for a table and found one while she ordered the tea.

When she returned he picked up the conversation again, "I definitely prefer hot summers to cold winters."

She returned with the teas and handed him his."Really?" she said in response to his statement, "I tend to like the spring better. Right in the middle, y'know?"

She took a sip of her tea and sighed contentedly.

He took a sip of tea.

"I suppose you have a point, plus things are starting to grow again and it usually smells like rain..."

He blushed at his blubbering and hurriedly took another sip of tea careful not to scorch his tongue.

Elizabeth smiled at his blush. It was cute, and she knew how he felt. She laughed softly and said,"Yes. I know exactly what you mean. I love the flowers when they just start to bloom. Makes it prettier here, don't you think?"

Without even thinking about what he was doing the words came to Kingsley out of a long lost memory and he began to quote, "Spring, the sweet Spring, is the year's pleasant king;/Then blooms each thing, then maids dance in a ring,/Cold doth not sting,...*."

He stopped suddenly and looked down at his hands. "Sorry..."

Suddenly he didn't have any words.

Elizabeth was amazed. She was pretty sure the look of shock on her face would never go away. She felt very brave all of a sudden and put her hand over his. "Keep going, please," she told him,"I love that poem."

Kingsley chanced a look at her face and was relieved to see that she wasn't laughing. He looked down at the table and continued barely able to keep the grin off his face. He started at the beginning of his aborted line.

"Cold doth not sting, the pretty birds do sing,
Cuckoo, jug-jug, pu-we, to-witta-woo!

The palm and may make country houses gay,
Lambs frisk and play, the shepherds pipe all day,
And we hear aye birds tune this merry lay,
Cuckoo, jug-jug, pu-we, to-witta-woo.

The fields breathe sweet, the daisies kiss our feet,
Young lovers meet, old wives a-sunning sit,
In every street these tunes our ears do greet,
Cuckoo, jug-jug, pu-we, to-witta-woo!
Spring! the sweet Spring!"

He took a deep breath, looked up and smiled. "My father liked to memorize poems and he taught me to at a very young age."

Elizabeth smiled delightedly and clapped. "That was wonderful!" she exclaimed, "I haven't heard that poem in ages."

"Oh, really?" she said,"Do you know any other ones?"

He shrugged and took a sip of his tea, made a face and tapped hit with his wand. "I suppose but they're much more likely to just pop out when someone says something that triggers them. I haven't memorized any in a while. No motivation I guess."

Not since the end of second year when he spent all day on hi return from school locked in his room sulking and missing his father.

"Do you have any other favorites?" If he didn't know it maybe he could look it up and surprise her.

"Oh," she answered, taking a drink of her tea, "My favorite is William Blake's 'The Tyger'. I just think it's lovely." She smiled again.

He did know it; Blake was a favorite of his although not his father.

He smiled and this time looked her in the eye.

"Tiger, tiger, burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

In what distant deeps or skies
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand dare seize the fire?

And what shoulder and what art
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand and what dread feet?

What the hammer? what the chain?
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? What dread grasp
Dare its deadly terrors clasp?

When the stars threw down their spears,
And water'd heaven with their tears,
Did He smile His work to see?
Did He who made the lamb make thee?

Tiger, tiger, burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?"

It was good poem he thought and it suited her.

"I have a couple of books of verse if you'd like to borrow one."

Elizabeth blushed a little and looked down, biting her lip. It was her favorite poem in the world and he knew all of it. Why had she spent so much time alone? Clearly it was much better to have friends and people to talk to.

She cleared her throat when he was finished. "Er, sure," she answered, still a little in awe. "What's your favorite poem?"

He smiled at her but shook his head, "At this rate I'm going to loose my voice then what will my team say?"

He put some money on the table to pay for the drinks and grabbed her hand. "Come on, I still have one last errand to do, then we can wander if you want." His spirit was lighter than it had been in ages.

Fair was fair though.

"I'll tell you before we go back up to the school, promise."

"Okay," she answered. "Where are we going this time?"
