Saturday Morning - Train to London for Easter Break
After being given their notices about using magic over the holidays, the Hogwarts student body boarded the train to go home. It was cloudy and chilly that morning with intermittent drizzle. Despite the fact that breakfast had just been served an hour before, the trolley ladies were already making their way up and down the train, selling snacks to the students as they settled in for the long ride.

It had become an awkward routine whenever Nevin rode the train. His sister would make smalltalk until he found a compartment, then go do her rounds as a prefect. After which, he would sit by himself and keep an eye on his most important specimens. Today, he had a glass jar with some Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary chrysalids. They were not due to emerge for several days, so there wasn't much to do but stare at them. He sighed heavily as he examined the jar, causing the glass to fog up.

Marlene should have known better by now. She had endured how many train rides with her brother and his friends? Five years worth, whatever that amounted to when you did the math. And, still, she found herself feeling surprised when she realized how quickly they could turn a nice, neat compartment into a messy pig pen. Even with her brother off somewhere on a prefect round, the boys had managed to mess the place up in record time. When the first pair of socks hit her head, Marlene volunteered to go on a snack run. Then, she bolted out of the compartment before the boys could give her their money. That could wait for later. Right now, she just needed some fresh air and a chance to brace herself for the rest of the afternoon.

"See you in a bit!" Edwin called over his shoulder as he parted ways with his friends and stepped into the prefects' car. He usually liked sitting with his housemates, but today he was glad to have an excuse to go off on his own and get some rest. Thanks to a bad cough that he'd been fighting for days (ever since the night he decided it would be okay if his team practiced in the rain), Edwin had hardly gotten any sleep the night before. Normally, this wouldn't be a problem, but Edwin couldn't go home looking tired. His mother would have a field day reminding him how to take care of himself. As he sank into a chair near the back of the compartment, Edwin realized he should be happy Sylvia wasn't sick. He really would never hear the end of it if he had managed to get his sister sick as well.

Amber wasn't sure what was worse - staying at Hogwarts for the holidays or being shipped off to her grandmother's house. She had been all set to stay at school for Easter when a letter arrived informing her that she was going to be picked up at the station by a family friend, who would then make sure that she arrived at her grandmother's safely. Amber knew this was her mother's way of ensuring that she did not go off on her own, but she didn't care enough to do anything about it. If life at her grandmother's house became too unbearable, she could always find an inn to stay at. The old woman probably wouldn't even notice if she left.

Shaking her head, Amber stepped into an empty compartment and took a seat. She was glad she had thought ahead and put the latest copy of Witch Weekly at the top of her trunk. This way, she could finish reading the magazine before her grandmother had a chance to steal it and scold her for reading something so frivolous.
